    Love the conclusions you came up with Jenova and the Gi tribe with the effigies and the different colors of the lifestream, also how Aerith was the one who put the black materia in Cloud's pocket as well as obscuring the rest of the party from her being saved in one timeline using the white whispers.

  • @Hushoo

    That blue and yellow lifestream differentiation is such a cool catch. I also like that connection made between the Gi and Jenova being made here, though I'm not sure they're accomplices as much as they are simply not of the world. But the best part of this summary, IMO, is Aerith's characterisation. She's kind of like a religious zealot that's stuck in their rigid way of thinking because it's the only thing they know of. Really good stuff

    From the bottom of my heart thank you for the perceptiveness and clairvoyance shown in the vid, especially regarding Aerith’s role which i find ridiculously downplayed in by most narratives about the game’s analysis. People just really seem to have an issue with her being an equal nemesis to sephiroth even tho most of the game’s iconography and her dialogue in ffremake point to that. I would love to see a video from you diving even deeper into her character and her subversion or the manic pixie trope through becoming one of the most potent characters in the game beyond her role as character catalyst for cloud which i find reductive and at times misogynistic. :/

      A lot of the theorists are hyper-focused on Aerith being a wonderful angel who can do no wrong trying to stop the big meanie Sephiroth, and they're mostly other men.

    I always found it interesting that they changed that one Aerith line in Remake's ending. I beat it within a month after release (or close) and she originally says "the steel sky... I miss it." But they changed it to "the sky... I dont like it."
    It went from her being scared of the change from Midgar to the open world, to her feeling like something is definitely wrong.

    Great video. While I don't know if I agree with it, and I have reasons for thinking the developers intent for remaking the game like this is probably different from your interpretation, you brought up some points I've never seen anyone else bring up before, like Aerith actually giving Cloud the black materia, the different colors beyond just green and rainbow, the Gi having a different end game than what they claim, and Aerith potentially hiding her body from the party with the white whispers.
    My interpretation of the purpose of the remake trilogy is more so related to Cloud's hidden mission of saving Aerith, and I say hidden because the evidence actually exists not just in the trilogy but in all the other games that involve FFVII characters like Dissidia. Basically some future version of Cloud somehow gave his past version some memories, perhaps his strongest memories after the rest were faded by the lifestream, hence why Cloud sometimes sees glimpses of the future like Aerith leaving the sleeping forest by herself or Aerith at the altar, often triggered when he's around her and sees her performing actions that remind him of those memories (e.g. Aerith taking the lead in going through sector 6 to get to sector 7 while Cloud watches paralleling the sleeping forest memory where she heads off by herself, Aerith praying paralleling her praying at the altar before she dies). It's also why this time, he was able to act to block masamune instead of just standing in shock like in the OG. He knows it's going to happen, whether consciously or not, and is able to react more quickly this time. Whether he'll actually succeed in saving her remains to be seen, but I think it's the main purpose of the remake trilogy. There's a series of essays including a very thorough music analysis on Reddit that have convinced me, though I'm not sure the person would want me to share them here.

      Yeah, there could be a future Cloud. But, when he thinks the tear in the sky is "not real," when we know it's supposed to signify a side-world being unstable, it seems he doesn't have very good knowledge of the meta of what is going on besides what Sephiroth showed him.
      There is that moment in the church where some version of himself speaks to him, and in the original we see Cloud's inner child self trying to guide him. It's hard to say whether all that is from the future or not.

    Can I add something? When you're talking about the different "essences" in the game, you said something to the effect of blue being a power amplifier, and that sparked a connection for me. Green, Yellow, Red, Blue, and Purple are the five major colors of materia. Blue enhances the power of green, like you were saying, and purple enhances the user directly-like J-cells and SOLDIER. The Gi are implied to be alien, and Red materia calls forth summons from other worlds. Think there's anything there?

    • @VicM88
      @VicM88  День назад

      Yeah for sure. Yellow is "Command," sort of like "will" or spirit. Green is Magic, i.e., Enhanced Will.
      Whether it's that different personalities manifest as different colors or different worlds predominantly feature one aspect, not sure. During Bugenhagen's planetarium, the spirits of plants and animals had multiple colors within them, but for some reason green became the dominant of this planet's and red or purple became dominant in the Gi's.
      Exactly why that it, would be interesting to find out.

