- As a kid, I grew up listening to this band. It helped mold the kid that was always ready to fight if confronted. As small as I’ve always been, I was always ready to put up them dukes.
Every time they came to town, I wasn’t doing good so I never could afford to go see them. I’ve been in survival mode since I was 17. Broke and nowhere to live, friends made fun of me and my backpack when I couch surfed. I knew I couldn’t keep doing that.
Mike Ness, the singer for Social Distortion was recently diagnosed with cancer. He wrote the lyrics to this song the day before playing it in Bakersfield California. This is the first time this song was ever heard and it’s such a good song. I fought hard to hold in my tears. At the end of the song, you can see Mike wipe away his own tears. All I could do is thank God for finally allowing this poor kid to make enough money to see one of my favorite bands, Social Distortion. I grew up in Bakersfield and they always came here to play. This time, I wasn’t going to miss it. I also took two of my sons with me to experience it. Nate Skates and San Joaquin Junior had a blast. They like my kind of music.
It was nice seeing parents like myself there with their kids. Mohawks or balding, we all enjoyed the show.
I usually don’t post videos on my channel that doesn’t have anything to do with police accountability but this is important for me. Not only is it an amazing song but my heart is full of joy this morning and I wanted to share some of last nights experience with you. I hope you enjoy the new song and play it over and over again.

Oh yeah I almost forgot, this band made a song called (Bakersfield) to show this town appreciation for supporting them throughout, but they didn’t play the song. Many of us were yelling for them to play it but it wasn’t on the set list. Oh well, it was one hell of a show nonetheless.

He wrote it during the cancer. He played it Saturday before in Vegas. Last night in Santa Barbara was the best so far. His son Julian played it with him and Mike got emotional. It hit hard. So happy he’s still here and I got to see him for these first three shows 🙏🏼

I was born in Fullerton April 4, 1962, a day after Mike. Still have a home in Fullerton. Went to a private High School in Anaheim with the original rhythm guitarist of the Adolescents. I remember going over to the dark hole for a visit and said no, not for me. I wanted to be a Doctor or a Lawyer fat and rich as Mike would sing. Ended up being a banker, still fat and rich. Never attended those early punk shows as I was afraid of the violence, but I always loved Social Distortion since the beginning.
Took my wife to the Chula Vista show. She was born same day as Mike, April 3rd, but in 1947. She’s having some issues with AFIB, which is scaring me. I go to bed wondering how much time we have left together. I feel like I’m scrambling to complete things because we have finite time left. So when Mike played this song, my eyes teared up. We’re all going to get there someday, but we never know when. Thank you Mike.

It's so cool how he plays these songs when they're still rough around the edges. I remember them doing Angels Wings at a show then when it came out on Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll it had different lyrics. This song was very powerful. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you man. I never battled cancer or a disease but I lost my best friend to suicide and for a long time I was contemplating taking my own life. I found Social D in that dark time and they pulled me out of that hole and to hear this song years after that tragic day it reminded me of that time and makes me greatful to be alive and well for the ones that love me the most and pushed me to find help and get in a right place in life. In a short story thank you for posting this. Hope they play it when I see them in may. 🔥🔥🔥

Thank you very much because this song reminded me of my mom's last day alive about 6 months ago. It's so awesome to see this on RUclips. I tried to record it but ran out of storage on my phone and at the end of the song when I went to save it it said error and I lost everything and seeing it on here and its entirety with better sound quality than my phone would have had again thank you so much

Sorry to hear that Mike. SD is a band that I saw several years ago in a small venue in Vermont and I still wear their T-Shirt I bought at the concert.

I saw him in DC last night. I cried, and I'm crying right now. Lady next to me was crying, she works in a cancer clinic, i was just diagnosed with brain aneuryson, so I've been warned, don't know how I feel about it. Love Mike Ness
