This was so good and loved the authenticity! I'm trying to make sketching a daily practice and when I have a "bad art day" I literally write "bad art day" on the bottom of that page/spread. And I write what was up, like "bad night's sleep" or whatever because I'm trying to be nicer and more empathetic to myself rather than be critical without cause. And yes, instagram is really bumming me out lately :( Oh wellzzzz.

🥺 all of them are super cute and gooood! As an artist I totally understand the anxiety of high expectations, looking at your artworks and seeing you’re not satisfied with them, I just wanna say “but.. but they are so beautiful 🥺” thanks for making this video~ I enjoyed it so much!

MEGAN i love this video! I'm a fairly new subscriber, but your vibe and attitude toward art is so relatable and puts me at ease. I have those same anxieties with my own work and it is always reassuring when other artists share how they have mental battles sometimes. You remind me how human we all are, how we can just breathe, take chances. We don't have to love everything we create, but can recognize its potential and the joy we had creating it

I .ust thank you for your frankness and honesty about the feelings that can arise. How anxious and stressful the process can be. It's bot easy peasy creating a lot of the time. It's draining mentally physically and emotionally yet we keep doing it!!. Everything you said struck a huge chord with me Nd your video felt such a relief from a lot of other content that doesn't feel as open about the strain if creating. Thank you so so much

Loved this! I haven't drawn regularly for many years.. as I went through my 20s and early 30s I was mostly focused on getting my life in order and getting a job and an apartment etc etc but now that I feel more settled I'm finding I really miss it. It's definitely scary, because I've tried many times before and it hasn't really stuck. Buying sketchbooks, making it a couple pages before setting them aside. Building habits is so hard, at least for me, but seeing you have fun and play is really motivating!

I’ve learned that I don’t enjoy making art for fun either! I make it when I feel the creative flow come in, and that’s when I make the best art. Appreciate this video very much.

From a purist standpoint, colored pencils are meant to be built up in layers - it will make the colors much richer. However, they work REALLY well on colored paper, which gives you a bit of a head start and eliminates that yucky look of the boring white paper showing through. I personally like to use colored pencils to add depth over areas where I've already laid down marker. I think they'd be awesome on top of gouache, as well. Don't give up!

it was so neat to watch ur process thruout the week! thank u for ur honesty hehe. Something I learned from urban sketching that I found really helpful was the practice of drawing on a sketchbook with pen instead of pencil.. It can feel daunting to not be able to undo mistakes but I remember an artist saying that you can also incorporate the lines and shapes you don't like into part of your finished work because the process is just as important as the outcome! :-)

Hey Megan :) i think youre in the LA area: i highly recommend checking out bitter root pottery when you’re ready to get back into ceramics! I learned SO MUCH from their beginner and intermediate classes- things like trimming, underglazes, regular glazes, mugs, large bowls, lidded pieces, etc. The classes are drop in, so it has a pretty casual, no pressure vibe

Drawling every day is so tough some times. I do love the sketching your doing like the messy desk sketch. Iv fallen in love with urban sketching (ink and watercolor) because you can go out and sketch, find a reference or draw your coffee cup and it’s suppose to be a loose drawing. We are not copy machine, we are capturing the The essence so it doesn’t have to be perfect. If I want it perfect I’d take a picture lol thinking this way has helped me a lot. I love your illustration keep ‘em coming 😊

Ooof 😭😭 I also fall into the weird drawing mentality of “this is being made to make X, Y, Z,” and it’s been a while since i just drew….for myself, been working on that, was nice watching you experiment with different media! As much as I love using color pencils, I find that it tires my hand the most, so I like using watercolor first and using the pencils to add more texture / little details, maybe try mixed media? :0

hey !! just want to say i love watching your account and i support youuu - it seemed like you struggled with confidence in your work and your business in this vlog, and i'm sorry you felt that way. i can imagine that it must be high stakes when your whole income is dependent on your creative stuff, and social media marketing - and inspiration can ebb and flow for both of those. sending good vibes your way - you are a serious artist!!! ps. me and my friend love your soup print!!! our wifi is named sad soup central so it was super fitting.

watching this while crocheting on a sunday morning💫 i relate so hard w/ a lot of what you talked about here!!! this year my main new years resolution was to make art for myself esp cos last year i was so focused on doing commissions even tho 70% of the time i was just Winging It... 2 months into the year i can def say its been a fun experience!! i've learned so much abt techniques i like/what i want to see in my own art :D i dont love every single thing i do & these days i find myself posting art just for the sake of letting it go (not for da sake of waiting for my notifs to blow up @___@) i also find it interesting how recently i posted a sketchy rough doodle thing and it got the most reach out of all my posts ever??? it made me realize that it's kinda sad cos the internet really does not care how long or how hard u worked on a piece and internet clout rly can be just smth u get thru luck... i do hope u get thru ur whole algo dilemma!!! im turning on notifs for my fav artists now too hehe
(ps this video gave me even more reason to buy a sketchbook!! the part where u were talking abt how ur way more comfortable with digital than trad.... very much felt)

Hey Megan, I just discovered your Chanel a few weeks back and I just wanted to say that I'm loving your videos. 😊 I really like your personality and I find you super relatable. I feel like I make art just for products too and I find it super hard to break this way of thinking. I never make enough time to explore my art style and I really want to. Yesterday I sat down to start some art but I got so much anxiety around even trying to figure out what to draw that I ended up giving up and going and watching some studio vlogs to calm down. I also just bought a cheap sketchbook to take the pressure away from using my expensive materials which I also find stops me from making art because I'm so scared of wasting my expensive products. In the times that I can manage to do some art I've been mixing coloured pencil with watercolour and ink and I find it gives a bit more depth, I wonder if that could work for some of your coloured pencil pieces too, not sure if your into those mediums though. Anyway, great video, I loved how honest you were about your struggles, super helpful reflections at the end too. 😊

I've always enjoyed ceramics at school! I think I took it like 3 times, it was super fun! I especially liked when your bowl/pot came off the wheel at 9pm at night - only to slap you in the face! LOL! It always made me feel alive (and slightly afraid of flying pottery). I think it took mine at Lone Star College like 10 years ago! But I still have fond memories of that time. I especially loved Slab/Coil methods of ceramics. But I've always loved sculpting in general. It's actually what made me go to Sam Houston State University for Animation. I thought to take my sculpture work digital, but it never went far after Uni. OH WELL! :P

I tried a 30 day Art challenge this year and fizzled out around day 15, I also have anxiety. Lol. It did re-inspire me to draw for fun when I have the inspiration to though. Less job more fun as my husband tell me.

Hi! I'm new to your channel and I wanted to say hello! 🙂
I also don't like to use colored pencils only (anymore), but if you like the texture maybe try to layer them on top of somethign else, e.g. watercolor, gouache or markers. I think this is much more satisfying, because you don't have to deal with those white spots that I kinda hate 😅 Just make sure to use a lighter color for the foundation - the good thing is - the layer of your foundation doesn't need to be clean or pretty, because you're drawing on top of it anyway.
I thought that might be a good middle way. Keep up the good work!

i feel ya, i don't really make art just for fun or for myself ! I'll try to make something for myself ...one day!! hehehehe😁 as for the IG reach drop, it happens to everyone but i think only small biz/creator acct would care about it , other than IG algorithm, the fake/ghost accounts also make your reach low coz they don't interact with you.
