In all honesty, being denied housing due to a screwup from a background check agency is something you could at least file a complaint over. Your criminal records are literally public record, and your application should have had more than enough information for them to find your specific records accurately unless you failed to fill it out correctly.
A lot of people from my experience don't put their full middle name on various forms, though this is a very very rare situation this man is in where his 'evil double' was apparently stalking him from X place to Y place.

From my experience (with admittedly very formal, management company style apartment leases) the landlord will require your Social Security Number on the app to make sure the credit/background checks are accurate, but looking through my old documents it seems like many places don't ask or will look the other way if you choose not to provide it.

@@jackeldridge1319 I mean, I feel like this is more on the background agencies part than the landlords. The landlords higher the agency to do a background check so that way the landlord doesn’t have, so it’s the agency that screwed up not the landlord.

Believe it or not, I’ve had this same issue. A guy who has my same first and last name, and middle initial, lived within 20 miles of me growing up, so we often affected each other in brief ways such as school computer usernames, trampoline park waivers, or random people who thought I knew their friends but who I didn’t because they were thinking of the other guy. I never met him, but I know he’s there, and I’ve always wondered if something like what you described could happen to me as a result

This happened to my friends dad. He was just shopping with his wife and kids and they were really little so he had a baby bottle which he put in his pocket. The kids went into the game room to play and not too long after police officers come in and surround him. They ask him to put his hands up and demand what's in his pocket and he reaches for it and they freak out. He's just like "its just a baby bottle!" His wife is also freaking out wondering why there are cops surround her husband. Turns out there was a criminal in the area with the same exact name and somewhat similar features. So now he has a funny story to tell about how he threatened police officers with a baby bottle 😬
Something similar happened to the mother of a friend. She lives in a town with another woman and they have they same name. But then the mother changed her last name when she got married but they're still getting confused.
One day, she asked for a loan at her bank to buy a car and they denied, 'cause the other woman was in debt. She tried to explain, that they both are different persons but in the end she still didn't get the loan

I think the real crime here is that it appears he’s going for 100% but I have yet to see any signs of any of his items being upgraded. How has he gotten this far into the game (you literally have to talk to Gondo to progress the main game at one point!) and still hasn’t realized that’s a thing?
OMG a similar thing happened to my brother. He got denied a job because another person with the same first and last name also applied, had a huge criminal background. they were even born in the same month but had different middle names.

A coworker of mine initially (they got it sorted in the end) got denied the job for the same reasons pointcrow got denied his housing application.
They got the wrong name and a different person's bg check.
At least it got sorted in the end. Still stupid it happens at all.

My best friend had the same thing happen to her, just I think the other person has the exact same name. So she was told it was something she was going to deal with for probably the rest of her life.

I still keep getting calls about some other person that has the same name as me, but still these people dont check locations, because ive never lived in those place like the other girl did... When I got in, she asked me wtf happened, if I was pulling her leg, because last time I was there I was complaining about being malnourished and too skinny. Turns out, it was another dude with the same first and last name, and same birth year XD
