- Facts about this video: Both HFD and HPD approved this event. Here in Houston I went through the same process of getting online to print the same form ANY CITIZEN can fill out and send in to the Public Information Office for approval. Its a benefit that any citizen thats in Houston has so its fair to all. Like everything there's a set of rules that have to be followed for approval and I met them. The form is called a "Apparatus Visit" form. As a firefighter when someone request a firetruck visit we call it a PR which stands for Public Relations. Both fire and police do them all the time at schools, businesses, birthday parties, etc. Its the fun part of our job and the kids love it. No one is ever sent a bill by the city for a fire truck visit. When any emergency unit is doing a "PR" / "Apparatus visit" they MUST BE IN-SERVICE AND READY FOR IMMEDIATE RESPONSE. The emergency units picked to be used for these events are the ones assigned to the territory of the address put down on the apparatus form. My fiancé who thought she was out-of-service for traffic control was really in-service the whole time as well. You can even hear the radio dispatch channel going off in the video. All equipment on the ground was brought by me thats been put out-of-service from another department that I work for which the Fire Chief there allowed me to borrow it. I did this so it didn't delay any emergency response if one came through. The cool thing about my proposal was both Station 50 and 5 were excited to used this opportunity to use this house as a training evolution. The Captains were able to teach the rookie fire tactics plus the veterans also keep fresh on their fire ground skills. So for those who say this was a waste of tax payers money and use of equipment I hope you know the truth now and have a better understanding on why this was approved and a benefit to the department! I would like to express our gratitude on all the support and the awesome congratulatory messages that have been sent to us. You all ROCK!!!. My now fiancé and I THANK YOU so much and we love reading them to each other! Proposal Date was on Friday, May 30, 2014 at exactly 3:40PM

There is no taxpayer money wasting. That scene they set up is just like many training drills that fire depts run on a daily basis. Using a smoked up house to pull hose and throw ladders, its called "training" and if you can throw in an ingenious proposal then sweet. Laypersons, dont comment off the cuff if you have no clue what you are talking about. Good job bro! Stay safe and congrats!
Very well said! Thank you! All the equipment on the ground ahas equipment I brought myself from a smaller department I work for that allowed me to us it being it was out-of-service equipment. No equipment was pulled of any off the Houston Fire apparatus that way if they did get a call they can jump in a go! :)

I qualified as a firefighter just over 10 months ago and I absolutely freaking love this job - best decision I've ever made in my life. I met the love of my life - another firefighter - at a warehouse fire that took 20 - 30 engines from 4 different companies over 24 hours to extinguish.
The Fire and Rescue Service is a huge family and everyone looks after each other. This is the happiest I've ever been - I don't know why I ever had a desk job 😂

I find it sad that so many people never even bother to read the description of the video and immediately go right to bad-mouthing you for "spending tax payer's dollars" on your proposal. I'm hoping to be a marine biologist and oceanographer, so not quite as dangerous (minus the sharks.) It gets hard being the significant other of a public service person, but I wouldnt dream of anyone other than him. everyone forget about whether they were in service, the taxpayer's money, and the use of resources. police officers and firefighters are underpaid and still don't hesitate to risk their lives for us! they have all earned a special occasion like this and then some in my book!

Some of you people don't get it do you? They were still in service so at any time had a real call come in they would have left. So they were out doing something to help out two service members get on in life. If they had not done anything the fire truck and firefighters would have been sitting at the station waiting for a call. Little to no money was wasted here, maybe at the most the full cost there and back in the truck. I think the ones saying negative things are just jelly they cant find someone that wants to spend the rest of their life with them. You would think people would have a little more appreciation for the ones risking their lives for their community.
