Katniss only said "yes" to coins hunger games because she needed coin to trust her if she was ever going to get a chance for revenge. She needed it to seem like she was fully supportive of coin, or else she wouldn't have been able to get close enough to kill her. Katniss realized the only way to stop the games was to kill coin, and simply voting "no" wouldn't have made any difference. The vote was nothing more than a formality to justify coins already made decision to have another games, and give her the ability to say that it was sanctioned by the victors, not just her. If she had just voted no, coin could have still had the games anyway, but just gotten rid of Katniss quietly or discredited her to the public. Katniss was largely irrelevant at the end of the war because her job was done. So coin could have simply disposed of katniss if she wasn't on her side, justifying it with saying that she was somehow a traitor, or a criminal, or crazy, or traumatized, etc etc etc......anything to discredit her. Katniss couldn't let this happen, so she did the only thing she new would at least give her a CHANCE to kill coin, which was to gain her trust by voting yes and appearing to be on her side. Re read the scene and it'll become pretty obvious what Katniss was doing when she said "yes". For example, just before the meeting with the other victors, she was recalling Boggs message to her about how coin didn't like her because she wasn't fully on her side. And then after Katniss says "yes", she thinks something like "and now we get to see just how well haymitch knows me", after which he stares at her and ponders for a bit, then says "I'm with the mockingjay". Now notice he doesn't say "yes. I think another games would be a good idea". This was intentional. He wasn't saying yes to another games, but rather saying that he was onboard with katniss' decision to kill her through gaining her trust. He understood her so well by this point in the series that he was able to figure out what she was trying to do by saying yes to coin. Overall, It's a really great scene because for the first time Katniss isn't just a pawn in someone else's games. She takes control of the situation and ends the games forever.
I found it interesting that Prim died because it brought me back to the 1st book when her name was called at the Reaping. She was so young and inexperienced that if she were to actually go to the Games, she would probably have been killed. And if she would have I wonder if any of this rebellion would have happened. So it's almost like it came full circle in some way.
I was overwhelmed with sadness for everyone but especially for Katniss .she fight so much but she didn't have her happy ending. I know she was with Peeta but she lost to much and she was physically not well. I cried a loot .
Katniss said yes to the hunger games to get on coin side and kill her. That's why Amish said I'm with the mocking jay and not I'm with katniss. They know what each other think like during the first game with the gift.

DolphinGirl826 how is Finnick's death more sad than Prim's? Prim is literally the girl that started this revolution since she got reaped which prompted Katniss to volunteer! She's a sweet girl that deserved better and idk what's so special about Finnick who hardly did anything but be an attractive sex symbol that kicked butt in Catching Fire but hardly did anything in Mockingjay!

Girl I feeeeeel you! Many are unhappy with mockingjay and the ending to the franchise I think its so brilliant and powerful. Its been a long while since I cried at the end of a book, but I don't know if I was tearing at the heartbreakingly awesome ending or at the fact that the franchise is actually over. I love love Johanna in this book and I was hoping that in the end she lives with Katniss or smth, I mean shes such a poor thing with no family and all and her relationship with Katniss was nice. My fav character was Peeta and the part when he was reported to have returned, then when he strangled Katniss, I almost went insane. Collins know how to screw our brains up alright, but I love the plot. I was so glad Gale left on his own, probably coz he felt guilty, but then Katniss no longer need to choose between the 2. Team Peeniss!!
I just started reading big time so I have an excuse for not reading this series until now. This book was amazing. I loved it. It was a little hard to read the first chapter because Katniss is just talking about District 12, but after that I couldn't stop reading.
God I loved the hunger games trilogy all the way through. I read it all at once a while ago, then reread it and had to stop before it took my life over. And I hate people who hate how short mocking jay is because I loved it
i was actually dissapointed in this book. i thought it ended abruptly and katniss annoyed me at the end but i still love the series and the epilouge was definetly my favorite part especially the last paragraph and line
i finished the hunger games trilogy in less than a week and LOVED it! my fav was catching fire(:my least was mocking jay.i just didn't like district 13 and how petta went pyscho.was always a petta fan tho.love ya christine!!you're halarious
I liked all three books although the last one felt rushed at the end. What moves me most was how Katniss described her choice, how she herself had enough fire. At heart this whole book series seemed to me about healing--healing a society, healing the souls of those within it, and mostly healing of Katniss. And the healing hurt, but was better than leaving the wounds to fester. Reminded me of Ken Burns' THE CIVIL WAR that way.