      @neoncaelum 20 дней назад +1

      @VicM88 I also don't believe that she saw the materia at the bottom because she's a good 20-30 feet from the edge of the bridge in front of her, and as we know, the bottom of this trench goes pretty far down, father than even the surrounding "ground level".
      I just replayed this portion and the angle she looks surprised at isn't even close to the angle it would require her to look that far down. In addition, if she WERE to look at that angle, she'd be looking at the stone right beneath her feet because as I mentioned, she's pretty far away from the edge.
      If looking straight forward is 0°/360°, looking straight up is 90°, and straight down was 270°, she would need to be looking down at least 300° to see the bottom. In that moment, she's barely looking at most 330°. It just wouldn't make sense to be seeing the bottom of the ditch when she's still mostly looking forward with a very slight downward angle.
      This particular point, I'll have to call cope on. It's a really big stretch.
      I think it's safe to say there's a possibility she found another materia at the bottom when they fell, but to say it's because she saw an orb is major cope. She physically wouldn't be able to see it.

    • @VicM88
      @VicM88  20 дней назад

      @@neoncaelum I mean, obviously she knows it's there because she is a Cetra and is being guided to it either by the lifestream or her "future self." We have examples in Remake of Aerith knowing more than she should. When she recognizes who Sephiroth is, when she calls Jenova the "source of everything," when she tells the whispers there is a "much bigger threat" in her old room. She is able to teleport from tree to tree in the Sleeping Forest. She communes with the Lifestream outside and inside the temple.
      Of course she doesn't physically see it with her own eyes. She senses that it is there. It's not a stretch at all.
      She certainly could be looking something like 300 degrees. We can't see how far down her irises are. You can look down 60 degrees with your head completely level facing forward.

    • @VicM88
      @VicM88  19 дней назад

      @@neoncaelum Hard to say. She probably loses some of her future knowledge, but even the rest of the party still knows what the Whispers are, for example, when Cloud refers to their experience in Midgar at the Forgotten Capital. They didn't forget everything that happened. Red says something like he lost the inherent knowledge of the Whispers, but he still remembers them and what they are. They are still on the same path to stop Sephiroth and somehow Cloud knows that the whispers now belong to Sephiroth instead of fate or destiny.
      Aerith certainly doesn't lose her connection to the Lifestream. Even before they enter the temple she asks if they get a pass because she is half Cetra but they tell her she doesn't because she is only half.

    I also had the conclusion by seeing Sephiroth saying "Those who look with clouded eyes see nothing but shadows" sound like He knew Aerith had done fate changing from a yet undisclosed timeline/dream into the OG ending, As Sephiroth thinks Aerith have done it wrongly and let me do it right as Remake/Rebirth goes. Also I fully agree that Aerith tried to keep herself "died" in order to keep the OG ending going, although I only think it's the best "ending" she can imagine and gets and do not have further assumptions.
    I think of these in terms of shipping perspective while the so-called undisclosed timeline/dream (maybe the "world accepted its fate" aka Aerith's dream?) is where Tifa was truly killed by Sephiroth at Nibeleim Incident when she's 15, and in that world Cloud eventually controlled by Jevona as Robed Man (North Crater Sephiroth didn't need to wake up at all). For some reasons Aerith found this turning point and decided to "cheat" and ultimately made Tifa survived and Aerith replaced Tifa to die instead due to Karma, just the fact that she can't help her feelings to fall in love with Cloud during the change, and that's why She tells Cloud not to fall in love with her because she's supposedly not to (She thinks it should be Tifa's job as she's the one that brought the true Cloud back), and she'll remains the status like that in AC as well.
    But because of the change Cloud completely crushed his mind into Aerith, and years after the memory have sticked into his mind, all timeline/dream of Cloud have feel the Hollow, and eventually he'll do his best and become strong enough to destroy White Whisper to bring Aerith back alive (Obivously this is not in Aerith's expectation) and made her realized who said it has to be in Cetra's way to win the game. Cloud will replace Aerith to move on to Lifestream in the same type of Karma. As of Tifa, since she've become a powerful woman after she surivived from Nibelheim Incident from fate changing, will going to find her meaning of life as we already saw her being decisive to safe the planet aftering falling into Lifestream (Rebirth Chapter 9), and eventually she'll found the truth and reasons she'll move on to Lifestream (replacing Zack?) to follow Cloud and fight the Omni-Sephiroth. As of Aerith after she back alive, will summon Holy in FULL MIGHT and destroy the meteor or whatever Jenova related stuff. In simple words, Aerith/Zack will swap with Cloud/Tifa as Aerith/Zack in reality world and Cloud/Tifa in Lifestream.

