@@hangingwithpawpaw scones are similar I suppose but not the same. During the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays a local bakery makes Cranberry Orange scones and sprinkles them with finishing sugar. During the Hatch Chile season the same bakery makes Hatch Chile and Cheddar Cheese scones. Both are excellent!

My Mom was an artist at making biscuits. She had her flour bowl that she always used. She would add more self rising flour, then crisco the solid kind, and butter milk, regular milk if she didn’t have the butter milk. She would mix by hand, pitch off some dough with her hands, kneed it into a perfect circle. The only utensil she used was a fork she would dip into the fat back grease, which she cooking, and put the grease on top of the biscuits. I wish all the time I stayed in the kitchen and learned everything about her cooking. She could have biscuits and gravy cooked in it seemed like 10 minutes. We always had biscuits or cornbread with every meal, and the fat back. I was healthy back then and now they are finding all kinds of things they say is wrong. I want the good old days!!!

Those biscuits brought back memories. My grandmother used a similar recipe, but she never measured anything. She also made what she called "drop biscuits" not rolled but just a ball of the dough dropped on the baking sheet. She had the old "can" cutter also, I think it was an evaporated milk can.
Looks like a good recipe for quick and easy biscuits. My Mama never measured anything either. She always used self rising flour and lard to make her biscuits. That's the way I always made mine. I use my great grandmas cast iron skillet that's well over 100 years old..my grandmother just diet at just a month from being 103 and it was her mom's...to make fudge .....I wouldn't know how to make it any other way....I like my fudge creamy not a rock of fudge....
Good morning! I will have to give your recipe a try. I usually put a stick of butter in the freezer for about 10 mins and then cut that into my dry ingredients in place of the oil, but your recipe is probably a little quicker when I'm in a pinch for time. I’ve never made homemade biscuits. I tried making my own pie dough once and it was awful! I used to love to bake but don’t do any of that anymore. Your recipe looks really easy. Someone suggested you join Jake some Thursday night. I think that’s a great idea. The little cups you measure with are for dry measure ingredients like sugar and flour. You need a measuring cup for liquid things like oil and milk. It really does make a difference. I’m 74 and learned this from our home ec. Teacher.
Pawpaw, your secret is good with me! Your biscuts look so good and never thought about putting bacon grease on top. I am so country and you eat the way I was raised . I married a city slicker who wants to eat just healthy stuff. I told hubby today that my grandma use to boil chicken feet for her chicken and noodles and then the leftovers we would put them on our plates. Maybe that might be too country for you . My husband thought it was disgusting but, they were good. My dad use to fry up some chicken gizzards and French fries. That was a tasty supper!

Can't get better then home made food. Years ago we use to have Sunday dinners homemade fried chicken mashed potatoes gravey biscuits the works all in cast iron. The older generation is gone the new one doesnt cook homemade!! I tried for years to continue the tradition they all just were to busy to always come. We don't live close like you guys do. Ya know, PawPaw, that sounds aweful good for supper tonight with Michigan chili. My experience from living in both Texas and Michigan, each has their own recipe for chili. Michigan adds ground beef or turkey and Texas adds beans…I do both. Sometimes I add canned vegetables too. So, I might add a can of Rotel, 3 cans of various beans, can of Mexican corn and a handful of grated cheese, and have a few of those biscuits and butter. Thank you for the suggestion.🙋🏼♀️💕🙏🏻
Ever since I was little...long ago...I was taught to cook, and I've never been taught to cook by measurements! Lol, even when I follow a written recipe, I usually add a little of this and that.. I was taught to eyeball it, like southerners do! Lol. I have saw measuring spoons with a pinch, a smitten, etc. They look yummy! All you need is some of my homemade strawberry or blackberry jelly. I've been laid up after foot surgery going on 3 weeks, my kids are in Army as I've told you, and I need you to share your cooking and cleaning abilities with my husband😂😆 Gigi is looking so proud of herself with her walking! I saw Bris video of her walking, and I just started crying..the Lord is good!...I'm so happy for her, although I don't know y'all personally, I feel like ur my family! Ring that dinner bell, and I'll bring some sweet tea and jelly! Bless you both! Kiss the babies for me! 💕💞. I'll keep ur secret! I'm thinking you need to do some biscuits on a fire in a cast iron dutch oven, and show use some cooking out there in ur cast iron! ...shhhh! Love your biscuit making. Your did good. But...(you knew there had to be a BUT)..use frozen butter or lard for your biscuits. Much better flavor and fluffier, lighter biscuits. I cant blame the lady for getting on to you about the Cast Iron square pan..you rarely see them...they are a true treasure if you have one. I've never used cooking oil, we always use shortening or if we are really feeling our oats half butter and half lard! :) One of our favorite ways to eat them is the next morning to bust them open and butter them and toast them. Toasted biscuits with cantaloupe is the best breakfast ever!. Love all your videos, I'm so glad that Gigi is getting stronger! Take care!

Pawpaw has sneaky down good, thinks of everything. You remind me of my younger sister who used to say she didn't want to go to town when her 4 brothers and two sisters and parents did. Our dad would give each kid 25 cents. You could buy a lot of candy with a quarter back then. Home alone, my sister would start baking, brownies, cookies, all kinds of yummy things. She would clean up everything and hide her baking in her drawers and various places and NEVER share with her siblings. We always shared our candy with her.
If you don't have a cutter, the rim of a glass works well. You can also simply cut them with a knife in squares, rectangles, triangles, etc. Eliminates waste and you only have to pat the dough out once! A glass can also work as a "rolling pin"

Oh boy! Haven't seen homemade biscuits made in a long time. This is neat. I'm allergic to regular flour so don't bother to make any. But memories of camping out seeing someone else make these biscuits good feelings. My daughter loves to cook with the 2 cast iron skillets we have. Her Grandpa showed her how to care for the skillets oil them after cleaning then heat them up to set the oil, ready to go for the next meal. Thanks for sharing

Those biscuits brought back memories. My grandmother used a similar recipe, but she never measured anything. She also made what she called "drop biscuits" not rolled but just a ball of the dough dropped on the baking sheet. She had the old "can" cutter also, I think it was an evaporated milk can.

