It was a good episode, although when they were showing Apple Jack's dream, it was just a giant apple. They could have used that opportunity to reveal a secret hobbie of of hers. It could be unsuspecting like being ballerina or closer to what she does like maybe making sculptures out of apples.

I'm more curious about what Alicorn Big Mac means for his character.
seems like he has hidden longings deep inside of him to be more that an earth pony. poor guy. we've all wondered how our lives might have gone if we had been born under different circumstances.

The first half of this episode was pretty not-great, but the last half was... oh man, so damn good.
I'm very happy the show finally showed Luna lamenting what she had done. You don't go insane, block out the Sun, and try to kill your sister and not come back carrying some emotional scars. Yet so far the show has shown Luna being totally normal as if it never even happened.
Here we see she tortured herself as a punishment and reminder to never do what she did again. Not only that, but her torture was to relive the moment of her fall and bear witness to the terror she brought.
That's some really fucking good character development in the span of a few minutes. Good job to the writers. Do more of that.
Yeah I didn't like the first part either, and while the overall lesson and Luna's guilt was good, this execution could be done better. Much better.
***** I'm sorry the guilt was stupid I would have been okay with that if this was back in season 2 but I'm sorry too much time has passed to make me feel that this works she's done too much she's had too much character development for the still to be an issue feel like a reasonable issue especially with how functional an unworried she's been outside of this episode and if you add in the comics as well which are supposed to be considered Canon it's even worse.

Nightmare Night only barely touched the subject (and it was more focused on her social interacting abilities) and every presence of Luna since then (that's 2+ years of show time) was her being very calm and sound of mind.
You might want to pay more attention to the show in the future.

Luna probably thought she couldn't share her guilt with others. She probably thought she should be the only one to bear the guilt and maybe acted like everything was fine.

This episode was really good and one of the best of this season
I liked this episode a lot. My favorite part was when Rainbow Dash has a nightmare. She really hates the cute singing flowers.
Actually, about the Discord/Celestia backstory, funny story, the 22nd episode of season 5 will explain Discord's backstory. Though i'm not sure about it, hey, it's still a possibility. Another fun fact is that on March, 12, a friend of mine gave me a list of all upcoming season 5 episodes, and up until now he hasn't mistaken a single episode, the only exception being The Cutie Map that was named Cutie Markless at the time.
I felt bad for Luna in this episode, the thing that she has made herself get nightmares every night about becoming Nightmare Moon again. I mean damn, that is quite the guilt trip of insanity, she probably hated herself ever since she got reformed again, I am surprised that she has not had suicide thoughts because of it.
Just think about it, she had her worst mistake and regret replayed to her over and over again, every single night :o

i really like this episode, it's the most i've laughed at one in a while.
You know what would of made this episode super amazing? If it was the CMC that told Luna to over come her fears and to forgive herself. The fillies she taught to not be afraid and over come their fears in return teach her the same thing she taught them taking in the advice she gave them to her.

This episode was great, and I think the scope of it was because this is a mid-season break, kind of like what is done with The Walking Dead where big reveals are always made in-between season breaks.

This is probably before your time, KP, but many years ago there was a short-lived cartoon called Beetlejuice (loosely based on the 80's movie of the same name); a lot of the visual craziness in this episode reminded me of it.
I love how you captured the moral of the episode so well; you really do have a gift when it comes to this sort of thing. Forgiveness is hard, and self-forgiveness even more so; what troubles us during our waking hours can -- and often will -- follow us into our dreams. Waking up screaming isn't just a saying...it's real. =(

The way I see the Rainbow Connection Powers are the fully realized Elements of Harmony Powers. The powers the gems that used to hold where the seeds from the Tree of Harmony, strong as we saw with how the Main Six and the Sisters could use them in seasons 1 to 3. But when they where lets call it "replanted" after being germinated by ponies who embodied the element they corresponded with for a few years they bloomed in to a new Tree of Magic, AKA: Tree of Friendship, AKA: Twilight's New House. BUT now the main 6 are walking elements having fused with the power of the seeds THEY ARE the next seeds we have seen each of them sew there element all over the world. They have fused with the powers the Seeds held and can call on that power when the need is grate enough.

This episode ... hurt me. Not at first; I loved it the first time I saw it. I was so thrilled by the dreamscape stuff and so shocked by the revelation that Luna was hurting herself to deal with her guilt that I didn't think critically about it at all. But then I watched it again, and I thought 'Wow, we're wasting an awful lot of air time screwing around in individual dreams that don't really advance the plot. And all these dreamscape antics might be fun, but they're really not necessary. I wouldn't mind, but the big emotional scene at the end where she's supposed to be forgiving herself and letting go of a great burden is given barely any time at all. It's like, forty five seconds for the most important part of the episode. That's not that great." Besides, it clashes horribly to have knight-Spike-riding-giant-Derpy silliness put in the same episode alongside a dramatic reveal of Luna's self-harm problem. And then ... then I watched the FOB Equestria episode regarding this, and when he said 'Celestia should have been there.' my head exploded. He was so right, and now I can't stop thinking about it. Celestia was as much a part of Nightmare Moon's appearance as Luna was, and she was the only other pony besides Luna herself who was seriously affected by it. Furthermore, they're family, so of course she should be there to help her sister. If normal ponies can be, Celestia can for sure. This episode loses so much by refusing to include Celestia, and I just don't understand WHY. Is Celestia simply not allowed to have character development, like Vinyl Scratch isn't allowed to talk?