    idk if i'd characterize Aerith as being the one who isn't open to different possibilities. Isn't she the one who wants to choose to make a new world different than the OG where everyone ends up happy? And doesn't Sephiroth have that one moment near the end of the game where he tells Cloud that he wants to collapse all of the realities down into one for him to destroy/have control over?

    • @VicM88
      @VicM88  3 дня назад

      I go through this more in my 4 hour vid. You should watch that.
      Aerith urges forgetting and forgiving the past and looking towards the future, and Sephiroth says a very similar thing. When he talks about his "Birthright," it seems like he is countering the Cetra's narrative. And, when he wants to unify all the worlds into one, it removes the ability for fate to screw with his and other peoples' actions for some sort of biased result.
      Aerith most likely encourages forgiveness because she wants forgiveness for what the Cetra likely did to the Gi and their homeworld, and also forgiveness for her goal to try to annihilate Sephiroth's and maybe even their essence.

    I still see it as the og story but with the lifestream expanded lore. The yellow lifestream represents memories, from thise whi died that goes to the lifestream, when those merge with the flow of blue, pure spiritual energy they make the green, a fuller and rich lifestream.
    Because both gi and jenova are not from the planet their spiritual energy is purple, so it doesn't blend with the planet, thats why sephirot couldn't merge, and is suspended in it.
    The edge of creation is sephirot world within it, every soul has its own world in the lifestream, Sephirot is that rock because Jenova reached the planet in it. Also the uktimania explains that those nebulas represents the creation and inception, one on each side. And ever crisis kinda shows that Sephirot plan is to save the memories of those he could not, and preserve those forever, by becoming its god he will preserve those souls in their "death" worlds and not let them rest and forget or be forgotten. Even aerith in rebirth remarks how nothing is forever and he says he will make it be.
    So 7 seconds till end is the time Sephirot has till he is gonne and starts losing a sense of being, but cloud keeps him alive by nurturing his memory, and that stops his world from being destroyed. Thats why he keeps reminding him to hold to the hatred.
    By calling meteor he intends to absorb all worlds, so all memories and keep them alive within him.
    Aerith world is the white boudless sky, it appears in remake at some point but you can see when she fights alongside cloud in rebirth ending her "world" blends with Sephirot "world, as she is trying to protect cloud from falling into sephirot hand and become the puppet sooner. She was afraid of the boundless sky because her own world is boundless, unending.

    The concept that they are using is the same as FFX, is not the multiverse is a dream. I would say that the "worlds" that we are actually seeing, playing are inside the lifestring and are made of the people dream, experience, memories, etc. These memories can have a "phisical" representation the same as FFX with Tidus That why red said that the materia is made by memories of the people in the costa del Sol. So you can see that the concept that they are using are actually more spiritual and related to the death and memorys.
    That also would explain why they didn't just resurrect Zack from nowhere, since he is currently living in the lifestring.
    Guess the rest can be deductible from these fact, even we could say that we are actually playing in a dream that are in the lifestring since these is an remake. That could be very insteresing, the devs knowing that this is a remake not the OG, that also will justify the whisper and their role to make the "memory as much as possible as the OG.
    Guess that the from OG Aeris is the last one who appear to help cloud to defeat Sephiroth

    • @VicM88
      @VicM88  2 дня назад

      Yeah maybe, but I prefer to believe what Sephiroth shows us about these actually being alternate worlds constantly separating and rejoining.
      How real or impactful they will turn out to be is yet to be determined.
      FFX was great and I think the whole Tidus being a dream really hit home well in that game. But I don't think there is a parallel here, really, especially with Zack, because Tidus being generated from a dream was a surprise, wheras we know Zack doesn't belong alive, and he has not yet had a significant impact on the main timeline world.
      I think the whole "this is a dream" thing by Aerith and that random npc are misdirections.

