  • Shows AA Wireless starting up, launching Android Auto - and then auto-starting the AA app to appear on the screen of the car head unit. Before, you had to take the manual step yourself to start Android Auto in the car. New feature enabled via the updated companion app.

    Can't wait to receive my AA Wireless in January. I've ordered in November. I have the 2021 Toyota Camry and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, so I guess it will work like in the video.

    Thanks for the informative video.
    By any chance does the device get the phone's wifi and bluetooth to turn on automatically? Say if sometimes one or the other is turned off, I wouldn't want to sit and realize it 30 seconds into my drive.

      Yes, the AAW device will make a Bluetooth and wifi connection as required. Meaning, you need to enable Bluetooth (and pair the device and your phone, usually a one-time job) and wifi so AAW can make a connection and disconnection as it needs to. If neither is enabled on your phone, then AAW wont connect. See the FAQ and troubleshooting tips in the Knowledge Base cpeb.freshdesk.com/support/solutions

      This is where Bixby Routines really shines. You can set automation so that when phone connects to a certain device wifi and GPS are enabled. I usually have wifi on only when at home and GPS off. Saves a lot of battery life. Bluetooth needs to be on all the time but not that much of a battery drain.

      I am on a June perk for delivery but likely not to see the AA WIFI device until August 😔production is slow.

    Did you need to use some of the samsung workarounds on the helpdesk site? Like the biyby Routine workaround or others? Or just default settings?

    • @NevilleHobson
      @NevilleHobson  3 года назад +1

      No, just powered up the car and the phone connected as usual then auto-started AA. I have Bixby disabled on my phone, never use it.

    Hi Neville. Thanks for posting the video. I've just received my AAWireless unit and have installed it in my Lexus NX. It's seems to be working fine but I have to first manually turn on Bluetooth on my phone every time, otherwise it doesn't connect (it keeps cycling round on green and flashing green LED). Excuse my ignorance but is it right that I need to have Bluetooth running prior to getting in the car every time? Seems to detract from the perceived plug and play benefits a little.

      Hello Andrew. You shouldn't have to do that as AAW turns on your phone's Bluetooth connectivity when it needs to. You don't say what your phone model is but it sounds like a configuration issue. I suggest you try the troubleshooting of network connections as I described in my AAW review that involves resetting all network connections, Bluetooth and wifi. Details here: bit.ly/aawreview

      Hi Neville. Thanks for your reply. My phone is a Samsung S10+. I'll do what you suggest regarding deleting the network connections and see if that helps. Thanks again.

    Great Video!
    I also have a S20+ phone, but having a lot of issues to get it connected. I keep getting the blinking blue light and maybe 1 out of 30 times works as expected. Do you have any special settings for the Bluetooth, passtrough or wifi options?

      Thanks Oscar. Much depends on your car and its head unit. Take a look on the AAW website at the growing long list of cars supported by AAW. There are so many variables! I described what I did with Bluetooth and wifi settings on my S20 and my car in the review I posted on my blog (link in description, above), hope that helps.
      Also, check in the companion app for a firmware update as a new one was released last week. That might help.

    Does your car have wireless phone charging?
    If not, how much of a battery drain is AA on your phone after driving a few hours?

    • @NevilleHobson
      @NevilleHobson  3 года назад +1

      Someone asked a similar question in one of my other AAW videos. Here's what I said: As for battery drain on the phone, I tend to do local journeys mostly these days, less than an hour each time, so not noticing much battery use. If I take a long journey, two hours or more, I actually use the cable to connect the phone directly to the car, and not use the dongle, so that the phone charges. If my car had wireless phone charging (not an option in the UK), this wouldn't be an issue at all.

    My car doesn't have android auto or carplay the screen is just for the radio and settings etc. Would one of these dongle's mirror the android auto from my phone to the car screen so I can use the sat nav from my phone?

    • @NevilleHobson
      @NevilleHobson  3 года назад

      No it won't I'm afraid. You need to have Android Auto installed on your smartphone. And AA Wireless works only with Android Auto not with Carplay.