I liked that prim died because it was such a plot twister, plus I was never really cared about her character. Finnicks death was shocking, but not sad. However he was my favorite character because he was so funny
just finished the book the other day, and I was so upset when prim died, and I liked finick more then gale anyway. but I loved the book on the whole, but I feel like the book finishes so quick, well it wasn't quick but after so many people dying I just would like more time focusing on that then hurrying onto the next part. I love the conclusion with Katniss and Peeta, but I feel like the conclusion with most everything else you don't get much on, like if Plutarch was part of the kid bombing, and what the government turned out like after, and so much more. So happy Peeta ended up with her. And finally I know not a lot of people do but the first is my favorite, and then mockingjay and then catching fire, I only did one readthrew so maybe I'll change my mind after, but the first one its fun getting to learn who she is and everything about her. the entire series is great, but in my opinion mockingjay really makes the entire series. I cant wait for the last movie to come out, I found that catching fire was a lot closer to the book and overall better then the first hungergame movie, and mockingjay part 1 was closer to the book and done better then catching fire, so I'm optimistic about part 2, and hopefully they give us more time about the conclusion, finishes everything up fuller then the book.
U MUST!!! Read the vampire academy series now!!!! One of the best book series ever!!!!! Ther r like 5 of them out an the last 1 comes out in December!!! Seriously tho the book is ahhhhmazing!
mockingjay is my favoritebook, not just from thg. when prim died i couldn't breathe, my sister asked me wat happened and all i could say was "she's dead" i hadnt feel so bad for anyone in anybook, it was amazing and so emotional and i wish i could find a book that made me feel the way i felt with it
I loved Peeta and it devastated me that he would never be the same again. Luckily he got a better and they ended up together that sort of compensated for chapters and chapters of sadness.
Prim and Finnick. I didn't cry until I completed the novel. Then everything that happened, the bittersweet ending, just crashed on me. And all I could think was, "Suzanne Collins is a bloody good writer." I thought the story captured the feel of revolutions, really depicting what a revolution would be like. It was amazing. Everyone's death had significance. Nothing was lost or gratuitous. And gah so good. ps the hanging tree song, did you sing it? Sounds so good. Record the whole thing, please?
here it's safe, here it's warm here the dasies guard you from every harm here your dreams are sweet and tomorrow brings them true here is the place where i love you ......I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!
I was so chocked when Prim died, it happened so fast at last where everybody dies. At last I kind of felt like Katniss when she had lost the will to live. One of the best books I've read!
I just finished the books and I love them sooo much :D And i believed from the start Peeta and Katniss will end up together and when I read it it was amazing and made me cry. I cried a lot through the books. And the death of Finnick, I didnt see that coming... He was finally happy, and then he died... Amazing books :)
I absolutely LOVED this series. My favorite of the series is also Catching Fire, but I was heartbroken when Peeta and Katniss were seperated haha. Peeta is my favorite character, definitely. And Prim. And FInnick. Many of them! lol I was also a little confused at the end of Mockingjay, still loved the book, though as a whole. I'm trying to get more people I know to read it since they ARE MAKING A MOVIE TO BE OUT NEXT YEAR.
The last book is my favorite one, and my favorite scene would have to be when Katniss kisses Peeta and he almost freaks out but she says,"Stay with me," and he still replies with "Always". I thought that was so sweet and touching. I think Finnick's death was the worst for me. His character grew so much in Mockingjay and Catching Fire, that he became one of my favorite characters.
XD i love how you're fangirling throughout this entire video. i finished Mockingjay about an hour ago, and i've entered this crazy research mode. i think it has something to do with wanting to make up for the ending of that book. ...what the crap really? everyone dies. gale moves away. my life sucks. the end. ._____.
SPOILER Finnik's death was soo pointless, just to make the moment (and the book overall) dramatic. Plus, she didn't even get to kill him, the mission was a failure. And stupid: she could have killed him when the rebels captured him when they took the Capital. Her whole team dead because of her
The part I really hated - which affected my outlook on the whole book - was when Peeta came back and he was changed. It was then that I realised how messed up his head was because the Capitol dug around and altered his perception of the world - especially Katniss; so, by the end, he was programmed to think of her as the enemy. I love Peeta, so I'm still kind of in a daze where I'm frozen at the point of realising he will never be the same loving, kind, carefree Peeta as before. I want him back!
