So i never knew what was Vincent’s name until now. All i want to say is that he’s such a good drummer with good style. Ive been waiting for a good video on tuning a whole drum set. Thank you!
For years I have been struggling with drum tuning. Don't know how the drum should sound like for worship. This tutorial works perfectly for our drums at church. Really appreciated your sharing. God bless you man!
I am not here because I wanted to learn to play drums nor learn how to tune drums. I am here cause I was moved by his drums. The way he play the "Never Lost" it was really amazing. God Bless Mr. Vincent Baynard. You drum with your heart. You drum with a passion to serve God. Well done!🥰♥️
Love your opinion on the snare tuning. So many times I’ve heard drummers looking for that phat tone and they just tune it so low it has no real attack to it and sounds like mush.
Yeah agreed. A super low snare can be awesome but generally unless you're really hitting the pocket super hard in a very specific style its gonna be way too low to fit well with the mix. Medium tuning is where it's at.
My personal preference for the phat sound is medium tuning with 14"x8" brass snare. I think the depth of the shell gives it enough off that deep slap without my batter head sitting as loose as a dead fish on the drum haha. But unfortunately not everyone owns a drum that deep as its less versatile/all around. Love mine though!
@@kas36spires Agreed! I have a Black Beauty :) 6.5"X14" and it sits really nice at medium/low. Throw a controlled sound and al little muffling to control the tone with some 30 strand wires and it sounds huge and hits really nice.
@@benjamingazdik It’s kind of funny because his royal dudeness, Chris Greely, has said “Guys will try to get snare tone we have by tuning the drums way way too low. And I don’t get the sound by tuning the snare low. I get it by tuning the snare… Right.”
Finally get to hear from this dude! We all know the worship leaders, but it would be nice to start to know the other members of the instrumental part of the team so we can learn from them (I'm a drummer and have used the tutorials with Vincent and Luke).
Thanks, man! I never knew your name until now, but you've always been my favorite drummer mainly because of how humble you are. You don't need to unnecessarily move your body in any way to get attention.
So good! Thank you!! QUESTION: Do you like having a modified or different setup for more acoustic or small room setups, or have you found this to be your favorite in nearly all situations? Thank you for sharing and blessing.
@@sergiotorrensmusic God bless you man! You’ve even been an inspiration for me to start my own drum channel! If and when that gets going, I will 100% be shouting you out!🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
@vincent @elevation i see you have more toms on the newer set up. Can you guys make an updated video with all the toms and the readings for all sizes? Thanks!
I know im very late to the party lol. I Love your drum sounds but word of advice to the production team. It might be advantages to not use background music when showing off the sound of the drums, so that way its easier to hear the nuances.
The video is nicely done, but remember, tuning is a matter of taste. It also needs to fit the style of music . Ultra low tunings work great in a dry studio with $10k of large diaphragm condensers, but that may not be the answer in a reverberant auditorium. Some ppl sacrifice the fundemental pitch of the drum, just to get "all that low end". Out where the sound guy sits, it may just be blap, blap, blap, instead of dim, dum, dooooommm.
I like the sound of those toms and that bass drum. Next time I re-tune my drums I'm gonna try tuning my bass drum this way. Next time y'all need to change out some heads check out Evans. Their level 360 heads make it SUPER easy to tune and if you're ever wanting to bring out the low end of your bass drum definitely check out the Evans EMAD Heavyweight bass drum. Lots of low end and with the adjustable dampening ring you can get three level of focus or attack(depending on what you're looking for)
Thanks for the video. Perhaps y’all can speak to your trigger/sample choices and the decision process in how to determine the proper mix between the sample and the drum. Appreciate the info @elevation worship
He says what he uses on the kick. he either uses remo ambassador or remo emperor (coated) on the toms, im not sure. im assuming he uses a remo p4 clear dot for the snare.
I guess each to their own, but that bass batter head, Powerstroke 3 already has a dot for that reason. No more need to add a patch but I suppose each to their own
Paranøia _ me too. I’m guessing emperor on the top hazy ambassador on bottom and pure sound 30 strand . I like Evans better than remo because they last longer. I have a raw brass Ludwig 14x6.5 and I’ve gotten this type sound out of my snare drum using Evans g2 and 300 drum heads with tama 42 strand snare wires I’ve used super 30s too I’m just a 42 strand guy though. Trust me I’ve been at it for a long time trying to achieve a similar sound out of my snare drums that I just saved up and bought a Ludwig and played with the heads and wires until I got something close. Double ply head on top and a 3mil head on the bottom oh and instead of moon gels I use an Evans e ring for dampening. I hope I helped I’ve been there believe me lol
Do you put the snare on a stand when you tune both heads ? I see a lot of people saying to put it on a pillow so you don't hear the overtones of the other head while you're tuning it
Yes, he places drums on the drum throne to mute the other side. I do it on each tom, even the floor toms. Just sit them right on top the throne, tune it up, and then flip it over.
Ik there will be some of you guys here, like me, who will do the exact same thing, try a million times but when we hit those toms, Good Lord have mercy. They will ALWAYS sound crap. Is it just me or what?
yes you can if you have similar tuning with 20-42 strand snare wires, Vincent is either using a 30 strand or 42.(edit) Vincent uses a Coated Emperor Batter side, For the bottom or aka the resonant head, I’m assuming he’s using a ambassador hazy snare side. People from bethel and stuff, they use the Power Stroke 4, some people even use the P77, that is only remo heads. I don’t know what other people use with Evans but you can do that research.

Last question. Do you always tune the bottom head first for each drum ?
What microphones are you using?
Is that a 22” or 24” kick drum?
I guess each to their own, but that bass batter head, Powerstroke 3 already has a dot for that reason. No more need to add a patch but I suppose each to their own
Forgive me but I’m new to this but is the frequency he’s talking about let’s say 150, is that the frequency for every lug or the frequency overall?
Overall! ^EW Team
it’s per each lug

How will this work for a 16" kick bass drum
13" floor tom
10" TomTom
14" snare
Tuning wise ?? And what note or key pitch is he tuning to ??
curious to know too!
Did anyone catch what batter head he’s using for the floor time and the front rack Tom?
Remo Emperor's I beleive.
Do you have any muffleing in the kick?
What are the tune not numbers for a 12 inch rack Tom?
Are those single ply or double ply heads on the toms? my guess is single ply anyone in the comments have a guess?
Single on bottom, 2 ply top.
What effects are on your sound mix?
Do you put the snare on a stand when you tune both heads ? I see a lot of people saying to put it on a pillow so you don't hear the overtones of the other head while you're tuning it
