That could have been initial audio. And by the time they moved him could have been 15 or 20 min later. This is all edited, you think tbwy really put out the entire 24/7 life on a crab boat? People sleep, they have to travel many hours sometimes to even get to where they are going, obviously the audio of him telling them not to move him was initial and the clip of them moving him Keith wasn't even down there anymore
@@Lucitin no, its filmed in sequence, he had to lie on the floor for 17 hours while they waited for the lighting to be right for that shot of the whole boat
A crush accident like that should be treated like a suspected spinal injury. A backboard and physical check from head to toe is totally attainable at sea.
1:49 Keith "Crab mode is where, it doesn't matter how tired, how hungry, how wet or how sore you are, you go out there and just do the job, and you do it at a good clip the whole time" 4:48 also Keith "I'm not gonna put anybody or pressure anybody to work on this boat. They want them to destroy they're bodies but once they end up disabled they forget about them no money to help them out that's it is it really worth it
This is exactly how Todd died on the F/V Patricia Lee. I'm a hydraulic technician and hydraulics and steel, have absolutely no mercy. Hes lucky his story didnt end like Todd's did.
Yeah it’s bit of a design flaw isn’t really they should widen the gap a few inches and adapt the tipping hydraulics or at least fit a resistance safety reverse cut off sensor into the tables.
I've been a crabber for 6 years. When it get's tough is my favorite. Makes me feel like a Viking out there. I almost feel high doing it honestly. It's a adrenaline rush for sure. Plus it's amazing when the whole crew stays positive as a team.
Honestly it looks kind of fun if you had a good crew with good comradery. It’s one of those things where you embrace the suck with your teammates and test your metal. Plus the money would be a big motivator haha
So I don't know how soon after that was when he said to watch each others backs but then LITERALLY right after saying it a dude hurts his back. That had to be like a 1 in a million moment. Lol...like the sea's were mocking him for saying that. Hope the dude was alright afterwards that was scary as hell.
If people keep getting injured and are fighting on your boat it isn’t just another crab season it’s a total failure on your behalf as the captain you are not fulfilling your duty in keeping your crew safe and filled with morale Basically your no jack sparrow bud

What???? No this is one of the better crews of the entire fleet! Crab fishing in the Bering sea is one of deadliest jobs for a reason! Crewmen are going to get hurt literally on just about every crab boat in the Bering sea…
They handled this situation literally the worst way possible, and it’s kinda scary, with how dangerous this work is and how often stuff like this happens and with the fact that they are too far away from land to get any help in a quick enough manner you’d think they’d train these guys in basic first aid, if they knew basic first aid they would not have a moved him even an inch after having his back crushed like that is the NUMBER ONE rule of back injuries, they even had him stand up and walk in that is ridiculous if he would’ve had a serious back injury you could’ve paralyzed him moving him that way, definitely should have brought a stretcher out and a back board, and if they don’t have those kinds of things on the boat then they need to change that fast, you need to have basic first aid things on the boat being that far away from civilization, it amazes me how unprepared these guys always are for these sorts of situations
Again, here is Captain idiot Kieth. Hasn’t been on deck in years, but has the audacity to say that they’re weak because they don’t go from string of string to string without complaining. we also get to see Dr. Keith in this episode. It’s all the years of watching this. It just made me irritated by watching this King Captain Kieth. How about giving them a four hour break? Oh never mind you push them to somebody breaks their back.
Those tables are heavy, so are the pots. Could easily shove a vertebrate out....so, it's very possible he was hurt. & Laying down right away is the difference between being out one day or 2 weeks later. Working through pain is fine to an extent....but you have to be really good to yourself once you're off
i love how he says not to move him but they immediately disobey him

Yes that's what should happen to treat an injury like this was taught this in emergency medical class and taught in boy scouts
The most intense real life TV drama ever produced, Kudos to all crew and Captains taking on this kind of stress....
I cannot believe the guys just picked him up BEFORE assessing him. Not cool
Standard reaction to any obvious life threatening injury on a crab boat - ‘are you ok?’ 😂
I feel like that could be a call/response fix. 'Table clear?' 'Table clear!' Then operate the table.
My friend was crushed to death by the hydraulics at a car wash. Hydraulics are dangerous. Operator beware and make sure all are clear before engaging.
Would that be in escondido ?
tall order on 30 hour shifts with little or no sleep or rest in sub zero cold.
Yeah idk why they dont give an all clear check before moving that table in - seems like a nobrainer

Nature of the business, man.

Being tired and sore is entirely different from being seriously injured or ill.

It honestly didn't even look that bad. Not saying it wasn't, but from far away it really didn't look like he was crushed...

Crabs: who put the human in here
Who was operating the lift?
Wanna check his back …. Stand him up :)
There have been people in car wrecks who feel fine but as soon as they get up something shifts severing their spinal cord... instant death.
Why did they stand him up?! They should have him on a backboard..
Keith is so full if it. He’s just saying what he’s saying because the cameras are around.