    Aerith taking down Sephiroth in this theory is interesting. I just find it hard to come to given her character over the last 27 years, especially in the temple speech about how it's the quality of forgiveness and move on that prevails. Though I would agree they have set themselves up in a trap (or conversely a self-perpetuating franchise hook) that it's almost impossible to fully "kill off" Sephiroth after AC. Unless Cloud has to die, which hey, may be how this story all ends anyway.

    • @VicM88

      Yeah my 4 hour video goes into that more. And my next one will too. Aerith urging others to forgive and move on could be because the Cetra were actually pretty shitty people and screwed over the Gi in the past. So, she is urging forgiveness because that is what she wants for the Cetra, and herself, since she is trying to delete Sephiroth for good.

    "Blue lifestream is likely a power amplifier" this doesn't seem very likely to me.
    If the colours are significant than I would expect them to represent different concepts.
    With blue being shared between Gaia and Gi/Jenova, then Blue likely represents sentience or the soul, while Yellow is Gaia's planetary/natural signature, and Red is Jenova's.
    This would fit with the blue energy being present during character moments, and Yellow signifying 'alternate world transitions'.

      Why not? We are told many times that the promised land holds some special power. Aerith had to go to the promised land to summon Holy, and Meteor had to be used up there too. Maybe it's not a power source but something like a completion of the idea implemented into the materia.
      Yeah colors representing concepts and personalities could be a thing, but there is still the question or possibility that those concepts have some sort of real material impact on the world. How would that impact manifest? I don't really buy into the idea that "Sephiroth is farming bad emotions" and theories like that. Too vague and detached.

Also purple materia is "manipulating". It manipulates your stats or chances of outcomes (luck, dodge, block, front/back row manipulation, luring chocobos etc. also looking at OG purple materia). So even the purple materia does line up with this theory with Jenova with the prominent example of a manipulating force at large. Also lines up with Sephiroth's purple aura while absorbing (as in manipulating the energy) of meteor. Probably some meta take on what will going to happen with Meteor's appearance in P3.

    but why are you assuming Sephiroth wants Cloud to defeat him? especially if he hates Aerith so much?

    • @VicM88
      @VicM88  2 дня назад

      My longer theory addresses this better.
      Several reasons. The first is that it still fits into his plan. He expects Aerith to be manipulating Cloud into attacking him at the Northern Crater because he with the Gi is baiting her into it. Why? Probably because it will trigger something like the combing of red in the materia with the blue in the north to revive the Gi.
      2nd reason, he is trying to get Cloud used to his will to fight, including tapping into his "righteous rage." Sephiroth knows that because of what he did in Nibelheim, Cloud is going to hate him for a long time. He accepts it, because Seph, Jenova, and the Gi are also extremely angry with the Cetra. Kadaj says several things in AC that point to Jenova being a force of retribution for something the Cetra/humans did.
      3rd reason is because of how at the end of AC, Cloud said, "there is nothing I don't cherish." After OG, Sephiroth accepted he was a monster, spawned his black wing, and intended to inflict pain in AC. In OG, the reason he bought into Jenova's manipulation and lies that she and, therefore, he was a Cetra, was because he couldn't accept he was a monster. Cloud saying he "cherished everything" was a potential bridge between Sephiroth's Jenova and human side, because he is of both worlds. I'm pretty sure part of his goal is to unite them so he doesn't have to struggle picking sides between the 2.

