    Totally agree on the 735A, I've been using the coffee bust 4 string version, the 734a. It really has everything I want in a bass, same pickups as the pro model, active passive with passive tone control, agree on the blend control, low battery indicator on the back......etc what a bass and for the money is a total bargain.

    I own a 1982 model BB2000. It's by far the best non-precision style bass I've ever played in terms of both construction AND overall tone. Much better than my Sadowsky Metro Jazz { which I've since sold }, vintage { '78 } or modern USA { 2012 Am std } Fender Jazz bases, and 2005 Musicman stingray. The sound is phenomenal. It sits in the mix like nothing else. A beast of a bass.

      @@TylerSpicer Indeed you can't really go wrong with yamaha basses. I play 5-string basses exclusively. so most likely I was thinking of getting a yamaha trbx605fm. either in transparent black or dark red burst. my other choice would most likely would be either a yamaha trbx305 in a factory blue finish or a yamaha bb435. either in black or teal blue. if yamaha does make a 6-string trbx, I would like to check it out.

    I'm a multi-instrumentalist and I've been looking to make my first investment into a bass. Been looking into getting a BB234/5 or the next level of the line after a good bit of research. Yamaha just has superior consistency in quality.

      Amazing news! Glad I could help, I think it might be the best bang for buck at that level full stop! Hey man cool vid. I’m a huge Yamaha fan. Have played an RBX375 for about 14 years, I’m just comfortable with it. After all these years I think it feels a bit tired. I upgraded the preamp but something about the sound just isn’t cutting it (I played in a sort of weird metal-ish band and want that big aggressive tone). The 5th string sustain isn’t quite what it was as well. I’ve never really had it set up because it played so damn well off the shelf and is so comfy I’ve always been afraid someone will ruin it. I’m kind of torn as to what to do. The pickups have these thumb rests which are pretty cool and comfy - from what I know other pickups tend to be smaller and don’t slot in well. Retiring this bass would also feel like leaving an old friend haha. Any advice?

    Hey Tyler, great video!
    I was hoping you could give me some advice ;)
    I want to buy a Precision style Bass and was contemplating between a new Yamaha 734A and a used Fender American Standard Precision from 2011. The Fender costs about 200 bucks more. I really love the general Fender look and the color of that very instrument but the Yamaha sound samples I heard also sounded great and unfortunately I can't compare the two basses in person. I already own a Sire V7 so I got the Jazz Bass department covered and as I play my Basses mostly for home recording the verstility from a JP Style is not that important to me.
    I'd love to hear your thoughts on these two basses.
    Edit: Now there's also a used Nate Mendel Signature model for the same price as the Yamaha available. Too many choices... D:

    • @TylerSpicer
      @TylerSpicer  3 года назад +1

      A tough one for sure! For home recording I’d probably shoot for the Fender Standard P (I don’t like the jazz neck on the Mendel, whilst everything else hardware wise is very good). That’s gonna just sound sound like you expect a P bass to sound and have solid resale down the road. You also don’t have to worry about batteries, active/passive etc and can just grab it and go for recording and use the tone knob to shape your sound.
      I love the Yamaha and its PJ setup, but it is a Yamaha take on those sounds, and not the classic Fender sound. Given you have the rear pickup option on your Sire, I think that would be my choice. The fact that the tone control doesn’t roll off in the same way on the Yammy as the Fender also makes the Fender the choice for me as a second bass for recording! T

      Hey! The TRBs are great, but I feel the 735 will more naturally cover the rock stuff as well as the funk and give you those classic tones. Switch it to the P when you’re doing the rock and punk thing, Nudge it back towards the J slightly for the slap and funk stuff. The TRBs are great but for a rock thing, not gonna sit in the mix as naturally. T

    Not much of a fan of PJ configurations.. I have one from FMI and the mix is touchy.. I mostly use the bass either as a P with some level of tone or just a J with the tone off. There is only one ‘mix’ I prefer and not always easy to dial in with the presence of sound in the room and not often required, since the P or J sound usually suffice for what needs to be played and how the bass needs to be physically attacked for the bass part. That said, there is another ‘sound’ that’s afforded by the combination, but way overrated, as there are ways around it. I think my biggest beef is the unseamlessness of the combination. Maybe the really expensive PJ’s are better ?
