Good stuff. Love comparisons more than just plain reviews. Great content!
Thanks Bryan. They are fun to do. Glad u liked it.
What a cool studio you have, really nice
Great video, Steve! I have not heard the original to be fair, but this thing sounds ethereal. Btw, my jacket came pristine, and artwork matches the OG, so I’ll not complain about it. Happy with the record, I fund it a bargain
Thanks for watching brother. Glad u liked it.
Hey Steve! I'm a student at VFS, you toured me around before I started. Just wanted to say I love your videos!! You should make a video about your sound gear and what you use to listen to the vinyl.
Thanks Tanin. It’s one of many vids I will do this year. Glad u are enjoying the vids.
Nice review of the two different pressings. I don't have an original at all to compare this album to but it was digitally mixed so I was curious as to how the Mofi stacks up. I do have the Speakers Corner pressing which I am hoping to do a shoot out on.
Great stuff, Steve. I have a Canadian 1st press as well and happy with it. And yes the OG has superior artwork 😎
Thanks Rachel. Crazy that our Canadian pressing uses the German plates.
Yeah, but I think there are other examples where that's been done, Steve. 😊
Hi Steve and thanks once again for another great Mo-Fi review comparing to original 1982 album. Is it possible if you could play a few short samples from each album to give an idea of comparison? Also, are going to be reviewing any possible U2 Mo-Fi album reissues as it would be interesting to hear about some of their songs that have deep bass, such as on Mysterious Ways and With Or Without You would compare on Mo-Fi to original issued albums the year these songs were recorded. Thanks again handsome guy and have a most awesome day!!...Friends, Lloyd.
Keep the vids coming my man!!! Great job. Would love to have the details on the system setup that HiFi Center is letting you demo too. Thank you.
Thanks for watching Dustin. Here is the setup it was played on:
Pure Fidelity Harmony Turntable
Origin Live tonearm
Pure Fidelity Stratos cartridge
Sonus Faber Maxima Amator speakers
Aavik R280 Phono Preamp
Aavik I280 Integrated Amp
Torus Power RM20 Isolation Transformer and
Ansuz D2 Cables.
Good review thanks
Thanks Jan.
great review of that album man!! I've owned it in the past and I just wasn't a huge fan of it, but this was a wonderful video! ✌️✌️🙂
Thanks brother Rod.
The speakers corner version (which I have)comes from the original digital master. I did a video on my channel where I discuss some “issues”, especially with my DVD Audio version which was mastered using the backup analog master, but has some speed stability issues (I stacked it against a redbook version and they come apart at some point). The Blu-ray was also cut from the backup analog master but this time by Alan Parsons himself as he engineered the multichannel version. Ironically, he makes a comment about “baking” the masters before using them, probably referring to the dvd-A version
Good video Steve! I almost didn’t pick up the Mofi because my Speakers Corner copy sounded so good. I am glad I did because the Mofi blows it out of the water in every way. I didn’t think it was possible to sound so much better.
Thanks so much. Glad you enjoyed it.
No it doesn't lol. Don't get me wrong. The MoFi 45 is the best....by a HAIR. No need to overly justify your purchase. We all share the sickness :) It absolutely doesn't blow the S.C. out of the water. But it is the one to get if one only wants one great pressing.
@@TheMills567 I didn’t say the SP version sounds bad. To my ears the soundstage, instrument separation, dynamics, symbol decay, and overall tonality were a little bit better. The bass was quite a bit tighter and dug lower. In my opinion all those “littles” add up to a lot.
@@TheMills567 Jeez, relax man.. it's HIS choice just like yours is ...yours.
It’s digital hahahaha. Watching this unfold is just too damn funny.
Nice 👌 Steve. I have a UK original 1st press which sounds amazing.
The Mofi is more detailed, bass is boosted,no inner groove distortion or any sibilant problems of which maybe original can suffer from slightly.
Let’s not forget Mofi is at cut at 45 & is perfect.
But it’s a big but,my original has more magic, more transparency. more punch.
Finally there’s more value in the Uk Og.
Enjoying watching your channel grow Steve.Great content 😎
Thanks for watching Liam. Glad you are enjoying my channel. I am really having a blast.
Hello Steve. Internet has this extraordinary thing which is that one can follow any person in the world. I live in France (I'm French) and as I'm interested in high fidelity, RUclips suggested your channel. So, immediate subscription. As for Eye in the Sky, I have it on original vinyl, on CD, on DVD-AUDIO, on multichannel bluray, and finally on SACD (mofi). I have a preference for bluray because the multichannel experience, moreover produced by Alan Parsons himself, is extraordinary. Then the SACD because if I love vinyl, I always have the fear that it will arrive bent and damaged (it's almost the only way to receive them when it comes to imports), that it won't be not free from cracking and wear over time. So whenever labels like mofi offer both formats, I choose SACD. Question: at the sight of the listening material behind, there is no doubt that the differences are understood between the original and the version of mofi. Would this difference be as pronounced on less high-end one ? In any case, a 👍 for this video (as for the unplugged one by Eric Clapton)
Hello from Vancouver. Thanks for subscribing to my channel and I am glad you are enjoying it. I do all my shootouts using the following:
Pure Fidelity Harmony Turntable
Origin Live Conqueror Arm
Pure Fidelity Stratos Cartridge
Aavik S280 Network Music Player
Aavik D280 DAC
Aavik R280 Phono Preamp
Aavik I280 Integrated Amp
Torus Power RM20 Isolation Transformer
Ansuz D2 Cables
Ansuz D2 Network Switch
Ansuz Darkz D-TC Supreme (under speakers)
Yes. The equipment used does make it sound better.
