The way y'all are describing it actually sounds great,.. for me, that citrus and spice flavor is what makes Willett bourbons stand out. Rowan's Creek, Noah's Mill, Johnny Drum,.. I find that flavor in all of them to differing degrees, and I love it. Everybody has different tastes though, of course.. I can't stand the banana note in everything that Brown Foreman and Barton/1792 make, but a TON of people love it. I don't buy the Willett Pot Still anymore though, because I got a bad bottle last year that tasted like it was tainted with mold or something.

I drink it on the rocks and enjoy it. Perhaps if I drank it neat it may change my mind but I thought you were a little rough on it. For the money I think it's pretty good.
From the look of the bottle that isnt the current willet pot still recipe. It depends if it has a white barcode or a gold one (gold is new). New is a young wheater and the old wasnt. Either way, its pretty rough. I get asked for it a lot and its never by people who are really into whiskey. I think the bottle really gets a certain type of people.
I used to like that bottle. Now that my pallet has experienced more, I get a medicinal cherry note that overpowers everything else. I feel like I’m drinking cherry NyQuil.
I've had the older recipe once and couldn't stand it. I do like Rowan's Creek and Noah's Mill (and even the Blackened Willett -- the only good Blackened I've had), so it isn't that I hate the Willett profile. In a bar fight, snap off that neck and you've got a reach advantage unless they grab a pool cue.
So willet changed the recipe awhile ago so I wonder if your bottle is the old recipe or the new. It’s Bourbon Night did a whole video on it and tells you how to tell the difference by the bottle.
I really think Willet is just super loose with their blending. I’ve never had 2 pot stills that taste the same. Same with the 4y rye, some are minty and others are caramel bombs. A friend and I both got handles of pot still from the exact same batch, and even those are noticeably different. I’ve had some that are terrible, but I do like my current bottle.
This costs $50 here in Florida when you can find it. No thank you is all I have to say. I truly do not care if the bottle is cool or whatever. It’s the juice inside that matters. It’s not for me. Thanks for the review.
It taste crafty. I’m a big fan of malt and pot still scotch and Irish, but bourbon in pot still comes off as crafty. I think that’s the spice you are talking about, the pot still.
Willet Pot Still should have a place on your bar for these reasons: Its a lifetime supply. The cool bottle will pique other's interest. And if they like it they won't be drinking your other favorites. or If you want a visitor to leave you can give them a pour of it.
Precisely! This is the bottle I use for guests with no discretion or the "I like whiskey but I'm not an enthusiast" people. It's great in cocktails though!

I use my Pot Still container as a blending decanter for my Old Forester 1910 and Old Forester 1920.. The best of both worlds...Taste and Looks.

The new wheated mash bill is supposed to be good but the older bottles were really rough on my palate. I will have to try it again

It’s a great whiskey for crawfish boils when your palate is already spiced up and the sweetness comes through that’s about it…
