    9 will always be my fav. Never heard of final fantasy before. When I was young my parents took me to toys r us and said pick a few things we will get you one. I saw the 4 disks and cover art and I was hooked. After playing the game, fell for the genre.

      The cover art is always so cool. I remember when 7 released, my cousin would play the heck out of it. We went to the store so he could get a new game, and I talked him into getting Saga Frontier, *simply due to the cover art and look on the back of the disc.* Otherwise we knew nothing of the game. It wasn't as big a hit with us as 7, but later on I brought it out again and got quite far, after beating all character stories but Lute, Asaylus, and I think Riki. Its got it's own type of charm, along with some pretty catchy themes and music. But it is it's own animal, in so many ways.

    I do a new run of FF9 at least once a year, and always go back to it whenever i'm feeling low. I think it still holds up so well today, even outside of my nostalgia googles, but I'd be so hyped to see a remake released and see other folks have the opportunity to meet some of my fav characters ever. Walking through a fully explorable Lindblum or Alexandria would probably bring me to tears not gonna lie lol

    FFIX was my very first Final Fantasy game. And for this, it’ll always have a special place in my heart. I have so many fond memories of this game. In retrospect, its strong and deep storytelling molded my perception about life in general. Funnily enough, right after this game, I played Final Fantasy Chronicles (FFIV and Chrono Trigger) and learned to appreciate IX even more because of the small subtle references to it.

      In the same regard, I think a IX remake would only require a top notch polish of the original with voice acting.
      They don't have to redo it all and turn them into action games. Let the new games be that if they must, but it's not necessary for remakes.

    FF7 has always been my personal favorite, but I consider FF9 to be the best game in the series. I see it as the truest representation of what "Final Fantasy" should be. Here's hoping the remake is announced after 16 and 7R part 2 release!

    • @saltyk9869
      @saltyk9869 Год назад +11

      I'm in the same boat as you. FFVII is my favorite game of all time. But I think there's a strong argument to be made that FFIX is the best in the series and the most "Final Fantasy of Final Fantasy". I'm not sure how I feel about a FFIX Remake, though. I'd adore a FFT Remaster. But if there were games in the FF catalogue that could use a Remake like VII, I would suggest II, IV, VI, and VIII. II and IV as they have strong stories for the early games that could be expanded and II could use the proper reimagining from a gameplay perspective. VI because it's up there with VII and IX in overall quality. And VIII because it's one of the black sheep and could use a modern Remake to be appreciated.

    • @jgkitarel
      @jgkitarel Год назад +2

      Consider this: the first three were the first generation, of which we were robbed of two of the games. Then the next three came about, with the fifth there having to wait a console generation for release (and as a re-release) in places other than Japan. IV and VI are still considered the best two of the entire lineup by those who have been fans of the series for the last three decades (and that includes me). Then we get to the Playstation, with VII coming and having a much darker tone overall, and then VIII. And then IX, which was very much a send back to the classic Final Fantasy stuff, with more outright fantasy elements with the steampunk aesthetic for technology that also became a genre staple back in the days of IV and VI. OF the possibilities, I would await a remake of VI more than IX, but a remake of IX is also good. I have many fond memories of that game.

      I believe FF9 was the last one the original creator of FF got to be in charge of. He knew that going in so he really wanted it to be the culmination of everything he had learned about making FF up to that point. I think he's even quoted saying something to the effect of "FF9 was the game that came closest to being what my original vision of what FF should be".
      I'm certain the only reason FF9 isn't just as beloved as the likes of FF7 is because it just got completely screwed by its release. FF9, 10 and 11 all developed and released around the same time so FF9 released 1)after the PS2 had come out and 2)around the same time as FF10. This is largely sited as the reason for its bad sales.

    A remake of Final Fantasy VI seems like it would take more work than almost any of them, depending on how you wanted to present the game. There's so much of the game that I feel like works because it's 2D and Low Detail compared to something like modern games. Especially the silliness of some parts. It would also be a bigger ask in terms of 3D Assets than almost anyone probably realizes if they tried to do something like a 3rd Person Camera etc.

    It's a story about discovering your place in the world, and characters who fight to defy the tyranny of those who seek to subjugate and manipulate the masses. The world is not always built upon totally good morale values, and yet it's up to it's inhabitants to accept that notion, and still choose to fight to do the right thing. Life may not be fair , but that doesn't mean you have to accept defeat before the battle even started.

FF6 had some higher tech elements but still felt like a world from far off in the past. FF8 just didn't do it for me at all. I preordered it and picked it up ASAP on the launch day, played for like an hour, and probably never touched it again. It didn't look or feel like Final Fantasy at all anymore.

      That's my biggest concern with idea of a remake of FF9. (That and maybe voice acting.) It would be too easy for them to over modernize the artsyle to appeal to a broader audience, especially after the success of FF7R, but that would lose so much of the game's charm.
      I'd be so disappointed if they just copied the Dissidia look.

      @@Zeik56 Was FF7R really that "modernized" compared to the original game's aesthetic? I don't really think so. Nor do I think that means FF9R gets the same treatment. Both games have very, very distinct game worlds from each other.