Another Great video steve!
Nice Tragically Hip shirt! They’re criminally underrated.
I agree the Mofi is great, compared to the OG, but I’d really like to AB the speakers corner
I wonder how the LP compares to the SACD? Since we don’t for sure know the mastering chain, I suspect that the SACD is comparable.
Thanks Jefferson. I had the pleasure of being Gord Downie “Hips lead singer”partner while playing pool one night. He was a great guy. Was a blast. May he Rest In Peace.
Remember, that Chris Blair has mastered this recording digital on Sony PCM-1610 with U-matic tape only. So especially here, where the hell do the master of an AAA releases come from??
Hey Fellow Canadian, just to be fair it should have been compared to the Speakers Corner pressing. I have a Canadian pressing and the Speakers Corner pressing kills it. It would be interesting to hear Mofi vs Speakers Corner. Mofi is definitely more expensive. Cheers!
Another wonderful video Steve, so keep 'em coming my friend!
I have that original Canadian pressing as well and I've always enjoyed it. I bought the Speakers Corner reissue, and while excellent, I can't say I truly enjoy it more. The 45RPM Mofi in this video has me somewhat intrigued, but for the exact reasons you cite I can't bite on it. It's just too much money for an album I already have 2 good copies of. If it were The Turn of a Friendly Card I'd jump on it right away as I think it's a much better album. Obviously YMMV.
Thank you so much John. That is very interesting about your thoughts in the Speakers corner pressing. For the money my original sounds great but the MOFI it’s a lot to pay for us Canadians.
Great review Steve! I know you’re a SACD aficionado- would be interesting to compare the MoFi SACD vs the vinyl
Thanks Brad. I did not purchase the SACD but I am sure it should sound just as amazing.
Haha. Audio comparison and arts n crafts lesson! Right on
I have a 2012 MOV pressing that sounds pretty good (it's signed, so I'm particular to it). I would buy a one-step...
Interesting. What's on the deadwax? I have a 2016 reissue by Sony, no mention of MOV anywhere but there is MOVL in thr deadwax
@@mcflash23 probably the same.
It sounds absolutely incredible… one of my prized copies at the moment.
Thanks for watching. Yes. It sounds awesome.
I also have a Canadian copy VG+ in shrink when I got it. It sounds great but the MoFi is perfect. It really shines with Ortofon setup.
@@stevewestman7774 Dark sound albums are the best. The best remaster that I ever heard by far is, MFSL I Robot, much better than the original. The dark sound is the best that I have ever heard.
im just in awe of ur system. wow alan parsons wouls sound amazing. alan parson produced much. my fav is year of cat. al stewart
Hi
What’s the next mofi releases any news would be great
I was told 2 mores Eagles One steps on the way and a non one step CSN pressing.
Hey Steve, I also have the Canadian first pressing which I bought in 1982 from Sam The Record Man on Seymour not too far from your Hi-Fi shop ;-) It’s a great sounding LP. The Speaker’s Corner, which is their only digital processed LP, is my favourite. However, like you say, the Canadian pressing is a very cheap alternative. The Mo-fi to me just doesn’t sound up to the Speaker’s Corner release. Individual ears may vary ;-)
Hi Bobby. Thanks for watching. I love a lot of my original Canadian pressings. Very underrated and so cheap to buy. Love it.
Hey, thanks for the great deal of Information. I 'm writing you from Germany. My copy, is from Arista LC3484- (P) 1982; and yes, it is mastered by Mr. Chris Blair, but has written on the back side, right upper corner: "DIGITAL MASTERING", so I wonder, what about your Canadian Pressing? Can you take a closer look, maybe it's written somewere? Looking forward to your replying. :)
Hey thanks so much for joining my channel. I have my Canadian pressing in front of me right now. Nowhere does it say digital mastering. Interesting that your does. The digital master was recorded on the Sony pcm 1610 system. Thats what it says in the inner sleeve of mine and assuming all copies say that.
oh I like Alan Parsons but hope MOFI won't go down that place when they did hit and miss and we know what happened .another Great video as usual and wonder if those Van Halen cds from MO-FI SACD HYBRID will have a good sounding standard cd since i can't play the SACD
Thanks so much Mike. Glad u liked it. Yes MOFI’s hybrid cd layer sound great as I also listen to them in my car which is a non sacd player. But they sound even better on my SACD player.
@@stevewestman7774 Awseome I will seriously consider purchasing the cd through a local retialer Thank Youuu soo much for the quick reply
Is that an origin live tonearm?
Yes it’s a Pure Fidelity Harmony TT with a Origin Live tonearm and Pure Fidelity Stratos cartridge set up.
@@stevewestman7774 I have an origin live resolution TT with the illustrious tonearm. It’s a great product. Cheers

@@stevewestman7774 wow very very nice setup
Wouldn't it be easier to cut the Original Master Recording strip and paste it to the original jacket? 😅
Good one lol.
I had my headphones on waiting for the comparisson , but it didnt happen he he
Interesting that the Canadian original used the German plates.
Yes. It’s said made in Germany with it scratched out. Interesting.
It’s digital. So no wonder it’s punchier. It’s superior. Still love vinyl, but I’m cracking up at these “audiophiles” eating crow
Recorded on analog tape but mixed on a digital tape master
@@VIDSTORAGE so it’s digital…thank you for clarification. Vinyl is my #1 playback, but I’m sick of these “experts” saying AAA is always better. I prefer a good digital transfer to a shitty AAA version to be clear. Just can’t stand these boomers who think they have the golden ear when it’s 10000% mastering. You can make any digital file sound warm. If I can have warmer mids and crisper bass (which you can do with digital), I’m all for it
