  • I was completely disgusted by the clip I saw of Ariana Grande and the pastor at Aretha Franklin's funeral. There's no excuse. It's not funny. It's not "okay". Christians must speak out.

    He knew exactly what he was doing.... and he knew exactly how to do it so it could still be trivial and seem unintentional. That was his only chance to have such a close interaction with her and he gladly took it, and used it for his own satisfaction and sick impulses. He abused his power as the preacher and I guess master of ceremony. He felt safe to intrude her space like that bc they were on camera in front of an audience, and knew she wouldn’t make a fuss, he strategically made that unnecessary joke to distract her (and the audience) from what he was doing so she didn’t even get the chance to process what was happening. He’s a piece of shit. Period. And of course she didn’t speak up, we have to consider she was in a black space as a white person, I’m sure that plays a part too and it’s adding to the conflicting feelings she is probably having about it. It’s fucked up all the things he used to his advantage to subdue her to this position. Smh

    One of the problems is that church has turned into a stage. A circus, not a house of true worship. God bless you for your honesty and boldness on this issue!

    • @cbaba3576
      @cbaba3576 6 лет назад

      It's just not about church. People don't want to talk about the elephant in the room. Black American men at respectable positions of authority should not be doing this 🤢 it happens way too often and you wonder why the out of wedlock rate in their community is at 77%. Even worse, outside of the black community 83% of biracial babies born to black men are also born out of wedlock. Pattern anyone? Common denominator is black MEN. They need to do better. There's so much abuse going on

    • @HelenBelenShow
      @HelenBelenShow  6 лет назад

      Jono Ang I do think the focus on "entertainment" in out society has bled into the church. It's definitely more self-centered than God-centered in some instances. Thanks for making this point and for watching ! God bless you as well ⭐️

    • @HelenBelenShow
      @HelenBelenShow  6 лет назад

      C Baba hey, thanks for your comments. I do think, however, the state of families within the black community is a separate issue. For example, within the Catholic Church the abuse allegations are largely levied at white males with no wives or children. We also see allegations against men in other organizations that are present in their households. This suggests that the issue is most related to situations where leadership/influence and centralized and there is little accountability for these leaders. Thanks again for watching !

    Thank you for sharing your thoughts Sis. 🔥 What if this was NOT caught on Tape... 😲 Would most people believe Ariana Grande's #MeTOO When sexual harassment is reported, it will be graded by most. Those who have reported sexual harassment or assault, especially by powerful Men, have reported that they were NOT believed or lost their jobs. I felt very bad for Ariana Grande because she was clearly uncomfortable having her body touched inappropriately by the Bishop. 😢😭💔 #LoveFromCANADA 🇨🇦

    A couple of things:
    ** Update: The Bishop issued an apology for what's he says was simply him trying to hug her as he done other performers and his joke regarding Ariana's name and Taco Bell. (One source, but there are many articles: www.cbsnews.com/news/bishop-ariana-grande-aretha-franklin-funeral-apologizes-touching-on-stage/)***
    (1) If you're going to critique Ariana Grande's outfit, please explain the connection between her outfit and his behavior. Especially and Ironically since in this case the area he was groping was COVERED by clothing (not saying it would not be wrong otherwise).
    (2) Even if Ariana went to the event when a PLAN to "seduce" men and "entice" men (which I don't think she did), a "man of God" is instructed to keep his distance from such a woman NOT to make physical contact in any way with her. The Bible instructs men to take action to avoid and flee temptation. The only person who's behavior you can control is yourself.
    (3) It's important that we hold "leaders" to higher standard they committed to uphold when they were ordained/put in office. This is why people should not going into leadership quickly, without maturity, and without accountability because the calling is HIGH. Yes we make mistakes, but we have to willing to own them and accept discipline.
    Did you guys view the Pastor's actions as inappropriate?

    Thank you so much for making a video about this, and speaking out. I was absolutely disgusted, and disturbed watching that clip, and even more bc more people are not speaking out about this. It is very clear what he was doing, and the fact that people will still try to defend his actions is just as disgusting. I'm seeing more comments online about her dress (which I found inappropriate) than the fact that he took the opportunity to molest Ariana on stage in front of millions of people. I highly doubt that this was the first time "Bishop" Ellis behaved this way, he committed such an egregious act on National TV with no regard of consequences. Sadly, I'm certain that there are other people he has taken advantage of bc of his position. That "Bishop" is no man of God.

    • @HelenBelenShow
      @HelenBelenShow  6 лет назад +1

      Thank you for your support. I too saw the focus primarily on her clothing and not on the behavior very troubling. I would only add that thought I don't support this man's actions, I understand that none of us are "innocent". I think the important thing is not idolizing pastors, or expecting them to be perfect but having accountability so that wrong things can be addressed and corrected. If necessary, some leaders may need to lose their positions if they are unwilling to turn from their ways. We have to stop turning the other way on these things and dismissing it using "judge not" as a justification. Thank you very much for watching and your lovely comment.