Looks like a good recipe for quick and easy biscuits. My Mama never measured anything either. She always used self rising flour and lard to make her biscuits. That's the way I always made mine. I use my great grandmas cast iron skillet that's well over 100 years old..my grandmother just diet at just a month from being 103 and it was her mom's...to make fudge .....I wouldn't know how to make it any other way....I like my fudge creamy not a rock of fudge....
Good morning! I will have to give your recipe a try. I usually put a stick of butter in the freezer for about 10 mins and then cut that into my dry ingredients in place of the oil, but your recipe is probably a little quicker when I'm in a pinch for time. I’ve never made homemade biscuits. I tried making my own pie dough once and it was awful! I used to love to bake but don’t do any of that anymore.
Your recipe looks really easy. I love apple butter too. It takes me back to my childhood any time I have it. And who doesn’t love bacon!!! I never saw a piece of bacon I didn’t want!!!

Someone suggested you join Jake some Thursday night. I think that’s a great idea. The little cups you measure with are for dry measure ingredients like sugar and flour. You need a measuring cup for liquid things like oil and milk. It really does make a difference. I’m 74 and learned this from our home ec. Teacher.
Pawpaw, your secret is good with me! Your biscuts look so good and never thought about putting bacon grease on top. I am so country and you eat the way I was raised . I married a city slicker who wants to eat just healthy stuff. I told hubby today that my grandma use to boil chicken feet for her chicken and noodles and then the leftovers we would put them on our plates. Maybe that might be too country for you . My husband thought it was disgusting but, they were good. My dad use to fry up some chicken gizzards and French fries. That was a tasty supper!

Can't get better then home made food. Years ago we use to have Sunday dinners homemade fried chicken mashed potatoes gravey biscuits the works all in cast iron. The older generation is gone the new one doesnt cook homemade!! I tried for years to continue the tradition they all just were to busy to always come. We don't live close like you guys do. Love watching it brings back memories. Always watching

Ya know, PawPaw, that sounds aweful good for supper tonight with Michigan chili. My experience from living in both Texas and Michigan, each has their own recipe for chili. Michigan adds ground beef or turkey and Texas adds beans…I do both. Sometimes I add canned vegetables too. So, I might add a can of Rotel, 3 cans of various beans, can of Mexican corn and a handful of grated cheese, and have a few of those biscuits and butter. Thank you for the suggestion.🙋🏼♀️💕🙏🏻

Ever since I was little...long ago...I was taught to cook, and I've never been taught to cook by measurements! Lol, even when I follow a written recipe, I usually add a little of this and that.. I was taught to eyeball it, like southerners do! Lol. I have saw measuring spoons with a pinch, a smitten, etc. They look yummy! All you need is some of my homemade strawberry or blackberry jelly. I've been laid up after foot surgery going on 3 weeks, my kids are in Army as I've told you, and I need you to share your cooking and cleaning abilities with my husband😂😆 Gigi is looking so proud of herself with her walking! I saw Bris video of her walking, and I just started crying..the Lord is good!...I'm so happy for her, although I don't know y'all personally, I feel like ur my family! Ring that dinner bell, and I'll bring some sweet tea and jelly! Bless you both! Kiss the babies for me! 💕💞. I'll keep ur secret!

They look good Pawpaw.my mums used to do fried scones when I grew up and had children I started making them and my friends thought I was crazy frying them.city kids always learnt to bake them.we often had them from a camp fire I spose that's why they were fried.we loved them and I still do😍😍😍

Love your biscuit making. Your did good. But...(you knew there had to be a BUT)..use frozen butter or lard for your biscuits. Much better flavor and fluffier, lighter biscuits. I cant blame the lady for getting on to you about the Cast Iron square pan..you rarely see them...they are a true treasure if you have one. I've never used cooking oil, we always use shortening or if we are really feeling our oats half butter and half lard! :) One of our favorite ways to eat them is the next morning to bust them open and butter them and toast them. Toasted biscuits with cantaloupe is the best breakfast ever!. Love all your videos, I'm so glad that Gigi is getting stronger! Take care!

Pawpaw has sneaky down good, thinks of everything. You remind me of my younger sister who used to say she didn't want to go to town when her 4 brothers and two sisters and parents did. Our dad would give each kid 25 cents. You could buy a lot of candy with a quarter back then. Home alone, my sister would start baking, brownies, cookies, all kinds of yummy things. She would clean up everything and hide her baking in her drawers and various places and NEVER share with her siblings. We always shared our candy with her.

If you don't have a cutter, the rim of a glass works well. You can also simply cut them with a knife in squares, rectangles, triangles, etc. Eliminates waste and you only have to pat the dough out once! A glass can also work as a "rolling pin"

Oh boy! Haven't seen homemade biscuits made in a long time. This is neat. I'm allergic to regular flour so don't bother to make any. But memories of camping out seeing someone else make these biscuits good feelings. My daughter loves to cook with the 2 cast iron skillets we have. Her Grandpa showed her how to care for the skillets oil them after cleaning then heat them up to set the oil, ready to go for the next meal. Thanks for sharing
