The questions are who and why ? Less business needs less workforce usually but the chinese - american differences inside dji are the hotspots we should pay attention cause that is the really serious part of clashes of cultures. American will emphasize freedom while chinese are starting cover activities and fooling customers that data are safe. American employees have to fear consequence for violating american law while the chinese simply follow the blind loyalty to the company and no fear cause in case of trouble they leave and go back home. And dji has a long track record regarding issues to respect laws, regulations and rules - at least in their software cause every now and then apple and google rules had been ignored and mostly after they had been warned not only once. The software has not been compliant and therefore banned. This is the serious part for all in the west But DJI sales in america suffered already for years under * the arrival of the import customs * the business ban from agencies * new regulations. If they can not sell drones and services to government and agencies and fire departments then it is clear to reduce the workforce there. And if you do not have any growing market segments then you need to reduce your workforce. This part is just the result of business and markets, nothing to worry about. The current stuff might be the core stuff needed to keep the operations afloat at the level before. Hopefully the dji support, the care and repair centers and its service levels do not suffer from all these cuts. Will the Biden administration stop the ban for agencies and drone customs then the dji sales might increase again, which will lead to more employees, at least the repair department cause drones crash sooner or later and need a repair. But they might have lost the strategic eye on how to deal with US agencies and their needs cause you can not operate such tasks from china alone. Chinese companies shoot themselve in the knees and that is their achilles heel cause you can not trust them or rely on their compliance - without strict control.
DJI lay off is expected considering the current anti China climate in the US. The government putting them on the entity list, removal of dji drones in government agencies, and other efforts to stop dji's dominance. The growing commercial drones market that dji wants to tap into may not be smooth sailing anymore. I think dji lost trust in the us market in general.
Woah. I would think DJI would want to have more people in North America especially while the US gov't has cracked down on them? Maybe the R&D lead leaving had them concerned the remaining team is a "risk" and would leave and take sensitive details to competitors like Skydio? Hard to say but protecting market share is very critical. Are they cutting off their nose to save their face? Time will tell.
Thanks for the comment Chuck, on the other hand perhaps it's left a sour taste in the mouths of the Chinese management team, hence the pull-back of American resource.
@@Droning-ON maybe so. DJI needs to stay engaged with America more now than ever. I've seen the like of IBM tumble to a competitor by letting the guard down.
Greetings from Norway. Great info. Sorry, am new to this, but is there a drone on the market that don't have Chinese parts produced in China? Has Autel and Skydio drones US/Europe parts only? In general the business model "flag out" or move production etc, is a global phenomena. It's simple, mmm, make more money.
I dont think it makes a huge difference to us as a consumer, the political wrangling however will make a difference. This will play out on the big stage, and in the end it will boil down to the American government and the American consumers....the question tho, are they ready to switch to autel yet?
DJI are users. They have from the start of building a quadcopter empire. They have used Americans and then dropped them once the Regime has got what it wants in that area of expertise.
Well, US consumers made the most of DJI as well, it's been reciprocal that's for sure! And remember that the American government dropped DJI, not the other way around.
well this is not good, you can tell they are trying to develop stuff in china, the FPV app is umm lets say clearly voiced by a Chinese guy. I suspect been put on the US blacklist has not helped. Feel sorry for these guys
But you really believe that any viable competition for DJI will rise from the USA? If it was even slightly possible, it would have happened years ago. No current US manufacturer can get close to DJI for range, feature, price, reliability and global reputation.
@@Droning-ON actually I think US won't not by its self. Working in collaboration with others countries or maybe other countries will succeed doing the same with out the US. Time will eventually tell. No one can stay on top for ever.

As long as DJI maintains a clean honest to goodness business ethics, this company will continue to lead the industry. Just my opinion.

There are some drones such as Skydio which is built in the USA, however many of the components are still manufactured in China.

Good man!
Is this a finger to the US goverment for the ban on Chinese products. They are welcome to Norway if they pay good😂
That's absolutely a possibility, not sure if DJI would be happy about the cost of offices/people in Norway, that would half their revenue :)
@DroningON yeah thats right, not cheap in Norway
Howdy Ash, thank you for these updates. Yes, this may cause many problems for their US supply chain, repairs, and pricing. We shall see? Take Care.
Thanks SC! Nice new name!

Whit the new administration in US things may change, cheers.
We can only hope so, because this isn't building relationships by condemning an entire country and its manufacturers.