Technically, the tampon monster did get sucked into Luna at the end of the episode so, um, you know, there's that, also, what "pain" did Nightmare Moon bring upon the ponies...if anything she made one protest speech, maybe lightning bolt killed a few useless pegasi guards, then slightly tortured the Mane six with her tampon monster's manipulations only to ultimately change back into Princess Luna with the help of some stone balls and magic (plus, as a side note, you have the best bed-head (and bed-tail, I guess) in history).
The alarm clock does not surprise me. I am a bit stunned it's taken you this long for a Sonic reference. And no mention of RD's dream?

Poor Luna. She still felt bad for herself this whole time. I felt sad when she had to apologize in the first place. Celestia should have been the one apologizing. Banished her sister to the moon for 1000 years. Having to apologize for being jealous. Luna always has to apologize first. It’s not okay.

When Lunar was tapping into the main six's dream with those white things I shouted "NO NO NO, NO NO, NO NO NO NO!!!"
Finally someone who actually takes the lesson of the episode not way too fucking seriously. Jerry Peet has demonized this episode for it's lesson on self pity. Basically he's saying that Luna can't just forgive herself for wanting to torture herself and that she needs therapy and help from others. He even went on to say that this is the reason why people in the world today even hurt themselves in the first place and cause problems within our society. To that I say, Jesus! He's looking WAYYY to deep into that and I think it's a nice little lesson. Let's not forget that this is a kid's show and that the lesson's aren't meant to be taken too seriously. I mean c'mon guys this isn't Breaking Bad or anything. It's basically the lesson from "Equestria Games" just redone a little bit. People didn't complain when Spike (who also showed signs of "mental illness") forgave himself in that episode. But now it's just terrible! Worst episode ever! Obviously you're not gonna use these lessons in a hard situation like "hey I just murdered someone! But it's okay, as long as I forgive myself for it everything gonna be alright". No, these are lessons meant to be taught to little kids. Which quite frankly the only problems they have is playground teasing and missing their Saturday morning cartoons. Honestly this episode isn't gonna do any harm, and I'm glad KP knows that.

I think what Lily Pete ( Jerry is transe now) meant was that Luna created something that could harm everyone in Equestria and it’s treated like it’s something that she can get over and a few minutes, when really depression is solved by solving the source of it, or the problem. I don’t think she was just trying to make a fuss. :)

Kp I loved this video plus I REALLY LOVED the bed head
This episode is actually my favorite overall. Is shows something that I have wanted to do for a very long time. Have a dream I control and remember when I wake up. You normally forget all your dreams when you wake up, and always dream at least once a night. I don't like this episode because of Luna (but I'm sure everyone else does), I like it because it makes an example of things many people haven't done before. Many people haven't had a dream like that. (Then again, people also aren't purple unicorns with dragon book sorter friends and have defeated a draconequis. Draconiqwiss? Drackoniqis? Draconickwiss? A DISCORD. With their colorful cartoon horse friends and weilded Magic. Also probably haven't visited an empire that was banished for a thousand years, and then saved it). Also, why the frack is everything a thousand years. If I had a dollar for every time this show had some excuse that had something to do with "a thousand years", I'd have a few dollars. Maybe five or six. "One thousand years ago, stuff happened. A lot of stuff. But I'm not going to tell you about any of it unless it is relevant to an emergency." -Princess Trollestia. Wow this got off topic. Anyway, favorite episode, 10 colorful cartoon horses out of 10 baby applejacks. More apple fritter.

I think that the mane six will meet twin versions of them self who will become freinds like the main six. I think daring do will be rainbow dash,and moondancer will be twilight. Then the rest will fing their twins and the twins will become freinds like the mane six. And one more thing.daring do was identical to rainbow dash before they met. Almost identical. Then RD help Daring do become 100% like rainbow dash. This is almost the same story as moondancer and twilight. They were identical before they met. Then they had a bad experience with friendship,and didn't want freinds.then they met their before twin of the mane six,and became identical again!!

Also, it was the strangest thing: I swear I noticed a sharp line (indicative of a fang) in Fluttershy's teeth before they all went to sleep. And I didn't know about Flutterbat being in the episode, so I wasn't influenced to think that.
