    I enjoy watching your videos. The cabin will be so charming when you are finished. I also enjoy watching the videos where the people have bought the old chateaus and fixing them up. I am a 79 year old grandma who lives in Virginia. These type videos helps us pass the time of day especially since the covid mess and we try to stay isolated. Good luck with your endeavors.

    Thank you for sharing your renovations and your positive thoughts for the future - it cheers me up here in Adelaide South Australia see how things are progressing in other parts of the world. My suggestions re the wrong color on the barn is framing the door and window in wood that you like in order to break large expanse of color and also to cover the differences in height of the window and door - plus of course grow the creeper but why only ivy - what about clematis or wisteria. Many best wishes Jenny

    It’s fun to see the progress, and everything is looking great Marloes. I think the door would look nice just sanded and sealed for a more cabin rustic look, but I know it’s hard to do that if you are a perfectionist too. Thanks for sharing the countryside and village with us as well.🐈 BTW… your cat is so cute!😻

      thanks! yes it is hard to find the right balance between "oh this looks so cool" and "O this looks very unfinished and cheap" :)
      Our cat... yes, she's adorable. She was asked to be an ambassador for some kind of cat's accessories brand on our Insta! We had to laugh, because she is like us: no fuss. She's not going to wear those horrible cat's jewelry :)

    Oh my goodness… the minute I saw that old door I was thinking… I would just sand off some of the bad paint and let it stay old looking. Slap on some poly and you are finished. 💕. Nice work.

      I knooooow! But I have to respect my husband's style as well :) So it will be painted white on the inside (bathroom side) and I am considering painting the other side a moody sage green. I love a more rustic style!

    So smart to reuse the old doors!

    • @FrenchCountryLife
      @FrenchCountryLife  2 года назад

      Yes they have so much more character and the quality is much better. It takes a lot of time finding nice ones that match the original ones that were in the house when we bought it. Especially ones that are tall enough are harder to find, as we are all tall and need at least 2 meters, preferably 2.05 or more and most old doors are 1.96 or so which wouldn't work for our renovations. But I enjoy finding them and have found about 8 already and we have plenty of time still for the renovations of our family's home and the future B&B rooms.

    Dearest Marloes , I am a firm believer in intuitive manifestation. There is a certain feeling one gets when visualizing and being transported through another's eyes. I watch and feel and just know my place is there in France. It feels as though I will be returning....perhaps a past life? ....You are blessed to live in such serenity and simple beauty. Reliving the past through sustainability for me is so important, bringing the past souls into remembrance. Merci pour votre sensibilité.

      Wow. Chills. Yes, please do come back. Many of us are being called right now to return to be where we’re supposed to be, to be keepers of the grounds. It is the only reason why we moved, many seem to find it a bit challenging to understand. It is also why we’re creating our refuge La Source the way we’re doing it now.
      I’d love to share a lot more about it but let’s manifest we meet in real life so we can share 💜 I too have a past life here, the story of how I have been called to this particular region and the synchronicities in how we found and bought the house are like a fairytale. Olav and I have been wanting to do a video about it for so long, maybe that would be a good creative project for the spring. I feel I have to share it, so I can show people the beauty of living life by following guidance. Merci pour ces partages 🙏💜 I feel the connection.

    The rusty window frame in the cabin is gorgeous just as it is! 😍 I think it adds a little masculine or industrial vibe and prevents the space from becoming too feminine. It's also a little nod to the French brocante style. The cabin's looking lovely so far.

      Yes agree! I have cleaned it and covered it in a special coating so it stays like this, with the rusty look and everything. I bought glass the other day that we're going to put in. I think it will be amazing!

    Your cabin is going to be very nice, but what I really love are the scenes of frosty mornings, twittering birds, and the quiet of the countryside. Your village of stone building looks like a storybook. Thank you for including so many scenes like that!
    Your artistic eye is always looking at color. Since it looks like you’ve matched your exterior to the stones very well, I wonder if all you need to do is break up the big expanses and sharply delineated edges of the new wall. Adding rustic country French shutters to the windows and rustic wood trim around the door and up the house corners may be enough to age the walls. Don’t you have some old boards in your barn? It would cover those white edges you hate and the house won’t seem so modern and boxy. I wonder how you plan to shield your protruding downspout from accidental destruction by distracted and inattentive passers-by (me).
    Love your videos.

    • @FrenchCountryLife
      @FrenchCountryLife  2 года назад

      Yes I agree, we may not need to make a lot of changes. I am currently trying to see the bigger picture with the summer kitchen that we'll create near the pool and how that design will work with the color of the wall. The downpipes are there now but that's only because we haven't replaced them yet. They will all go and won't be on the ground like this. The to do list is endless... but we're getting there!

    There is a difference between Boston Ive or Viginia Creeper and true Ive. The later is very intrusive to the joints of stone walls and is harmful. It is also evergreen and will retain moisture against the walls in winter. Boston Island has stickers and is easy to remove, it is also deciduous.

    Good morning! Everything is positively lovely. Please, please, please stick to your original plan of maximizing the visual impact of the tiny home space with the white. You must take into consideration the seasonal changes of surrounding foliage which will reflect in the sun. You are lucky to have such a lush environment...but the green may overwhelm when everything is in bloom. I would highly recommend you stick with the white or some very light grey variation. Go with something that would mimic the pale white-grey hue of the bathroom marble: classic! Just my humble opinion! 💟

    • @FrenchCountryLife
      @FrenchCountryLife  2 года назад

      Thank you! I see what you mean! Olav put most of the other siding up in the meantime and honestly: the white feels very cold and overwhelming. We’ll keep the ceilings white but will paint the rest of the siding probably. This green color by Farrow & Ball actually looks more like a light grey. So I think it will be okay but I will have to try and see… we’ll put furniture in and then see if we leave the white (see if it feels less harsch) or paint it French gray.
      Will share the result of course! Thanks again for sharing your thoughts!
