      I’m glad they are helpful. I found that subbing was more difficult than having my own classroom. If you have any questions, let me know.

    Could you make a video that showed exactly how you would teach active writing? I teach first grade and would love new ideas.

    Cool ms Angie, I’ve been so far behind and have a lot of catching up to do with you and your awesome channel. Look at you go! You are definitely hitting the teacher friend nerve. They have come to the right place to learn balanced, loving, efficient & effective way to teach and manage a large classroom of eager kiddos. Great video about scheduling & fitting it all in. 🎵💜 Dawn

    HI Angie,
    Thank you so much for the videos. I have been teaching for decades and I still need help. I have difficulty with stations, so I will watch all your videos. Do you have a video on your end of the day routine that you said you figured out? I have trouble with the end of the day, as well as the Spring. It all seems to go downhill for me after lunch and at the end of the year. Maybe I'm the one running out of steam later in the day and later in the year? sighhhhhhh. Thanks for all your help!!
    Pam

      I don’t think teachers ever stop learning. I always told my students there was one person in the room who was going to make more mistakes and learn more than anyone else and that person was me. They thought I was joking but it was the truth.
      I have a video I’m editing about the end of the day. I will get that up ASAP. I used to hate it too.
      And I will do one for the end/Spring. I think that is by far the hardest part of the year. I can’t say I mastered all the feelings and work load that comes with it but I have a few little tips that might help you.
      Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Hi Angie! Do you have a template for your daily schedule? I like the idea of stations. We have play-based centers, but I would like to incorporate more learning based stations this school year, especially for math! There just seems like there isn't enough time to fit everything in!

    • @TeachersMakingTheBasicsFun
      @TeachersMakingTheBasicsFun  Год назад +1

      I don’t have one that is editable. You’re the second one this week to ask so I will put it as a priority.
      It is so hard to get it all in. That’s one of the beautiful things about stations.
      Thanks for the schedule request. I’m away from my computer for a couple weeks so it’s going to take a while.

    During your reading time, did you do any kind of guided reading groups with station time?

    • @TeachersMakingTheBasicsFun
      @TeachersMakingTheBasicsFun  Год назад +2

      To be super honest I didn’t do guided reading. Basically I observed what the kids were struggling with or (and this might not be a popular idea) what there strengths were and worked on strengthening both. So if I had kids who needed help with fluency we worked on that. If I had kids who liked to write, we did writing.
      I think it’s important to meet with them on skills that are in deficit AND on skills that come easily but can be taken to the next level.
      I found that even with some of my struggling students if I could find something that they liked or had a strength in, then when I asked them to work on skill deficits they would work twice as hard for me.
      Feeling successful and seeing growth in learning carries across all learning. Just my observation.

    Calendar time?

    • @TeachersMakingTheBasicsFun
      @TeachersMakingTheBasicsFun  Год назад +1

      I did calendar time in the morning for awhile. But to be honest I didn’t like it. So then I moved it to before station time in the afternoon. I still didn’t like it. Then I made it an independent task. Sometimes we did it before math but my favorite time was before math stations in the afternoon.

      @@TeachersMakingTheBasicsFun I'd love to learn more about calendar still; especially the independent part!

      @TeachersMakingTheBasicsFun  Год назад +1

      @@laurelrulison9925 Sure. I will put that on my video to-do list. I really hated calendar time so I had to find a way to make it work. When it was all said and done it was a favorite of both the kids and me. And it gave me extra time with my high needs kids.

      Yes. The same idea of active time followed by short focused times works great in first grade too. 🙂

    What did the quiet time after lunch look like, sound like etc?

    • @TeachersMakingTheBasicsFun
      @TeachersMakingTheBasicsFun  Год назад +2

      I will make a video to do a better job of explaining but for now… when students came back from lunch I had the lights dimmed and quiet music playing. Around the room I placed their “dots” on the floor. Dots were just spongie shelf liner cut into dots with their name on it. They needed to grab a few books and spend a few quiet minutes looking at their books. Then after a few minutes if they wanted to quietly switch from looking at books to coloring or doing an independent game they could. I did some one on one assessments or instruction during this time. And some kids actually closed their eyes and had a short nap. Hope that gives you a little idea.

      Second graders can go longer with focus time but they definitely still need active times built in. Thanks for commenting.