That book left me so depressed at the end. The whole series was very well written and I read it in 6 days but I did not like Mockingjay as much as the other two. I just finished it with a void in my heart. The best part was definitely when Katniss shot Coin instead of Snow. I knew she would. I also liked that she ended up with Peeta. If I rewrote the book, Kat would take more action in capturing Snow and his mansion and Prim would have survived. She was the whole reason the HG started.
The book was awesome and while i enjoyed the movies the books made me a fan. Not the best of writing styles but it's easy to follow...except Mockingjay. I reeeally had to pay attention, especially at the end with sooo much going on. Things I dislike: her just being a propos person and not a "real soldier" even though she kinda earns it. Shes not a real player in any decision making except...Katness does what she wants always. I hate Finnick died and so fast with no real way to mourn him. He was just gone. I hated Peetas hijacking. Hated Collins for taking him away. Like his best thing to me was his undying love for Katnis. AND the end felt rushed. Gale just never shows up again and although we have a happy ending with all that happenned I dont know...we needed more at the end. Oh and Katnis was just ticking me off being mean to Peeta when this boy loved her like crazy instead of helping him all along. Smh @ her. Oh and she should have killed Snow herself. What I liked: action action action. Getting to know certain characters better and yes loved Boggs. But what I love most is how when Peeta remembers things. 'Youre not that big. Or particularly pretty' lol "I must have really loved you... you are a real piece of work". Umm wow I had to read that a few times...like what did they do to my Peeta. But best of all are all the real or not real moments...especially the last one. Rating: HG #1 MJ#2 (because I keep going back to it) and CF a close #3 idk maybe CF is a tie with MJ
The thing that confused me most was Peeta at the end, I wasn't sure if he had all his memory back to normal or if he just ended up loving Katniss anyways? I wish there was more elaboration on what exactly had happened to him with the hijacking.
I got all three books at the end of school so i was glued for days and i was litterly crying and sobbing at rues death i looked up (i was in class) and my friend was like : wtf?? i pointed to the book and mouthed "rue" and she was like ' ;o; oohhhh. So i loved boggs at once cause of one line " well , dont espect us to be to impressed . we just saw Finnick in his underwear"i lol'd . The 2nd games was rushed to me,they didnt have to much trouble durring the games
first reading: catching fire, hunger games, mockingjay second reading: hunger games, mockingjay, catching fire (which relies on surprise to make it so exciting and awesome to read)
About the rescue mission- I was sure Gale is going to die and Peeta will return and then Katniss will have a hard time being with him, I was actually sure Gale is going to die throughout the entire book but I'm glad he didn't, I wanted Katniss to choose Peeta, because he's the one for her... And I was just like with Peeta repeating lines from the first book, especialy the "always" and when he tells her that she still doesn't understand the influence she has....
I think the reason Gale didn't end up with Katniss was because Gale made the bomb prim died in. Katniss was mad at him and that's when i think gale gave up and left her, while peetah came back to district 12 and stayed with her, they got closer and then one day peetah asks her "Do you love me Real or not Real" and katniss says "Real" i was so happy i thought it was so sweet, it was my fav line in the whole book. But i was shocked about Gale i wanted to know more about his life in district 2.
Omg i'm gonna cry my eyes out when i read Mockingjay. But thank you so much for helping me figure out the hole book i was all like WTF??? in some parts so ya.
Even though I'm team Gale, I didn't mind how she ended up with Peeta (I figured it'd happen anyway) but what annoyed me was how he wasn't mentioned again, he just vanished, never to be seen again. But other than that this series was a WIN! (I really hope they don't screw up the film).
Peeta or Gale...I could NOT make my mind up! in Hunger Games I loved the idea of Gale because i love those stories about two people growing up and falling for each other. But I still loved Peeta even though I was always so hesitant about whether he was lying about liking Kat but I warmed up to him. and then by Mockingjay I changed my mind again and loved Gale again and was really really rooting for him and thought Peeta was done for. and then by the end of the book I finally picked Peeta. xD
My favorite part was where Katniss finds Buttercup in her house back in 12 after she kills Coin and Snow and she starts yelling at him but then it turns out they help each other grieve over Prim and that was good
While I was reading Mockingjay, everything seemed to go so fast, and all of it got muddled together. I still love The Hunger Games series, but Mockingjay was definitely my least favorite. The last line in Mockingjay, is my favorite in the whole series. _But there are much worst games to play._
rchristine you rock!! and because of you i started to read the city of bone books and now the hunger games!!how come olivia hasent been making any more videos on the polandbananas20?
