So wonderful to hear these stories from the great Paul Hornsby, last surviving member of the legendary Hourglass band. As indicated in his book (and Gregg's), the band met and jammed with an amazing variety of famous and soon-to-be famous musicians while living in LA in '67 and '68. I highly recommend Paul's book to fans of the Allman Brothers Band.

I was at Pepe's A'GoGo the night the Nitty Gritties came in. Duane invited me to dinner at the Chase Hotel where I listened to Bill McEuen tell him and Gregg that he'd get them a record deal with Liberty Records if they came to LA. After their engagement at Pepe's they headed west. In his book Gregg said "We just wanted to get out of St. Louis."
