    The statement of saving ryo isn’t so much a taunt from the devs as much as advice for the second run so you know how to get the true ending without having to look up every detail to avoid spoilers since saving Ryo is the first domino to fall that leads to over events

      Given the fact you actually can get Ryo's affinity high enough you should be able to save him on a first run but it will fail anyway due to a programming check, it is more of a taunt then advice. 'You should have had their affinity higher... oh, you did have it high enough it should've happened? Too bad for you, NG+ is your only true option to save them!'

      @@jsol_03 the average player, is not me, I'm the sort of player who would like to get a perfect true ending run on the first run, with save scumming the hell of it if the game allows for it. • @JusaWanderer
      @JusaWanderer Год назад +2

      I can get that argument and understand that frustration. It being an option is probably the better choice buttttt...I honestly felt the "true" path was the most uninteresting one in the game. The deaths and tragic elements just add a layer to this game that no Digimon media has ever really done before. So I kind of get why the developers decided to go this route. It's like what would happen if Sora or Joe died in the OG show, and used that as a conspect. The feeling that something isn't going the "right" way.
      Ultimately the choice should be there from the start I can agree but I well say it worked on someone like me that decided to do all the other endings before the true one and kind of realize that the little extra depth you get outside of the usual anime stuff just isn't there. It's just another Digimon show with the stakes turned up a little. If they ever try to something like this again they should definitely give the choice but I disagree that the "true" path is the complete way to experience the game. The developers definitely wanted to showcase a story where things aren't always going to work out, but you need to keep moving forward.

    • @JusaWanderer
      @JusaWanderer Год назад +2

      @@CrobatmanIamthenight Meh. I like Ryo overall and get his character, so him being the catalyst to make sure everything goes the "right" way was a great narrative choice because out of everyone he definitely had the largest amount of baggage.
      Shujii can kick rocks for all I care. Don't care how sad or "relatable" his reasoning for the actions he takes. Don't put your trauma and take out your anger on other people. This can work for a villain or anti-hero because they have to work to change or get them to understand. The true path definitely made him more tolerable but unfortunately Ryo just kind of steals the show in showing why keeping him alive is actively great throughout the entire story. Shujii on the other hand is just kind of there with the dialogue going on about how he's changed but he's never given a chance in the story to fully showcase that change. I just found his arc and character done better in other mediums, hell Ken from 02 is just better. Overall the real goal with saving him is saving our boy Lopmon. Kid deserved better.
      With all that said this kind of reinforces why I feel the choice to restrict the ability to save everyone wasn't a bad one but definitely think think it's the better game design option to allow. People want to feel like their choices matter. I get that.

    • @NoraNoita
      @NoraNoita Год назад

      Good Visual Novels usually don't have the true ending unlocked after a NG+, there's no branching paths really, it seems either you do it right or you don't, paths are locked behind which of the three decision paths you choose, it's a bit lackluster.
      The biggest complaint is that you couldn't save Ryu and Shuuji at all, which is just a no-go for me, if I want a perfect game from the first playthrough, you should give me the option, forced deaths or failure state are just soooo annoying.
      I was trying to many times to redo the first part trying everything to no avail, like what's the point, it's stupid, it's terrible design.

    Digimon Survive is not for everyone. I really enjoyed the Characters. The story is a bit slow in the first 2 - 3 Chapters but it gets better along the way. The Translation isn't very good, but that's an issue in every Digimon Game sadly because they don't allow them to affort better translators 😔
    I played two Routes myself (Moral and True Ending) and plan on doing the other ones as well at some point xD
    If someone doesn't enjoy it, that's fine of course! Everyone is free to have their own opinion. I personally enjoyed it a lot. Not the biggest Fan of the Battles myself and I stopped recruting Digimon after a while because I just wanted to play the Story but yeah xD There are way more positive than Negative Stuff in the Game and I hope Bandai will put more faith into the Digimon-Franchise one day.

Locking true ending on new game plus is not bad game design it pro replay design if you ask me, that introduces you to the characters, tone of the game/world, adds tension to the story who going to die and introduces/explains characters issues. After finishing if you what a ending where everyone survives and all of them are very happy then you cane play it again later. Also many other japanease games do that also with new game plus locking Canon endings, gameplay modes, dungeons and other features.

They made Digimon Tri to continue the adventure story, a movie to that anime to continue it, and now a sequel series to it has been annouced. That's not counting the reboot adventure series that came out in 2020 either. So I do hope this game gets a sequel cause as you said it's great. But I'm hoping it doesn't continue this trend.