Suzanne Collin just doesnt want us to have a moment with Peeta, does she? I was so upset cuz Peeta lost his mind! and he tried to killed Katniss, the only person he loved since forever!!! :'( And when she kissed him and tell him to stay with her, and he said "Always", tears were pouring down on my face. Finnick's death: heart breaking. He really grew on me :'( I thought the end was a bit rush and Prim's death out of nowhere but i did cry when Katniss was yelling at Buttercup that Prim died :(
All I can say is..... So depressed after finishing this series. There was closure with Peeta but I feel like the reunion between them that I desperately wanted didn't happen. That really leaves me with an empty feeling. Bittersweet ending that left me wanting more between them to be explained in details:(
I did see that she was going to kill Coin--as soon as Snow told her about what had really happened, I knew she was going to kill her. But I had thought and hoped that she would kill Snow also. I wasn't too surprised about Katniss--I kinda figured she would want revenge, and I it would be a great way for Coin to sort of control Katniss. I also think that Coin wanted to start the new Hunger Games from the start, ensure the victory, and be able to have more control over Katniss.
I think Katniss said yes to the Games because she was trying to keep Coin's trust so that she could kill her instead of Snow. Cause when you think about it, Coin was responsible for Prim's death, and Katniss said yes "for Prim".
OMG I love you! haha my friends think these books sound stupid and I was trying to explain how I was laughing at finnick in his underwear and everyone just looks at me like im a crazy person. Even when I cry over books! Yea your review was right on the spot! Do you know of anymore books like the hunger games?
Book Order For me Is: Catching Fire, Mockingjay and lastly Hunger Games Watching this made be remember how emotional i was reading Mockingjay, like it was soooo sad. At the end, I just shut the book. and sat for 20mins thinking..then i reread the last 5 chapters and sat for another 20mins..Prim~!!!
I'm really weird. I like Mockingjay the most. I really don't know why but it just was amazing. I like all of The Hunger Games books about the same. I think it was the way it just surprised me. It's really hard to get me to even tear up. I was full on crying through the whole book. My second favorite was Catching Fire. Than The Hunger Games.
I just finished MockingJay yesterday and it's just to sad to think about! All the deaths, Katniss going crazy and Peeta :'( Don't get me started on Finnick, Cinna, Boogs and Prim!
i no im after postin lik 3 really long things but none of my friends read so dey dnt even no wat d hunger games r nd u thought all d same things as me!!i really lik haymitch in dis book its shows how much he acctually prefered katniss to peeta nd i tink he acctually kind of loved her...in a mentor way:) i tink madge will b issed in d movie nd i tink her nd gale wud hav been some couple! ;) i
OMG,, hav u heard, Lets Not Play Pretend by Kimmy West? its a song for hunger games from Peeta's point of view sort of thing,, its really amazing and nice,,, look it up!!!
I cant wait till this book gets turned into a movie..and wen prim died I cried:'(..but I loved the end when peeta asks u love me real or not real and katniss answers real:''''(tear
The ending was bitter sweet

The fire mutts were a metaphor for actual fire as well as the way she looked burnt.
My favourite was also Catching Fire!! I just couldn't put that one down (none of the books really, but that one, I read in one night.)
mockingjay is my favoritebook, not just from thg. when prim died i couldn't breathe, my sister asked me wat happened and all i could say was "she's dead" i hadnt feel so bad for anyone in anybook, it was amazing and so emotional and i wish i could find a book that made me feel the way i felt with it
I loved Peeta and it devastated me that he would never be the same again.
Record the whole thing, please?
catching fire is my fav too!
here it's safe, here it's warm
here the dasies guard you from every harm
here your dreams are sweet and tomorrow brings them true
here is the place where i love you
......I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!
This is an amazing series one of my faves ever and it's my favorite trilogy of all time.
I love this series so much
Now it’s been a decade 😌
I was so chocked when Prim died, it happened so fast at last where everybody dies. At last I kind of felt like Katniss when she had lost the will to live. One of the best books I've read!
when I finished the trilogy I was like what do I do now. I cant wait for catching this year in November
I just finished the books and I love them sooo much :D And i believed from the start Peeta and Katniss will end up together and when I read it it was amazing and made me cry. I cried a lot through the books. And the death of Finnick, I didnt see that coming... He was finally happy, and then he died... Amazing books :)
Yea i found the ending mission confusing too. It all happened so quick i didnt even realize what happened to Prim. I had to go back and reread it lol
I absolutely LOVED this series. My favorite of the series is also Catching Fire, but I was heartbroken when Peeta and Katniss were seperated haha. Peeta is my favorite character, definitely. And Prim. And FInnick. Many of them! lol
I was also a little confused at the end of Mockingjay, still loved the book, though as a whole.