    My theory is that maybe...just maybe...the Unknown Sephiroth back in Remake, who somehow showed up at the end of Rebirth, is the one who kept Aerith alive. And I also think that this Sephiroth knows something's about to happen to his world, because I noticed a look of CONCERN in his eyes, when he looked up at the sky. So he knows that something is up. He knows that there's an even bigger threat and I believe that this is why he keeps asking for Cloud's help but Cloud refuses. I even think that this Sephiroth is trapped in the Edge of Creation by Jenova, with no way to escape, judging by the massive empty space surrounding him. If you go back to the scene again, you'll notice that Unknown Sephiroth is completely alone with no one around with him. I also noticed a HUGE personality shift in this Sephiroth's demeanor. He was calm and not at all aggressive like the one we've been dealing with in Rebirth, especially the one at the expressway with that evil look on his face with a smile.
    It surprised me that Unknown Sephiroth managed to STOP Cloud from killing him, too! WHAT THE HECK?!
    Here's some questions that I have about Unknown Sephiroth:
    1. Can we trust him?
    2. Is he a friend or a foe?
    3. Why is he asking for our help?
    4. What is his new goals if he's not evil?
    5. Did he travel to the Rebirth world to help Cloud?
    6. Did he open some kind of 'gateway' back in the Edge of Creation so that Aerith would be alive in the new timeline?
    7. Was Unknown Sephiroth the one responsible for keeping Aerith ALIVE while the Rebirth version of him killed her?
    8. Did Unknown Sephiroth sense Rebirth Sephiroth's plan to merge all the worlds to destroy the Planet?
    9. What does he know that we don't?
    10. Will he be the one to kill both JENOVA and his evil half?
    11. Will he help Cloud and Aerith in Part 3?
    12. Is the tagline in the first Rebirth trailer saying: THE WORLD WILL BE SAVED...BUT WILL YOU? speaking about trying to SAVE Sephiroth?
    I've been hearing A LOT of people say that they want Sephiroth DEAD. But we have to look through his eyes. This man has suffered a lot in his life, being lied to thanks to Hojo and Genesis and went through his life looking for inaccurate clues that would lead him to become the most evil man ever in the history of video games. Someone told me that Sephiroth won't get killed/destroyed and he might be moved to somewhere else once his troubled spirit is freed so that he can rest peacefully, and I'm PRAYING for this to happen in the next game and that maybe we'll have him as a friend.

      Yeah, I LOVE what they do with Sephiroth's facial expressions in Remake and Rebirth. Like after Jenova is defeated in Remake, he bows his head as a sort of relinquishing acknowledgement.
      There does seem to be something outside of the world that he is considering. Whatever this thing he shows Cloud at the edge of creation is, is going to be very important. I have some ideas about it.

      @@VicM88 That's what I've been trying to figure out myself. There HAS to be something outside of the world that has Remake Sephiroth so worried. I mean he wouldn't look like that if there wasn't any kind of danger in his world. And when do we hardly EVER see him act in concern like that? His facial expressions in both Remake and Rebirth are GORGEOUS! We'll just have to see what's going to happen in Part 3. His facial expressions, Square Enix did an absolutely beautiful job with those. In Rebirth I DID notice that Rebirth Sehiroth WAS smiling, so I think he WANTED Cloud to attack him. The only thing I can think of why he would bait Cloud like that was he planned all of this, so that Cloud could strike him. Either that or Remake Sephiroth opened some kind of gateway and wanted Aerith to live in the new timeline that I believe will be Remake's world but reborn.
      PS: Remember us seeing those rainbow lights in the Forgotten Capital? I highly suspect that it's Cloud's mind playing tricks on him. He BLOCKED the blade when Sephiroth swooped down to finish Aerith off, but when reality rears its ugly head, we see the truth: he did NOT block the blade, because when the scene switches, it reveals the truth: Sephiroth's sword did NOT get parried and blood starts pouring from the screen, meaning that Sephiroth DID kill Aerith FOR REAL. I've been trying to figure out that frustrating puzzle for YEARS!

      Hard to say. In Rebirth the sequence of events and how they unfolded was almost exactly the same, but the details show what is really going on is entirely different.
      The biggest thing is the 2nd temple. They go to a temple in both original and Rebirth, but if Rebirth's is a completely different temple, then they are in a completely different part of the world finding a completely different BM than originally.
      I don't know if they have made any kind of statement like that about part 3. It will probably be like p1 and 2. The sequence of events will be the same until at least mid-way through, with changes and additions along the way, then all of a sudden it will completely break from original, and a bunch of the smaller differences leading up to the late game will ultimately culminate in a much different story.

      It’s possible that this may just be the same story, albeit with a few flourishes added. But it’s also possible that a new story is being told, one that is different from the original.
