  • Hey viewers. As you might already know, roses don't perform well in the summer heat. It's been very hot here with the highs in the high 90s F. Most of the time my roses would be almost defoliated by now due to disease and insects. This year I've been experiencing with weekly organic spray for fungicide and insecticide, and it has shown promising result. I haven't used any chemicals for the past 2 months. Must spray thoroughly underneath the leaves.
Organic insecticide and fungicide for 1 gallon
    1lb garlic, 1lb hot pepper, 1lb ginger
    1/5 gallon of alcohol 70%
all blend together and strain before use.
    3 Tablespoons per gallon water
1 Tablespoon of plant-base dish soap (I use Method non-toxic dish soap)
Side Note: As you can see, many of the rose varieties have their blooms shrunk pretty bad while some didn't get affect much by it, such as Eustacia Vye, Bolero, Heritage, etc...

I know what you mean with the summer heat. Mine are somewhat taking a break now too.
I made the 511 mix for a few of mine this year and it really helped with disease. They didn't drop their leaves as fast, or at all in some cases, which really surprised me.

Always appreciate your videos. I bought a lot of my roses based off of some of your vids. I live in the Tennessee valley and a lot of my roses look just like yours, trying for that next flush.

Just curious if you’d allow locals to come tour your rose garden. I would be interested to come see and smell them all and happy to sit and listen to all you had to share.

Thank you and I'll try this. I have a good spray for deer that don't stink and is used on crops. Works great. I have tons of Lantana, Salvia, and other things they don't eat. But I'm stuck in a doom loop. I was lazy starting my spray program late. So when I spray my fungicide in the morning at the end of the day I'm spraying the deer spray. You inspire me and I've decided next year to pull my roses onto the porch and use air pots. Just one question.........Where do you get those things you put underneath your pots that roll? Thank You!

Are these all watered by hand? How often?

I kind of equivocate it to working out in the gym. The days you don't go, you lose the progress gained.
In my limited experience, watering each pot by hand for 40 to 60 seconds brings the best results, unless it rains. On rare cloudy or cooler days in the summer you can get away without watering and not lose gains.
The only bad thing... if you have 30 pots it takes about 30 minutes to do it properly. It takes a lot of work and love for roses to grow and bloom all summer in the Southeast like in this lady's garden.
