I’m 56 and started hunting when I was 6 with my dad and family. We hunted from squirrel season to the end of rabbit season. August to march. I have spent thousands on crap hunting clothes. After starting to elk hunt out west several years ago I realized Walmart clothes were not going to cut it. After researching and trying things from the big 3 I settled on Sitka. Fit, comfort, quality and function is worth every penny. I now probably own around 25 different articles of Sitka in subalpine and EV2 and will never own or need anything else. It’s a investment and if you are a young person, invest and be done.
Chris you may or may not read this ,but I gotta say man you are the reason i got back into bow hunting. I had tommy john surgery and destroyed my elbow. After surgery i pretty much gave up on drawing back a bow. Started watching your channel and missed doing it. So I started shooting bows and found the pse evlove cams. Being extra difficult to draw a bow and even more difficult to hold one back I loved the 90% left off of the cams really feels gotta take my first buck with it last year. I can honestly say living in iowa and not deer hunting is kind of odd here. But thanks to you and your channel I will admit you are the man that made me get back into keep up the good work. Happy hunting this year since you dont need luck when you shoot as well as you. Thank you!!!!
Thanks for all the information in this video! I recently bought my first Sitka products. I went with Fanatic Jacket, Bibs, and Hoodie. Was thinking the same way you mentioned here about using the Fanatic bibs with lighter layers up top when it’s not too cold. So while I was thinking that, the Black Friday sales started so I grabbed a Stratus jacket too. I have a lot of base layer stuff already so I guess next piece will be Stratus pants. Thanks again for the video, it seems my thinking was along the right lines according to everything you said. Hope you have a good rest of the season!
Absolutely love the traverse hoody I can be comfortable in it with just a basic hoody under it in 30 degree weather. On colder days I’ll put my dakota hoody over the traverse to stop the wind.
my stuff: Early: traverse pant ,core light, core light long sleeve, heavyweight hoody, kelvin aerolite subalpine, Cold Weather: Equinox Hoody, Stratus Vest, Stratus Jacket, Stratus pants, various hats and gloves- Elevated II. Rain Cloudburst -Subalpine top and bottom. Meriwool base. I plan to layer the Kelvin aerolite during Extreme cold
Thanks Chris, as always quality video very informative. I started my Sitka collection last year and love it, but lost 60lbs and have to get smaller pants. I don’t have the stratus pants or hoody so I’ll get those for late October into November and go Fanatic for December.
I was able to get my hands on a couple Sitka sets because I got 40% off everything. The quality is excellent, but I personally don’t believe it’s worth the retail price. I wore Huntworth previously and it’s just as warm, light as Sitka for 1/3 of the price.
Yeah I used my guide discount and got 65% off a new set of stratus gear during the extra 10% off promo. Absolutely worth the money for me but I can understand why some people may not want to spend $800+ on a set
Chris, can you do a video on your clothing care regimen. Washing, drying, and storing. With Sitka in particular, everyone has a different method for washing and storing their clothes.
Hi Chris, I am 72 and have hunted all my life, including whitetail and all upland game living in Indiana and also many trips out west for elk, mule deer, black bear, etc. I have also archery hunted since my early 20's, so for 50 years or there abouts. I love all your videos on bows and other equipment, etc. I am shooting a Matthews Z7 Extreme at 60 lbs and am still a very good shot comfortably out to 40-50 yards. I have had my share of episodes of target panic over the last couple years, and I think your video on that is very good. I shoot a thumb release and am considering switching to the release you shoot, hoping that may help as well. I have also considered switching to a crossbow of course, but still think that is somewhat cheating. I wonder if switching to a new bow like yours this year could help with letoff and other issues? Anyway, I have gone through numerous hunting outfits over the years of course and so much has changed. I used out west and still have a Sitka outfit from probably the 90's when they first come out. I am looking for a new outfit now and enjoyed this video a lot. One thing i did not see you talk about, though, was rain and wet show protection with all your Fanatic and other Sitka pieces. So what do you recommend and use? Thanks.
Great video with explanation of gear. I’m new to hunting and just started purchasing some Sitka gear specifically the Traverse hoody and bids which I absolutely love. Looking to get more Sitka gear. Thank you Chris!
What a Genius idea with the camp booties. I will b trying that in single digit temps this year. I have a great pair of mountain hardware down camp booties that would work great.
Chris i need this answer before noon. I just destroyed my chill r. Over the weekend. 2 weeks till season opener. Which multi pin sight that had the range adjustment on the fly would you suggest. Going on a v3x 29
For November in Wisconsin, would you go with the Stratus set or the Fanatic set? I would be wearing the Equinox Midi pants and the Fanatic Hoody + Ambient jacket. Thanks so much!
