    Great info! I haven't gotten a chance at any fork lightning in quite some time. Seems to be too imbedded in the clouds and I only get to see the reflection of it lighting up the clouds. Keep up the great work! GoPro needs to be paying you for these videos. You are probably selling more then the marketing team! LOL!!! I know that you've got me wanting one...

    Thanks for sharing these useful tips ! My only surprise is that you don't set the max iso at 100. Probably because 1/240s is too short for gathering enough light, even from a lightning ?

    This is great info.....would you do the same for sporting events just turn the iso down so it is not over exposed?............Can't wait for the storm season to arrive back in Arizona.

    • @RalphMayhewPhotography
      @RalphMayhewPhotography  2 года назад

      Yeah you could. Depends what you wanted to catch and how close you were. A time lapse might be better if you’re a long way away. The GP didn’t overheat as it was a cold night but without the wind and rain keeping its temp down it could have overheated. Also the existing for anything but lightning is hard going. With lightning you just scroll till the black screen flashes. It would be harder without the dynamic contrast to help know where to stop.

    What if the lightning is far away and any chance u have the new gopro i did copy ur settings but i assume the storm was too far out at sea also do we record in slowmo?

    • @RalphMayhewPhotography
      @RalphMayhewPhotography  8 месяцев назад

      If it’s far away I’d use the most punched in aspect ratio (zoom) and I reckon slow mo too as the lightning is SUPER fast. The closer you are (be safe) and the bigger the storm, the better results will be. But be safe always!! 👊

    Hello, Got the GoPro 10 as you suggested and have been checking out youtube videos trying to find the best settings to capture fireworks at night. I really have no idea where to start. I understand you have a life but any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

    • @RalphMayhewPhotography
      @RalphMayhewPhotography  2 года назад +1

      Oh that’s a great question!! Gotta do a vid on that for sure. So when I take fireworks I use the following DSLR ISO 100, f5, 10secs settings. So I think I’d start with the GoPro at Night Photo mode 10 seconds, iso max (maybe) 400 but may need to go down to 200 depending how close you are and how bright they are. High sharpness. Vibrant colour. RAW output. You may need to take iso max down to 100. But I’d start there. Hope that helps. I’d LOVE to see what you arrive at. Tag me on Insta @ralphmayhew.photography
