    My feet use to get cold a lot until I realize it’s all about moisture control! Now I exclusively wear non insulated highly breathable boots with different grades of Marino wool socks depending on the outside temperature. This method is good down to about 20 degrees!

      Also if you use foot powder it will also cut the moisture. Its a "game changer" lol

    1600 gram LaCrosse rubber boots, thin sock in, thick wool socks once in the stand. Nice and warm all day during late season.

    Great video guys! I bought a fjallraven wool flannel last year and absolutely loved it in my layering system. I’m definitely adding more wool to my system! I also use the first lite wool long Johns and danner hiking boots for hill country. I’ve basically stopped using my “whitetail” Sitka setup because it’s too heavy for public land. I’ll still use it for my private land spots, but my all day public Ohio hunts look a lot different then it did a few years ago.

    Edit: this is an at your own risk thing. Don't be dim when attempting this. But it could save your life.
    A little tip if you are higher up on a hill or mountain and you find a water source. First look at it make sure its clear. Second to a leaf on top make sure that leaf or piece of grass leaves fast. This indicates flow. High flow means little to no bacteria because they can't stick around to reproduce. Third grab a handful and smell it. You are checking for smells. Such as a copper sulfer or rott. If there is something causing problems upstream you will be able to smell it. Fourth get a mouthfull swish it around and see how it tastes. You might get a strong mineral taste thats actually ok and good in some cases. What you are looking for is any sign of putrid tastes or chemical taste. Grew up finding fresh spring fed creeks in the mountains of West Virginia and this was taught to me by my scout leader who was one of the few actual mountain men registered in the state

    i agree 100% on the rubber boot story. No ankle support, Scent blows out the top, feet sweat. and even i can smell rubber from the boots. Show me an archery elk hunter that wears those rubber boots in the mountains.

    i agree mostly on the breathable boot. But it depends on where you hunt. Here in finland even the military wears rubber boots with removable wool liners. It is The best choise for half frozen swamps and shin deep slush. before the snow falls i wear simple m77 boots and when it gets dry cold i stick to canvas and wool

    I like the idea of less hunters wearing rubber boots. That will just keep more hunters out of the wet stuff, which is where I go. Keep spreading the rubber boots don't have a place in deer hunting talk, love it! haha

    Cam his beauty shines outward for all to see. Yes, we all obviously can see his outer physical beauty. You'd have to be blind not to see he's a hunk of ah man but the beauty I speak of is is on the inside. The beauty that truely matters. Inner&outer, the total package. Love that guy.

    Sweat is the enemy when it comes to your feet more than anything. I hate rubber boots. Merino wool socks in different thicknesses good comfortable boots with boot blankets for when it gets freezing cold. 21 years Combat Engineer then 10 years contracting.

    Cam!!!! What kinda Gators do you have??? I literally hunt swamps and marsh’s 1/2 the season... Sept-Jan.... I agree if I new there was no water I would buy a great pair of leather boots... I live in mine all year and I’d say every year there junk at the end... I tear them or they leak... Iv owner ever brand so that really for the most part doesn’t matter.... if gators really work, I’d be game to try them!!! But if they don’t you need to buy them off me then 😂😂😂... JK.... but your really telling me fully submerged walking let’s say 1 mile in water to your calf with leather boots and gators you won’t get wet?

      I can’t speak for their effectiveness in those kinds of conditions, but I’m wearing the outdoor vision gear gaters. I haven’t had any issues with them at all! But I’m not trekking through swamps or rivers haha.

    Biggest downside to that water filter is the weight. If youre backpacking in 1 lb is a lot when you could do like born and raised and have a dirty bag and just connect a sawyer in line filter and drink from it.

    • @chadsyl23
      @chadsyl23 3 года назад +1

      For sure. I’m headed on a backpack hunt this September and did a lot of research on water filtration systems. I’ve never touched an inline but A LOT of guys won’t run them because they get clogged and become a pain.
      I plan to also run one platypus bag and chlorine tabs (as back up) for water at camp plus a bag in my day pack.
      The other guys I’m going with just use the chlorine tabs, not filter at all. I guess we’ll see how my gear shapes out. I’m sure I’ll end up making some tweaks and changes throughout the years!
      Thanks for watching!!

      @@chadsyl23 i bought aqua mira tabs i think when i went on my elk hunt and never used them. We werent backpacking though. Hunting from a base camp. Good luck! Would be cool to see a bag dump before you go and then a follow-up on what worked and didnt work. I like seeing how whitetail guys like myself prepare for a western hunt. I took a lot of stuff i didn't need but would have been uncomfortable leaving it at home because it was my first time.

    Comment on the rubber boots. Switched to them 20 years ago and never looking back. Nothing beats them for scent control or being water proof. Your feet are sweating and stinking because like you and many others they are being worn the wrong way. You are NOT suppose to wear them on the outside of your pants. Jamming all that clothing in there cuts off air circulation and makes your feet sweat and stinks up your clothes as well. You wouldn’t tuck in your pants when wearing your hiking boots so why do people do it when wearing rubber boots. Makes no sense! A good quality rubber boot like Tidewe worn the proper way will beat a pair of those hiking boots for the reasons I stated early hands down every time.

    • @camthecameraman5096
      @camthecameraman5096 3 года назад +1

      That’s a good point! Probably something very overlooked by a lot of people and makes a lot of sense! But they’ll still never come close to hiking boots for comfort and breathability. And as far as the scent control I’m not convinced any boot will leave you scent free so I’ll take the comfortable boot 10/10 times. Thanks for you feedback and comment though! Thats definitely eye opening. A lot of people are wearing them wrong

      @@camthecameraman5096 I'v never had a deer smell my trail from walking in with my muck boots so they must be working. Yes, I tuck my pants inside but I change my socks every time I take my boots off plus I dry them out every night. I only wear hiking boots if I'm walking all day or scouting.