XD i love how you're fangirling throughout this entire video. i finished Mockingjay about an hour ago, and i've entered this crazy research mode. i think it has something to do with wanting to make up for the ending of that book.
...what the crap really? everyone dies. gale moves away. my life sucks. the end.
._____.
SPOILER
Finnik's death was soo pointless, just to make the moment (and the book overall) dramatic.
@jamcop108 i think in a writer's perspective. Prim's death was the excuse to kill off Coin. In which Coin is an evil character anyways.
Really got confused with the ending.. still had to google it to understand some points. THOUGH, Prim and Finnick dying?? was such a tearrjerkerrr
The 2nd games was rushed to me,they didnt have to much trouble durring the games
can you please make a book talk for the prequel!
Same rating, catching fire was best. But as you said they are all amazing books.
first reading: catching fire, hunger games, mockingjay
second reading: hunger games, mockingjay, catching fire (which relies on surprise to make it so exciting and awesome to read)
I honestly loved Gale so much throughout the series, so when he just leaves to District 2- never to be heard/mentioned of again- I was so so mad!
omg! i cried so hard when finnik died! i luoved him! but at least he has a child... but still
About the rescue mission- I was sure Gale is going to die and Peeta will return and then Katniss will have a hard time being with him, I was actually sure Gale is going to die throughout the entire book but I'm glad he didn't, I wanted Katniss to choose Peeta, because he's the one for her...
And I was just like with Peeta repeating lines from the first book, especialy the "always" and when he tells her that she still doesn't understand the influence she has....
i liked it, but i liked it least of the three especially as Peeta never really returned to the one i missed
"..Gale's gonna die..YES" - Soo evil. I think I love you xD
i love ur review on this i completly get what ur tlking about i was sad when u ended the vid
Finick was my favorite character!!!!! And then they killed him and I throw the book!
He really grew on me :'(
I thought the end was a bit rush and Prim's death out of nowhere
but i did cry when Katniss was yelling at Buttercup that Prim died :(
All I can say is..... So depressed after finishing this series. There was closure with Peeta but I feel like the reunion between them that I desperately wanted didn't happen. That really leaves me with an empty feeling. Bittersweet ending that left me wanting more between them to be explained in details:(
It's scary!! I thought of the exact same things as you when i read it :O with the cat and in the end when they voted!! And many other times! :)
And yes, I was really confused by the fire attack and the passage after that! After that I got back on track.
im so so so happy that katniss and peeta ended up together. i was always cheering for peeta and not gale!
Your the reason why I can say I read the hunger games in early 2010 way before the world loved it! YAYA lol
Book Order For me Is: Catching Fire, Mockingjay and lastly Hunger Games
Watching this made be remember how emotional i was reading Mockingjay, like it was soooo sad. At the end, I just shut the book. and sat for 20mins thinking..then i reread the last 5 chapters and sat for another 20mins..Prim~!!!
"you are now running on reserve battery power" way to kill the mood. I JUST DIED
#1 Hunger Games book is best because it has Rue. That was my FAVORITE character ever!
I just finished MockingJay yesterday and it's just to sad to think about! All the deaths, Katniss going crazy and Peeta :'( Don't get me started on Finnick, Cinna, Boogs and Prim!
i no im after postin lik 3 really long things but none of my friends read so dey dnt even no wat d hunger games r nd u thought all d same things as me!!i really lik haymitch in dis book its shows how much he acctually prefered katniss to peeta nd i tink he acctually kind of loved her...in a mentor way:) i tink madge will b issed in d movie nd i tink her nd gale wud hav been some couple! ;) i
OMG,, hav u heard,
Lets Not Play Pretend by Kimmy West?
its a song for hunger games from Peeta's point of view sort of thing,, its really amazing and nice,,, look it up!!!
I cant wait till this book gets turned into a movie..and wen prim died I cried:'(..but I loved the end when peeta asks u love me real or not real and katniss answers real:''''(tear
I was SO MAD when I read the part when Peeta does that, and I was crying and yelling!
