In this video, you’ll learn how to protect the acidic proton of an alcohol from strongly basic reagents like alkynide ions and Grignard reagents by forming the trimethyl silyl ether using TMS-Cl. You’ll see a detailed breakdown of the reaction and mechanism of the alcohol protecting group - TMSO and learn how to deprotect the alcohol with the use of tetrabutyl ammonium fluoride - TBAF.

I'm sorry, but I don't offer tutoring over social media. For help with questions like this and more, I recommend joining the organic chemistry study hall. Details: leah4sci.com/join or contact me through my website leah4sci.com/contact/
Hello Lea! Thank you for this amazing video. May I ask what apps do you use to create these short lectures?
You're very welcome! Let's keep the questions relevant to orgo please
Can we deprotect TMS using H3O+???
I believe that a strong acid in a THF/water solution would also work. But TBAF is the more commonly used method.
Hello, ma'am! I just wanna ask, when is the release of the alcohol reaction cheat sheet, as well as the practice quiz?
I'm sorry, but neither are in the works currently. I post free material as I have time. For more help with this topic in the meantime, contact me through my website at Leah4sci.com/contact or join my Organic Chemistry Study Hall at Leah4sci.com/join
@@Leah4sci I see. Thank you so much, ma'am Leah!
Ma'am can you make a video on the reaction mechanisms of Grignard reactions?
I do have a video on the Grignard reagent, plus an article and cheat sheet found at Leah4sci.com/Grignard
Brilliant
Love this stuff
Thank you so much
You're so welcome! Happy to help.
