    Its 2022,10 years after this video was uploaded that I come across it.I am a 20 year old Kenyan first year student in Engineering,and the kind of motivation that this has given me to continue working on a project i have is unmeasurable. Maybe in the next ten years it will be my project on a Ted talk in some foreign country by someone I don’t even know.✨Kenya to the world 🇰🇪I love my motherland🇰🇪

    11 years later and I found this video inspiring. I hope you have come back to Kenya, Mr Oswald. Today, very few Kenyans pay anything in cash, even in remote areas, in fact, its cheaper to pay through mobile money, MPesa than withdrawing the cash and then paying. Bank to mobile phones transfers are free... We don't say it but we are a truly cashless society. Again, necessity is the mother of all innovations.

    One time we had a trainer who flew from Germany to Kenya to train us and I offered to show her around town after training . She couldn't believe that I had in fact paid for our uber via my mobile phone. She was even more excited when I gave her my phone to do the transaction herself of paying for our bill at the bar . I don't carry paper money anymore. I pay for everything via my phone .

    Hi am a Kenyan currently visiting Swiss for 3 months, I thank God we have mpesa in Kenya coz that's how am paying my monthly bills from here. Am paying my house rent from my mpesa account(thank God I am on roaming) to my landlords account, paying my power, DStv, weekly support for my daughter's upkeep and I can access my bank account at anytime, coz I have downloaded the bank app. Without it would be very problematic for me, as here in Swiss they are very strict with Western Union, if you are not a Swiss citizen you are not allowed to send money to Africa, and if they let you do, you have to explain the source of that money and a lot of blah.. blah... blah. As the man was saying demeaned us"from the middle of nowhere people are sending and receiving money" Kenya is not "nowhere" it's a very advanced country in the ICT sector.

    I first watched this years ago and as a Kenyan, felt this overwhelming pride for what we have achieved. I recently re-watched it and something else stuck out to me this time: To sum it up in one sentence "In a certain way I admire them for what they are doing but on the other side I'm a little bit scared because believe it or not, in 5 years it could be possible that we need to go to Kenya and ask them for consultation". SCARED?? The elitism throughout this video! The utter disbelief that we, "the poor African country" could be doing it better than one of the "the top 10 richest countries" is staggering to him and his audience. wow.

    Why is he scared of coming to Kenya to ask for consultations? Sometimes in life even if you have all the resources at your disposal but you don't know how to use them 'eat a humble pie" and go ask for advise/consultation to anyone even if they have lesser resourceS than you n so is the reverse. You will never be the best at everything. Its called the Power of sharing.

    • @angangaus
      @angangaus 6 лет назад +7

      Richard Wambua I don't think he meant scared in the literal sense. He is Austrian and English is not his first language. More like he meant 'amazing, unexpected, surprising'.

    • @Msapere
      @Msapere 6 лет назад +4

      He was making reference to the abundance of resources that Austria has which seems to damp innovation. he raised it as a point of concern...maybe his wording could have been different, but I hope you got the general sentiment.

    • @alphonceodiwuor9858