    Nice review, I havent beat the game yet but finding out that certain characters will die no matter what you do on the first playthrough felt.... a little weird and I lwas legit annoyed. Since its basically locked behind new game plus, and to save them you need a high friendship, and while I understand its like.... it they get saved IF new game plus is on, if its off even if you meet the requirements the game will still be like HAHAHAH LOL U DONT HAVE NEW GAME PLUS YET. I found this out before playing and I asked myself whats the point in even raising my friendship or interacting with these characters on my first playthrough if it ultimately doesnt change anything. I also felt like some choices were odd for what path they represented, like i saw choice where the wrathful option sounded nicer and more polite than the harmony option sometimes.

  • @JusaWanderer
    @JusaWanderer Год назад +6

    Overall I had a good experience with the game. I think I definitely kind of found more flaws to point out then expected, but it's nice to see the game fundamentally work even after all the development issues and delays.
    I really enjoyed this tale for a Digimon story. It's pretty unique for the series to pretty much make a anime series where "nothing goes exactly as intended" and you're facing the ramifications for that. It's an interesting feeling to have throughout a playthrough thst something "isn't right here". No anime as long as they still want to aim for a child audience would do what this story did. So the only real criticism I kind of have is even if I somewhat agree with the developers choice to not make it possible to save everyone first time through I can understand that being anti-fun for a lot of people that feel their choices don't matter. Also that I do think it's padded out in some sections. We don't need every little detail but the characters say the same thing they just said a scene ago. I guess while not negative pre say, I also was a bit disappointed by the true path being honestly way to straight forward and kind of bland. With that did I did enjoy see the other characters that didn't make it with their full personalities on display. Also I understand why it it would take a whole lot of variables to account for several different players but I do wish some scenarios played out differently or added a different aspect depending on which affinity you were more inclined too. You pretty much have to wait until chapter nine to get to new content and then you didn't get anything really new until the middle or end if chapter 10.
    When it comes to the combat I had fun and it's passable with one unique aspect being able to evolve doing battles. This makes this interesting as each Digimon has their own set of personal skills and I can see the amount if flexable your actions can have in battle. The game can definitely get easy on normal difficulty so the ability change it is appropriated. I actually lost a mon or two at times in battles if I was fully paying a attention but it's still possible to power through. As someone that has played a few tactics games I do think there is an aspect that keeps the system from reaching above average and that's probably because it was said that they actually held back ideas for a different game if the were to revisit this style. Seems they wanted to make a system that was easy to understand for people that haven't played many TRPGs and those more interested in the story. Kind of want to know what those ideas were...I can say that the extra courses that unlock after beating the game once do provided a bit of challenge for those looking for it. They start out pretty simple but start to get pretty crazy around the 20s. One map had two Plutomon's where I was doing pretty well at first, but one of them got a kill and it all went downhill from there because of their personal abilities. Also it showcased how annoying defensive units can be, just die please...I also think the could have give some mons just a little more movement. I get you want them to be different but hell some of them are floating in midair and cannon move more then two to three spaces. Mobility is always broken in these types of games but it's just needed at times here.
    If they every do a TRPG again I hope the can improve in certain areas but it was a good first attempt. I honestly don't care if it's accompanied by a visual novel or traditional game models storytelling style I'd like to see them do another one someday. Anyway if you're a Digimon fan of the OG series from Adventure - Tamers I'm sure you have a good time if you go in understanding the type of game it is. Now we wait to hear news on the next Story game and hope Bandai Namco gave the team the funds to make a truly great RPG. Hopefully to put more faith in the IP as a whole. It would be nice if we could get a game every two to three or so going forward.

    thing is that the game being a visual novel and applying the digimon "theme" is a cheap marketing move by bandai. the story could have been something else regarding teenagers that die in the process.
    also quality wise, its so poor when compare to other experienced visual novel producers that it doesnt justify the price. especially on your first run through, your dialog choices hardly matter. overworld navigation is honestly rubbish, very unpolished, just UI layered upon UI
    tactics system is mediocre at best. if just the tactics aspect release as a phone game, people would expect it to be free and you would have pay to win elements for bandai to make the money.
    sound wise i can take it or leave it.
    both visual novel and tactics system have low amount of animation, which leads to think what are you exactly paying for? 80hours of mediocracy?
    sure the storyline suck you in as you play. but once you take a break from the game, its hard to get back into it. the only thing was on my mind everytime i get back to this game is that i paid 60+ bucks for it, i better play the the shit out of it