    Unfortunately, abuse of power occurs frequently whenever a narcissistic person has the opportunity and narcissists frequently rise to the top. For example, this also happens in Buddhist congregations and it is difficult to stop because it is often considered immoral in Buddhism to say negative things about another person, particularly a monk. Of course, if a victim can't report a predator (because reporting a crime is akin to criticizing) then the abuse continues. Anyway, Christians are not the only religous group that is afflicted with this problem. I am sorry for Ariana Grande though because I know she has suffered from anxiety since the nightclub shooting and she is still young.

    I'm from the Pentecostal Apostolic Faith myself and in the church they teach you not to touch them in for the ladies it was not your husband in the men are not to touch the women it was not his wife unless you're shaking hands he is a bishop he knows better but I think he's falling from Grace because a friend of mine's go to his church and he ran for his life he doesn't go there anymore I will not say what I know about but I do know this and I will say this is all on RUclips where he stole money from one of the members who lost her mother he stole thousands of dollars from that woman so he's not walking right up right right now so I'm not surprised he did that but I am surprised that they let Ariana where that small little dress they should have given her a choir roll out of respect one of the sisters should have pulled to the side and and gave her a choir roll to help her I know that probably would have been talked about to but it would have been out of love and respect for her cuz I would have talked to her and told her sweetie you should wear roll when you go up there I will get you one so that you won't be exposed because we're in the church and is it is a funeral I don't think she knew any better but I think it was so wrong what happened to her at the funeral and she just did the family Wishes the family asked her to sing at the funeral

      tobafu f this is a good point. Abuse is wrong in any circumstance but one of the more horrible consequences of it when it happens at the hands of clergy is a crisis of faith and a distrust of the gospel. Thanks for your comment !

    Let's talk about the elephant in the room people. Be brave and face facts!! Black men even at respectable positions of authority should ermm how do I say this? Totally not be doing this 🤢 and you wonder why the out of wedlock rate in their community is at 77%. Even worse, outside of the black community 83% of biracial babies born to black men are also born out of wedlock. Pattern anyone? Common denominator is black MEN. Please do better black men. Be responsible leaders

    You ae going to have a long road if you want to really pull back the curtain on the truth. I am happy you see with clear eyes. That is an amazing thing to have to keep you safe. However, the truth of it all is much deeper and twisted then you think. So, pulling back the curtain might make you question all you believe in. The fact that you had to go into the issue of her tempting men means that you are conditioned to the system. They have trained us to dismiss and downplay. That is where they hide. Also, there is a power structure to things and people want to keep their power. That includes the woman you probably look up to right now in the church. They will come for you, tell you to downplay it, make excuses because they want to keep their standing. Plus they are also deeply conditioned. So, really think about your steps and what price you are willing to pay because all you think it true probably isn't. That is why so many have left the church. To me, I just want to live the truth no matte where It leads. Blessings to you on your journey.

      Nell C hey thanks for taking the time to express your thoughts. Did you leave the church? Was that your journey? And what are some truths you see are not being brought to the forefront? We have to start talking about these things.

      I use to be Southern Baptist back in the day. I am 53 now. I was raised in Alabama. I did question everything and it didn't hold up for me. People seem to have forgotten that religion is about your spiritual well being and what type of person you live as a result of your knowledge. You have to separate your belief in God with the church. Society blends them and that is where the danger is. The church is a money making machine. They really don't drill down to the core questions of how true the Bible is or how you apply it in real life. Every church is different of course. I use to have an internet show where I interviews survivor around the world, many were from church abuse. I think a person puts on certain outfits and we are trained to respect that. Yet in reality they are a flawed person with their own issues. I have learned to never give blind trust and next put anyone on a pedestal. Even if you deeply respect them, you still have to remember they are flawed and just a human trying to figure it out. You just have to remember that anything that is designed for profit is a system not designed to speak to your spirit. This man doing this really drove me crazy because I have seen and heard so much. The way society blows it off or turns it on her is something that still exist, even after all that we have fought to be treated better. I am glad you are open to hear things. You are a very intelligent young lady. It is people like you that will change things to be more real and safe for others. Blessings to you.

      My religion is energy of the spirit. To connect my core self to my internal and external world where they live as close to one as possible. I also believe in my connection on a cellular level to the Universe and connected to all things.

      Nell C Thank you for sharing. Your story and experience is similar to others I have heard. Sadly in the past when "Christians" had control of the legal, political, and social arenas, questioning practices and teaching was not encouraged. On a macro level, the discipline of defending the faith has existed for hundreds of years but this did not get down to the micro (church congregation) level it seems. So when people watch a History Channel documentary or read the Da Vinci Code (just a few examples) or simply have access to the internet they begin to have deep questions that are dismissed by church leadership. Eventually they just leave. This of course is made even worse by hypocrisy and abuse like we were just talking about. Thankfully, we as followers of Jesus are slowing losing the privilege of hiding behind "this is just the way it is" and starting to dig deep to learn what we believe and why we believe it. We are also learning to "clean our own side of street" (as I said in the video) and call out hypocrisy and double standards more and more. Im glad I've gotten a chance to hear your experience and current religious status because it helps me learn a little more about how far reaching these problems are. Thank you for your kind words and speaking with me. Blessings to you as well.

