Thank you so much! I received this code on my 2017 Buick encore, and I decided to RUclips it after reading about how easy it was to replace. I went and purchased the part & set this video up and followed along. I got the code reset and my car is riding smooth again! Thank you sooooo much for this!! Ladies, I promise it’s easy!
FINALLY!!! A youtuber that actually gets into details and speak my language, as opposed to only technical terms!!! Thank you. I only needed to find out how to remove the green clip, and the hundreds of videos that I watched never showed that important step of the process.
I actually had the same issue on that same clip - I couldn’t find anything on removing it. After I figured it out, I made this video for everyone else. I’m glad this helped out someone else. Thanks
Thanks! Saved me a ton of money- the shop wanted to "Smoke test" it for $200 before they'd touch it. $18 for the part on Amazon, and I'm back in business.
Thank you so much for uploading this video. Our engine light came on and this part was what we needed, however the guy at the counter also sold us a tool for 26 bucks that he said we needed and also told us we needed to drop the fuel tank to install. In the process of searching for tank removal videos we saw yours, showing our part exactly and where it goes. Perfect video and explanation on how to install. Again thank you and God Bless
Great video. My wife’s 2016 encore threw this code over the past month many times. My OBD would clear it, but ultimately it came back. I paid $20 on Amazon for the part and it took me 4 minutes to replace.
Thank you!! I had this problem on my moms 2018 encore and none of the connections would budge and I felt like I may break something until I watched your video and was able to get it swapped in less than 5 minutes. My scanner wouldn’t reset the CEL for some reason but I disconnected the battery to clear the codes and it seems to be fine now
Thank you so much for posting. There's special coverage issued for this part but my dealer wouldn't fix it without charging diagnostic fees. This was super easy and fixed the big problems. Will the vehicle run rough after completing this fix? Is there anything you recommend doing if the car's been operating with this problem for awhile? Additives, filter replacement, etc
you're welcome. Glad it helped. Besides the normal fluid & filter changes (When Due), there is really nothing else to do. It should run smooth. The other common thing that wears out is the PCV valve. When that goes out, it will shake, sputter, squeak & idle very rough. I have another video on that. Hope this helps.
Thank u for this video. This is my first car repair I’ve done and the steps were simple albeit I have no pinch strength and needed pliers lolz. Thanks again!
I appreciate the way you show exactly how to remove the connectors and take clear unobstructed video. . There’s got to be at least 3 or 4 different types and ways to disconnect these harnesses just on the various parts that are visible in your video. Other than the code what would a non functioning purge valve do to let you know it’s buggered up? $18-$20 bucks on Amazon and probably $60+ at GM. Nice coil pack, does it help prevent the corrosion on cylinder 4’s spark plug and the coil boot’s spring? Water or “ mist “ sneaks under the coil pack on that side of the engine enters the hole that the spark plug sits in and it’s probably boiled up by engine heat so the steam gets under the rubber boot and corrodes the spring that sends a spark to the plug.
Glad it was helpful. Honestly it didn’t show or have any symptoms. It ran perfectly fine. That’s the ZZP coil pack. That’s the exact reason why I replaced the OEM one. It started having a misfire and found it to be corroded exactly how you described it.
Totally cool video ✨👌do you know the dealer wanted to keep my car for two days to fix something like that …. Wow 🤩 that is totally awesome you made this video really appreciate it
I was unable to get that rightmost connector to come off. I squeezed the heck out of it; tried a pliers (with a wedge tool to assist) and no joy. So, I’m bringing it in to the shop tomorrow morning. At least I have the proper replacement part!
@@sheriswim9300 , another author of a similar video suggested pushing down while squeezing, which never occurred to me, but it was too late in my case as I had already brought the car in to have it serviced.
I'm wondering if you happen to know the name of the line that you removed at the first of the video? The one with the clip. I can't find out what it is and can't find a clip that fits since the one that was in it is broken. Please help.
I was wondering if you have any suggestions for someone who is struggling to take the old part off? I'm doing exactly what you're describing and hitting all the right tabs but the old piece won't come off at all. I've also had some friends try this to no avail.
It takes a few “on” “off” cycles to clear on it’s own. If you have access to a scanner tool, that can clear it. If not, disconnecting the battery for a few minutes might work. Hope this helps
Would this be the same for a 2016 Encore and do I need a particular replacement brand? Dealer wants 500.00 to repair, I'm going to give this a try. thank you!
So I topped my gas off and mine shut off the next day and shut off but wouldnt turn over so what I'm wondering is do you think it may need this or would the ignition or starter relay be what it may be? I've been having quite a few issues and that's that I take care of everything when it needs it ? Need some man advice lol thank you
I don’t think it would be this. If this was the problem, it will still turn on but it will have a shakey idle. If you have no crank, I would first start with the battery. If it’s not the battery, I would then move on to check fuses and or relays. Does your engine crank but not start? Or does it not crank at all?
Check to make sure everything is sitting properly and all connections are good. If all is good, it may be a defective part OR it may be something else. Hope this helps
@@imataylor8538 Chances are, it may be the coil pack or spark plugs. The coil pack in the video is the rectangular block with "ZZP" inscribed on the top. The original OEM pack was corroded at one of the terminals that connects to the spark plugs.

It might be the vapor canister purge solenoid valve hose

Which part of it won’t come of?
It's really fun when you break that stupid green clip when taking off the old one.
I broke mine too! Did you get a replacement for your? I may just use a zip tie....
I almost did.
But I went back to watch the video again. And it slipped right off.
Great video. Given code P0496 how did you determine it was this component and not a different one?
The P0496 code indicated an EVAP Flow During a Non-Purge Condition. This purge solenoid controls that. After it was replaced, the CEL light went away.
Thank you very much!
Thanks so much
Did that. Check engine still on car still riding the same with same code
It usually takes a few cycles of usage for it to clear on its own. You can also try to clear it with a diagnostic tool. Hope this helps.