      @@Zeik56 They actually worked at keeping true to the original FFVII's designs. Barret was the first anything they designed for Remake. And all the monsters in Remake are faithful recreation of classic FFVII enemies. For God's Sake they kept Hell House and even made it a Boss Fight.

    • @Zeik56
      @Zeik56 Год назад +4

      @@ZephyrFate FF7R is in fact a pretty significant difference from the PS1 version. Not just the 3D models, but compared to the original character art as well. I think people tend to forget that the original FF7 was kind of cartoonish. Lots of the character designs and characters themselves were a lot less realistic than what we got from Remake. Characters like Heidegger are almost completely unrecognizable in FF7R compared to his original incarnation, and there was lots of goofy animations that didn't translate to the more realistic and serious vibe of Remake.
      Now don't get me wrong, I don't dislike what they did with Remake. By and large I think I like it better. They did manage to be faithful enough, despite all the changes. But FF7 is a game that was able to more easily accommodate that kind of change, both for itself and in regard to fandom expectations.
      FF9 is just so different than FF7 though, and that changing the direction of the game that dramatically would definitely undermine a significant part of what makes it special. Now if I truly believed SE only cared about doing what's best for the game and its fandom I wouldn't doubt they would be faithful to the original. But at the end of the day they are out to make money and sell their game, and it's just an unfortunate truth that FF9's aesthetic does not have the same mass market appeal as FF7, especially the more realistic post PS1 FF7. It's been a very common criticism for many many years among non-fans that FF9 looks too cartoonish and not mature enough. It's not out of the question that SE will push to change the look of the game to something that has more mass appeal, even at the cost of undermining the game itself.
      I truly hope that does not happen, but I won't stop worrying until I see proof myself otherwise.

      Ill level with you. I love cartoony art style but i wouldnt mind them making it realistic. Like, look up yoshitaka amanos ff9 art, id love for it to take cues from those. As for goofy animations; ever seen Lost odyssey, an xbox jrpg by sakaguchi, uematsu and other FF miscreants? Its got realistic art style and yet there are LOT of goofy animations and funny moments. And in fact, FF9 artist worked on Lost Odyssey as well, so its not like theres no blueprint to work off.
      What i mean is, i dont think making the style more serious means sacrificing the charm :)

    Nicely done, and well researched, cheers. The FFIX remake is certainly an interesting case, rumours usually don't linger for as long as this one has without either disappearing or being proved correct.
    As for the idea of it being remade, personally it's a bit of a grey area for me. I can only think of a couple of specific ways FFIX might benefit from being remade, as the original was already extremely well done. Probably the best looking game on the PS1, a fantastic localisation, and in terms of gameplay, I can think of only minor, basic quality of life features being missing.
    One of the big things for me would be some of the content that had to be stripped down or cut because of space limitations; most notably, the Earth Shrine section where you divide the party to tackle four shrines at once. They originally wanted to include an actual fight in each area but it had to be cut. It was a cool part of the game to me, but felt like it should have had more to it; now I know why.

It is extremely formative to me, I have cosplayed numerous characters, made a ton of art surrounding the game and made an FC in FFXIV named after the Knights of Pluto which is a top 10 FC in North America. I LOVE this game.
    And with all that being said, I hope and pray every day that they don't do a remake. The Square of today is not the Square of 2000. They have lost touch with how to tell nuanced storytelling and I truly don't think they even understand IX anymore based on representation of Zidane in Dissidia games where he's more of a Naruto "BELIEVE IT!" character--Zidane was never that. He is positive, but complicated and a lady's man at the end of the day but they always portray him as a wacky zany anime hero chibi mess. In general that's what Square thinks FFIX is. "Oh the characters look chibi so it's a cutesy chibi game like Teen Titans Go!". It is not. It's whimsical, it has a VERY specific pop-up storybook atmostphere and I just don't think they'll be able to capture that.
    I also fear that a remake will just make less people play the original. Do you know how many people played the VII remake without ever touching the original (which is silly because VIIR is actually a sequel if you think about it). I don't want that for IX. I want FFIX to be appreciated for years to come by new fans, not for people to play some AAA next-gen rushed, unfinished, convoluted mess.

    I really don’t think announcing a FF9 remake now is that good of an idea. It just seems that it would distract from the FF7R project. To me it makes more sense to get that series finished first, and then we can all get behind another classic being remade.
    Hopefully if FF9R is in development now, it’d mean that announcing it after FF7R had been completed would mean we wouldn’t have long to wait after the eventual announcement for it to then be released, so it could be a win win.

    I’d love a remake, but honestly I don’t think it would do well. FF9 isn’t “edgy” enough for a modern audience. I mean look at 16, the trailer has a damn dead chocobo in it, literally shoving in our faces how dark and brooding it is. 7 was already a much darker game compared to 9.

      Idk what makes you say that a modern audience needs a game to be "edgy". Minecraft, Fortnite and League of Legends are 3 of the most popular games from the past decade. Certainly not edgy
      And then there's ff14, which is insanely popular right now (though I don't really consider it a final fantasy game), and is mostly about people collecting outfits and dressing up.