    • @nellc5977
      @nellc5977 6 лет назад

      You are so intelligent and see things so clearly. Those streets can't be cleaned in my opinion. The youth have to start a structure that works for them. A belief system that makes sense. I always thought about starting a place that speaks to real life. Mine would not include a God but a belief in humanity. I know there is something called Humanist but still finding my way. You will go so far. If something can't be questioned and twisted and turned in the light, then it is not something you should give your spiritual life over too. You know it is your soul when it is real. Sometimes that is a lonely path but one worth walking.

    This is why spirituality will replace religion. True spirituality acknowledges the feminine, and masculine aspects of creation, and values them with equal measure. Religion teaches women that their existence is the result of a diabolical interaction, and that they are inherently sinful, and for that, they should be punished. Punished for being female? That's ridiculous. Spiritual men see people for who they are. No article of clothing could ever overshadow the truth that exists within; the soul.

    Nope. You'd do better, if you claimed to have seen an alien space craft. You and too many others, have too much bias time on your hands.
    If you wanna same the 'pastor' "groped Ariana, then he must have groped Smokey Robinson on that same stage. No-one seemed to have anything to say that the pastor ,also had Smokey in that same side hug.Is it the pastors fault that Ariana is 4ft 4 while wearing stilts. An actual hug, would be a darn choke hold because of the height difference. That alleged 'grope hold' was at the same level as the hug he had around Smokey's waist.
    And, what made it worse, the pastor dude felt a need to apologize for what; because a bunch of Golden Girl feminists, felt shamed that the presenting pastor wasn't a female or being effeminate enough? If Ariana, had anything to truly worry about, it was not getting a cramped neck, attempting to look anyone over 5ft in the eye, while speaking with them. Or worring about keeping that Barbie dress, she was wearing down. Or... Making sure not to get dizzy and falling backwards off that small azz dais.(The pastor should have actually pushed her and the back up singers, off the stage. That was the worst, unrehearsed, rendition of a commemorative song ever to have publically happened; since Marilyn Monroe's version of Happy Birthday.
    You and other bitter 'ME TOOers" need to go take a much needed nap, and wait for further instruction. Or just maybe, knock those victim micro-chips, off your shoulders and take a LOGIC 101 class.
    That alleged 'funeral' was nothing short of a political concert. I wasn't even into Aretha's music or life like that. However, I give the entire SHOW, a C+ out of sheer respect.

      I caught that too, she said "Oh my God," which I think was in response to her shock at what was happening, not his stupid "joke". Then he ironically stated that he gives her "all his respect" and she says "me too!" I don't think she was even hearing his words at this point. She was declaring #metoo and every single person there dismissed what was occuring in front of their very eyes because public decorum.

    I wish this video would get more views because I'm tired of people defending this pervert! He was relentless... i felt so bad for her and sick to my stomach poor baby tried to save face but she was obviously uncomfortable! And as far as her dress people shes Italian and coulturally their attier is usually a bit more revealing than others. I trully feel in my heart she didnt know her dress would be considered inappropriate to the black community and hell i didnt either. She's young and fashionable of course she wouldn't look like Jhud or fantasia those are grown ass woman in a different age group. Anyway this man was so comfortable doing this you know this wasnt his first time doing such a thing. Smh

    Oh my! I am so sorry that all this took place. I keep hearing how disappointed more and more people are as time keeps passing. However, I must say that I have tried to picture myself in Bishop Charles Ellis' place. And here is what I have concluded: I simply cannot see how I would have hugged Ariana, and taking her into the pulpit would have been a no no...I think that I would have been trying not to show any special attention to her, because of how she was dressed. I think that I would have sought to steer clear of appearing to be turned on by her very revealing thighs. In other words, I think that I would be trying to steer clear of her, so that the people would not get a negative idea. I certainly don't think that I would be hugging her. BUT, that's me. However, there are times when pastors seek to help visitors feel welcomed to the point that at times they may over-do it. JUST MAYBE, in Bishop Ellis' attempt to make Ariana Grande feel that the Church was not one to heartlessly push her away, he was trying to make her feel welcomed in spite of how she was dressed. That he would disregard her attire and treat her special in spite of. That the Church was not cold hearted and selfish, but warm and compassionate, looking beyond her faults and seeing her needs...that she needed to feel included...because we don't know...Church members may have already treated her cold and with stand-offish attitudes, and the pastor may have detected it, and was seeking to comfort her as he would comfort his own daughter. Either way, God is fair and just, and He knows every detail of the matter. In conclusion, I believe that if Pastor Charles Ellis had the chance to do it all over again, he would not hug her as he did, or say to her what he said about Taco Bell; and I equally believe that if Ariana Grande had to chance to do it all over again, she would wear a more appropriate dress. I pray that everyone will find a degree of positive conclusion in this saying of Jesus Christ:, "He that is without fault among us, let him cast the first stone!"