I got all Sitka gear and never and I mean never bought expensive hunting clothes. Most of the clothes I was wearing were old as you k ow what. The trick is wait till after hunting season or for sales. I picked up my jacket, pants and base layers for less than 500. Expensive yea but I don’t plan on buying any hunting clothes for years. Guys go out and buy a 2000 dollar bow or a 2000 dollar rifle and cheap hunting clothes. They have definitely made a difference in warmth. Best clothes I’ve bought. Also bought some nomad clothes they are great to. Sportsman’s warehouse had 60-70 percent off after hunting season last year to make room for this years new products. Just have to look around and be patient.
Look at pnuma, day one camo and first lite especially for base layers. U need wind proof if u stand hunt and good layers above. King of the Mountain wool is premo! 100% wool and does not "smell". Predator camo is top notch too!
I like Sitka clothes, tried each system on in stores. I like the camo patterns and the make and fit of the clothes. Like that you get more warmth with lighter clothes but only the price tag holds me back. If i can find some deals like 30-40% off then I’d get em.
@jdp5802: Never knew that, thanks for the info. Seen a couple sites that had them from 20% off all the way up to 70% but not sure if they’re Knock off sitka clothes or not.
Thanks for all the info. What is the warranty on Sitka gear?Fanatic jacket starting wear on the back from leaning against tree from sitting in lock on stand .
Great video I believe in these products as well. Thought a new video idea could be a what's in the truck. Just go through what all you take with you to camps and what you like to transport your bow in. I have been trying to find something to protect my bow on the travel from sight to sight. Just thought you would have a good idea for this and best cases for a Mathews along with what all you travel with.
The incinerator series is the warmest it has the the gold primaloft insulation. The fanatic has the sliver. Im sure they are negligible at best as far as warmth but just saying. Just got my fanatic jacket but the sent me a lefty so I'm sending it back but I'm pleased with it so far. I'm going to order the pack and bibs soon too. I'm preyy psyched for this season
Currently rocking equinox hoody, fanatic hoody, first lite kiln baselayers and equinox pant comfortable down to about 40 degrees. Looking to add fanatic jacket or bib next to get keep me comfy down to 15. My current set up im just usually a little chilly. But hands and face are always the worst.
Agreed, I want to move to all Sitka gear, just received my stratus jacket, what other pieces should I focus on getting first, all whitetail pattern of course.
I’m 14, my dad had it before me and that had made me want the gear, just before last season my parents had surprised me with the status bibs and jacket, now wanting to get some of the fanatic gear
Hey Chris (or anyone with sitka experience), I hunt in south Texas where its pretty warm (90+) through the first half of season. I currently have a set of red head camo, but its a little warm for early season as it doesn't have a ton of breathability, and its to cold (45 and below) for late season. I've only worn it for two seasons and there is already quite a bit of fading in my pants. Im a college student and don't want to break completely break the bank. But what would you (or anyone) recommend for early season (something light and breathable) and also late season (something that would keep me warm in 45 and below). I do want to add that I'm hunting on a property with MLD tags and put in 80-100 sits a year so I'm looking at sitka as I know it'll last for multiple seasons without fading like my current set. Thanks.
Start with the core lightweight hoodie and merino core light weight bottom. This is a great start to your system and a excellent base layer. They are designed to wick away moisture from your skin and will provide some sun protection as well. Then as you build your layers you’ll be able to add warmth, and maintain your sweat (as long as your other layers are breathable too)
im in NE Oklahoma and early season through end of October I will wear nomad stretch lite pants and shirts. Probably the most comfortable pants ive worn...
Chris, thanks for putting this video together. I was just telling my wife about the fanatic jacket for bow hunting, and how much I wanted to know more about it. Low and behold you have this video that comes out so I appreciate it. Thank you very much. Love what you’re doing love the content.
I’ve been trying to explain the camp booties/mountain climbing booties to people for a couple of seasons now. So much better option than anything else. I’ve had really good luck with the 40 below booties.

Chris just recently purchased the traverse pants would you say they are thinner then your equinox? Wanting the perfect pant for early season in ga onto later season into early November.
What do you like more. The tool bucket or the fanatic pack. I’m tore between the 2 and it’s a hard decision. I don’t want to pay 209 and regret that I didn’t pay 40 bucks more for the tool bucket.
Over priced for sure. But not overrated. The features they add really are awesome. The fanatic jacket is better than the first lite sanctuary. Features are just better. I run the first lite and skre jackets. Wish I had the fanatic my dad has
X2 on the fanatic pack, climbing up the tree and in the stand I felt like I was a windchime with all the buckles hitting the stand. Picked up the fanatic pack for this season, definitely should be quieter.
the fanatic is a great setup but not their warmest gear thats reserved for the incinerator line. but you need to be hunting Canada in January to need that warmth.
More of a Bib guy myself. Just picked up the Traverse Bibs for when it's not cod enough for my Fanatic Bibs. Has anyone tried these yet? Warmer or colder than the Stratus Series?
