  • Weclome and thank you for watching the second video in my new Vintage Hot Wheels series, this time we are looking at all of the cool cars and trucks released by Mattel in 1975. This is a brand-new series of videos I will be uploading weekly - each and every year of Hot Wheels starting with 1974 I will show you my 99% complete and 90% mint collection of rare vintage Hot Wheels from yesteryear. Each video will start with a quick overview of all the cars sold in that particular year, followed by an in-depth look at each model, it's history, production, and actual current retail value. Please let me know what you think of this new series, and any additional info you may have on the cars you see in the video. Thanks! Happy Hunting! Get ready to dump your money out of your wallet, this video is guaranteed to send you shopping! You've been warned!

      You are very welcome!!! I'm happy to hear that my videos are of help to you and other collectors, it can be tough to find the information on these older cars, so I'm bringing all of it together for each year in one video! It's a lot of fun for me to bring the cars off the wall and look at them all close up again!

    I was seven in 1975 and had a few shoeboxes full of Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. I had them until I was 19 in 1987 and intended to give them to my son someday, but they were stolen. But as it goes, my sister worked at a music store in 1975 and would get her paycheck every week and buy me one new Hot Wheel, and for her a new album. Those cars meant a lot to me, especially the yellow Monte Carlo because my father had that exact real-life car (in red).
    Thanks for posting this video. That was really nice looking back on many of those cars I had forgotten about and wished I could have given to my son, who ended up collecting cars, even now as an adult.
    Oddly enough, I have those albums she bought in near mint condition, despite losing all of my cars.

      Thank you my friend! I too am a van guy, and I can tell you, lots more vans coming in the future years/videos! But 1975 was really the best year for the Super Vans, and fitting being that it was their first year in the casting line-up.

    Always makes me giddy looking at old Hot Wheels cars. Especially ones of this vintage as I had a lot of these back then. Great video and great information. I live in the UK so its a bit harder for me to get the earlier cars. Just spent last night watching your streams on 70s through to 90s cars which is what I have started collecting. I have been collecting for about a year now and have only just started getting into the early cars. I am 53 years young and believe me the Hot Wheels bug never goes away.

I had the Large Charge taken away from me by my 3rd teacher. Got it back on the last day of school. Gave them to my sons and who knows where they are now. Great collection.

    Love your video thanks for posting . I notice the Large Charge casting you have has the basic Redline back wheels there is another version of the back wheels of this casting it comes with the original Redline axles wheels in the back. Just like the yellow Porsche only it has the Redline axles wheels in the front.

    • @wtffor
      @wtffor  6 лет назад

      Thank you! Quite probable that there were axle and wheel variations for most if not all cars released in 1974 and 1975 as original redline wheels were being phased out. Nothing went to waste, the old wheels in surplus often found themselves on new castings.

    • @wtffor
      @wtffor  7 лет назад +1

      I would say you are correct, based on your observations with the wheels. Much of my information on these cars and release dates in particular is based on second hand information and research, which sometimes can have a few "holes" and require tweaking.

    YOU ARE THE HOT WHEEL GOD

  • @matthewdhoffman
    @matthewdhoffman 7 лет назад +5

    Absolutely loving these videos by year -- awesome idea. Quick question for you -- do you know why Hot Wheels un-branded some of the sports cars like the Porsche to the P-911 -- similar to the Street Beast / Ferrari 308. Was it to avoid licensing costs?

    • @wtffor
      @wtffor  7 лет назад +1

      I believe you are correct, Hot Wheels got away with a lot of cars named odd names that clearly resembled a real vehicle. Cars that were at one time named were likely not up to the standards of the actual car manufacturers, since the scale and proportions were often way off to give them the "Hot Wheels muscle car look". Back then all the companies could do was ask Mattel to rename their car, nowadays they completely stop making them!

    • @wtffor
      @wtffor  6 лет назад

      Correct, Shawn. The Dune Daddy was released in the Boulevard release, decades after the original casting and tooling was retired. The tooling was new and slightly different for the recent model, however it still counts and was an oversight of mine. Good catch!

    • @wtffor
      @wtffor  4 года назад

      Hi Scott, great question! You will be relieved to know that you do have an authentic variation of the original Super van. Many Super Vans made in 1974 through 1977 featured the "marker light casting variation", or without. I personally have found that the no marker light variation can be a bit harder to find. Good find!

    Why are hot wheels worth so much more than matchbox ?

    • @wtffor
      @wtffor  7 лет назад

      Hot Wheels took the diecast market by storm when they were introduced, due mainly to the superior speed of the cars, available race track play sets (which were highly custimizable as well), the cars hot rod styling, and plentiful colors. All of these things along with superior marketing strategies quickly drew a much larger audience and collector fan base then Matchbox. Years Later Mattel would by out Lesney, the manufacturers of Matchbox, but thankfully they are still making Matchbox and kept its identity separate from Hot Wheels.

      I spent years converting the database to around 90 Excel spread sheets, each interlinked with each other, and full of large file size pictures of each car that I own as well as file photos from the old web-site. For this reason the database as I have it now sits at nearly 5 GB of data, and pretty much no way to share it unless I hosted a web-page, which at this time I do not have time to set up and manage. There are a lot of good sites out there though with much of the same information I amassed, other then accurate pricing and the rarest variations info.
