    The Monarch Crest Trail System is a serviceable ride area between Gunnison and Salida Colorado for anyone looking to beat the heat with epic alpine downhills. In essence, there are so much options to ride in this area, however, Eric Scott wanted to ride the Big One, the IMBA Epic. I’m sure there are many legitimate names for sections of the Monarch Crest, but because I lived in Salida prior to my mountain biking career, I have no idea what these sections are called by locals. That said there can be incorrect information, something I try desperately to avoid.
    Any time you see the title IMBA Epic, you can easily come to a conclusion that it’s going to be a big ride and a big ride it was. An epic day that was a “dog fight” ride from the beginning to the end. The forecast laid out the groundwork for flawless 75 degrees Fahrenheit and sunny day. Yet, that could be further from the truth as rare morning thunderstorms began punching through the troposphere very early in the morning. Had the forecast A) called for thunderstorms B) not called for drier air in the early afternoon, we likely would not have ridden the trail.
    Being RUclipsrs, we took a great many breaks for drones and batteries and our overall ride time was well above average. I’d say average riders need 6 hours to complete with good preparedness.
    To make this ride happen, you’ll likely need a shuttle. Self shuttling to the pass is a viable option, but more than likely you’ll need services from Poncha Springs. High Valley Shuttle is what we used for $35. www.monarchcre...

    Now I have serious FOMO about Rainbow trail. Next trip back I'm going to conquer it and then hit up some Cottonwood. That half hour flew by. I can't believe I accidentally the whole thing!

      Next time, Taggalong said we have to ride 1) Fooses 2) Green Cabin, so much good stuff in the trail system and we haven't even scratched the surface

    Sitting here back in Kansas City just after getting back from two weeks out in Colorado, Montana, Idaho & Wyoming. The hurricane in the gulf has it raining non-stop here so no riding for me for quite a while. This is the perfect video to help me get my riding fix and transition back to Midwestern riding. 🤘🤘

    "Whoa! Anit-gimbal stuff!"
    I love it! I think of puddles completely differently these days. Now when I see one of my buddies lining up to manual thru a puddle I have to either make sure I'm right on their tire or drop way back. 🤘

    Trail does look good but is this a different route than what BKXC and STS did on their Monarch Crest ride?

    • @OutdoorGold
      @OutdoorGold  6 лет назад

      Brian Vaughn they took Fooses if I can remember correctly, it’s a short 12 miles trip. This is the REAL THANG! Monarch crest is more or less a trail system of shuttle rides, but silver creek is the big one!

    Hey dude around how long was this Epic ride? 6h? More? There is any point to refill water? Thx

    • @OutdoorGold
      @OutdoorGold  6 лет назад +1

      Gabriel Marias I think if you just went for it and didn’t have many breaks, I’d take 5 hours. We took forever with the batteries and the drones, 8 hours. There is no water except for silver creek where you can filter some. Thanks Gabriel!
