- "Israel, of course, feels existentially threatened. Iran have just used military force against them. So there is a danger that they will respond."
Israel will be considering how to retaliate against Iran, including the option of attacking their nuclear programme, while also trying to prevent further escalation, Maj. Gen. Rupert Jones tells #timesradio

I find it ironic for the Iranians to be crying foul over their consulate being attacked. Apparently they have very short memories!!! Does 1979 ring a bell for them? They can’t have it both ways. Zero sympathy here!
You brought something up that happened 40 years ago to justify a war crime that happened last week. Somehow you’re always the victim.
Dunce people say Dunce things
@@TheMaddBlackMann of course they do, because the crimes of israel cannot be excused
What happened in 1979 .?
The parallels are severely lacking. Iran attacking US military base, isn’t at all the same as attacking Israeli main land with a largest missile attack in the middle east history. The analogy seriously underestimates the importance of such an attack.
I wonder whether the abode of the Supreme Leader features upon the roster of considerations for IDF.
you know 5 missiles got through 'the best missile defence in the whole world' ? Wonder where Bibi is sleeping?
@@sidenbigh8832 Got through because they were not targeted intentionally since their trajectory was in the direction of open fields.
In a couple of instances debris from shot down missiles fell down and hit something with minor damage.

Conducting battlefield command and control activities from a consulate against a neighbouring country is similarly unwise.

Few people realize it, but Israel's attack against Iran's Consulate building in Damascus, Syria, twelve days ago was because of intelligence that a high ranking Republican Guard officer who had helped orchestrate the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack against Israel was in that building. He was killed in that attack. Iran felt it was in their national honor to respond. Now that they have fired a barrage of ballistic missiles and drones into Israel, who knows where all this will lead. Israel should not lose sight of its principal strategic aims, namely, to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.
No1 cares about feelings especially isrealis excuse to attack soveriegn soil this is isteal wanting what theyve been after for decades.
An excuse.
Why does Israel get to decide who can have nukes or not? What if Iran doesn't want Israel to have nukes? Iran is a sovereign state, and if it wants nukes, it's none of Israel's business.
Given the constant threats and sabre rattling from Israel and the US, how can anyone blame Iran for wanting the ultimate deterrence?
If they didn't want Iran to have a nuke, they should not have betrayed the Iran deal, because that would have ensured they wouldn't.
Why is it that nukes are said to have keep the peace in Europe through MAD is such a bad idea if Iran han nuclear weapons.Maybe a balance of power would cause Israel to seek peace instead of war!
But Israel can't find their hostages in Gaza? You people are jokers
and why should I believe Israel?

Geopolitics is an incredibly complex subject.
It seems like there is a new sheriff in the Middle East ( Iran )

General Rupert Jones painted the Iranians as the only adult in the room.
No, he was painting them as calculating, rational actors.
@sophrapsune But this implies, the other actor, Israel in this case, is not calculating and irrational.
Don't forget Iranian regime is angry about anything that is against them.
Am I going to be killed? I am frightened.
Thank you for a very professional analysis much better than some of the other waffle on the channel over the last couple of days.
it was not a consulate--- it was an annex structure near the official iranian consulate. technically, not the Iranian domain.

There is nothing extreme about Israel attacking Irans Nuclear program. What is extreme would be for Israel not to attack Iran’s Nuclear program and just hope that the psychopathic Ayatollah will not get nuclear weapons. Now that’s extreme!

With what? and they did not defeat Iran's attack. Two airbases were hit.
Including Iran's dogs in other countries, over 500 missiles and drones were sent from all directions. For the size of Israel and the toughness to take down ballistic missiles, 99% success rate is actually quite good. Unless you have hundreds of anyi-ballistics along every square mile of your border, you realistically would expect a lower success rate than Israel. When Israel retaliates, you will see what failure in a defense system looks like

It is extreme to target iranian nuclear facilities?
Iran is not an "Arab" country, it's a people and culture that have been snuffed out by Islam by Jihad against the Persians. The conflicts of the Middle East are Islamic, it's not the Jews it about Jihad against the West the Infidels, me you, democracy, human rights, etc.
They are going for the nuke sights definatly the hard water sight maybe even the reactor but that could cause a Chernoble type incident very dangerous times these people don't bluff they mean it
It's nothing new, whether or not it's extreme. Israel has already bombed Iranian nuclear facilities in the past, and there was the clever "Stuxnet" virus, which probably gave the Iranian Nuclear Engineers quite a fright. That was twenty years ago. What's possible now?
Your guest needs to get his facts a little straighter, he’s making mistakes he doesn’t know he’s making.
While the targets might be legitimate, striking targets in an embassy is NOT legitimate.
Not an embassy - an annex whose purpose was for military strategising. The victims obviously didn't think that they would be found out. In this game there are spies everywhere. They should have kept their strategising in their own country instead of using someone elses. Silly them!
