Hi I am a substitute that is going into a long term for kinder for 4 weeks and possibly to the end of the school year. I have been subbing for 2 years, and I am so glad that I now have you to guide me in the classrooms. Thanks for your wisdom I have been watching and taking notes all day😊❤.
I’m so grateful for your channel! You have fantastic ideas. I love how you give examples by actually demonstrating what you would actually say and do with the students. A lot of other RUclipsrs don’t do this. They tell you “what” but not “how” to actually implement them through demonstrations and how to actually talk to the students using helpful phrases. You also give solutions on what to say if students don’t want to do certain things. You also share what works and what doesn’t work in the classroom and how teachers could change it up. Please do more videos on this. So many teachers and educators lack this teaching skills and ideas.
This was my first year in K. I wish I had this at the beginning of this year! I will have to look up the resources and use what you've shared to revamp my morning meeting time. Thank you so much!
I am going back to K after teaching 3rd for 6 years. I am glad to have found your channel. Thank you so much for your experience and inspiration to help me transition back to what I love.
What a great great video!! I never comment, but this was just exceptional!! I have been trying for YEARS to embrace and improve my class meetings. I'm K-5 Resource Room ELA, I will use these ideas with my youngers!! Thank you so much!!!
I love the chant for when they first sit down for morning meeting! I have the students do calendar in the morning and it really doesn’t work well. Only a few students were really engaged. I think I’ll change it up and use some of your tips and tricks.
I’m glad you are getting some ideas for your classroom. One of the great things about being a teacher is figuring out what works for your class. It’s always ok to try something different.
I am so glad I found you! I've been teaching 5th grade for the past 12 years and I am changing to 1st in August. Definitely thumbs up on this video. I subscribed and am about to binge watch your other videos lol Thank you so much!
Gosh. You are making me smile ear to ear. I am so glad these videos are helping you. I taught a 3/4/5 grade combination…(I know-right?) and teaching 5th grade is a lot different. Let me know if you have any questions as you watch the other videos. 🙂
So explicit!!! Incredible tips on such an important time of the day. Love, love how you model as though we are your class. You rock! Especially love that beginning chant involving food. Did you create that?😄
I used to make up songs and chants all day. Many times I would modify someone else’s ( usually because I couldn’t remember how the original went 🤣). I made a lot of my own too. If you like chants and songs, I did a few videos and Dr Jean is the Queen of chants and songs. Google her name. She’s awesome.
I’ve had a few requests for actions. I did a few RUclips shorts but I stopped. 😞. I will but your request on my video to do list. Honestly sometimes we would make them up together in class. Much more memorable and special to the kids.
Hello! Thank you for the useful video. Could you put the link of that RUclips channel- Kindergarten Readers by Elise", which you mentioned, here? Thank you.
🌺💥Making my class feel good about themselves, 💥letting them know that I expect great things from them, 💥doing some pre-teaching, 💥doing some review, 💥getting it done! … Bam💥 Wish I was in Kindergarten again 😊 🎵💜Dawn
Sorry I wasn’t clear. It is a RUclips Channel. I placed the link in the description and here it is also: youtube.com/@kindergartenreaders She is amazing.
I’m going to make a PDF download for you. When it’s done I’ll reply again to this comment and post it in the description. Hopefully I’ll have it ready for you in a few days.
After rewatching the video I think ill just type a bit and you can copy paste. The Criss-Cross chant is from Harry Kindergarten. He's amazing. Here's the link to that video: ruclips.net/video/4NIEUX55hSk/видео.htmlsi=TzFbb4bFPgKk31Es This Is The Way Chant is from The Kindergarten Reader Channel here is the link to the original chant. I tweaked it a bit to suit us: ruclips.net/video/64pOi7RsNcY/видео.htmlsi=jgRpLg1PM6e6diiK Ours was this way: This is the way, Hey! We start the day, Hey! We get the knowledge, Hey! To got to college, Hey! We know our stuff, Hey! It's not too tough, Hey! We listen too, Hey! We're smart it's true, Yaaaahhhhh!!! Then the sight word chant for "ARE" A-R-E ARE, A-R-E ARE, A-R-E... arrrreeee yyooooouuu, happy, happy, happy? Are you sad, sad, sad? I hope that gets you started. Thanks for the question.
Hey Angie and watchers 👋🏻 sorry to bother. I’m a first year kindergarten teacher and I feel like I am jumping into the middle of the ocean. @lissettcuba4172 I think you have a great outline started. Sit down and plan out each minute. (Even though it will never go as planned) Think about how you will engage your students while you are explaining directions, procedures, objectives etc. in those first hours and days. Remember they are very young and they like to know they are safe and that you love them and they like to have fun and they like to move, and they like to talk. You have to be very very step by step with them & you have to make your time of talking very short. They need to be engaged. Here's a video I've watched a ton. She is a master. I never got this good at engagement but...www.youtube.com/@kindergartenreaders Also, your kinders are going to come in with a lot of different levels of competency. Some may not know how to write their name while others can write sentences. The first few days/weeks are all about establishing routine, finding out where they are emotionally and academically. It does feel like you are in the middle of an ocean but "Just keep swimming". Be patient with them and yourself. Establish routines and expectations. Have fun, smile and let them know that you are their biggest fan.
The age of the kids and the time of year helps you to decide how long. So kindergarten kids can’t (and shouldn’t) sit for as long as end of year first grade. For Kinder the first week. Keep it short. 10 minutes short or shorter. Establish routine. Then build from there. If the kids are loosing interest you need to switch it up, get them engaged and active. They need to be participating with their body and their voice. Building up to 20-30 minutes with lots of engagement and participation is very doable. Just know it’s not going to happen right away and you have to have well set procedures and high engagement. You will definitely know if you are losing them. Don’t power through. It’s not worth it.

Oh my god, this is exactly what I've needed my whole career. Why don't more teaching videos do it in this step by step format? amazing! Thank you!
I’m glad you are getting some ideas. I teach like I learn. I like it when things are given in a step by step process. It’s a bit like a recipe. 🙂
Wow. That's awesome. Makes me smile.

Where did you get the songs to go with the sight words. I absolutely love them.
Some songs I made up and some I found on- line.
Great video!
Is there a video of you doing actions for each sight word?
I’ve had a few requests for actions. I did a few RUclips shorts but I stopped. 😞. I will but your request on my video to do list. Honestly sometimes we would make them up together in class. Much more memorable and special to the kids.
I will be doing it all! Thank you ❤

I will try to get that done for you.
I love the chant with the criss cross apple sauce. I will most definitely use this in my classroom !

Where can I find the chants and movement for the sight words?
I have a few RUclips Shorts videos that are available on the channel. I hope to keep building on that library. I will put it on the to-do list.
