    Brother this is the BEST video I've seen on this tool. What a fantastic explanation of how to get the most from it while mitigating any confusion that can sometimes arise. I would love to see a video with your experience and advice with it on kick drums with a hole cut out for a kick mic and toms too if you're down to complete the series. I'm trying to get that big open Simon Phillips or Keith Carlock sound with my kick & toms and it has been like you said: a steep learning curve. Killer content - keep up the great work!

      @@jpipaj hmm. This might not help. Do you mute the center of the head (and always the bottom head on carpet or towel) and tap about 1-2" inch from each lug? That muting will create a harmonic, which should be higher, than not muting the center, for ex. You def wanna lightly mute the center with a finger or two, tap near lug an inch or so out w/ hard object (drum key for ex) or mallet.

    I love my tune-bot, the only problem I have with it is if you don't pull the batteries out every time you store it they will be flat next time to try to turn it on. I'm surprised it isn't a lithium ion batt with USB charging like everything else. In 10 years are we still going to be able to buy batteries? You also don't seem to be using the lock feature, EG once you get to 400 on one lug you lock that and then it will tell you on every other hit if its higher or lower than that. Thats how is supposed to be used. For suggested tuning the tunebot website has a list of them.

    • @EliGreenDrums
      @EliGreenDrums  9 дней назад

      I agree, the batteries are annoying but I’ve not noticed them flattening when the device is off. Also having everything be a USB charged device is equally frustrating when you have 10 devices on tour that all need a USB. I’ve never really enjoyed the lock function personally. It’s not bad by any means, but I just find it quicker and easier to get the results I’m after without it. Just a workflow thing for me.

  • @krusher74
    @krusher74 10 дней назад +1

    People that dont undersatnd why it jump from 300 to 100 need to be tough a drum head does not just vibrate at one frequency it has other harmonics. The fundamental note is the one we are trying to tune too, once we have a lug at brought fundamental 300 and we get that reading we hit the filter button, which will then filter out the 100 etc harmonics the head is also making. You could show all these harmonics on an Assiloscope app in a future video. When we use something like moongel etc we are dampening these harmonics to make the drums sound mostly the fundamental note.

    This is one of the most comprehensive tuning videos I've seen. I've playing with this little machine for almost one decade, and I've found the same spots on many snare drums I've tuned. So this video is basically a good summary on how to get there. When you say before the tunebot, it felt like there was no final destination to drum tuning, I absolutely felt 100% interpreted on that feeling, because I got through that with this little machine. Finally 294 is my all around standard, 277 for nasty rockish with little muffing, and 233 with tons of tape with that low indie/pop sound. I would like to see a video of Part II on toms and bass drum, where I also found another gems, another nice spots.

I love using it together with the app - the suggested tunings really help you focus on the differences between reso/batter relationships, trying new tunings, and coping the tunings of tune-bot artists. Love the detailed dive! Also, for anyone saying drums shouldn't be tuned to pitches or don't have one, I agree it seems very closed minded. Especially considering how many legend drummers and producers have stated that tuning your drums to fit into a certain pitch of a song can make a massive difference in overall production. If the song is in a specific key, why wouldn't you start by tuning your drums to a key that will compliment it rather than muddying it up? Just my take. Another solid video, dude.

    I’ve try it and I confirm that the 400hz plug works really well on 14’’ size snares bottom but I’m wondering to also know what the measurements max tension for a 10, 12, 13’’ snares bottom please help ….

      Because they are smaller they can go higher than 14's, and would sound better too. My Joey Jordinson and Mapex black panther (both 13 inch) are around 435 440

      @@thepluggy1 it’s weird because my lp 13inch snare bottom doesn’t goes to 400hz i used the tune bot studio …. And I broke my snare skin thinking that I need to tighten more just to rich 400hz but it goes to 230hz or 300😥…. Maybe I still need to learn and practice more how to use the tune bot and in general through….

      Your 13 definitely goes to 400hz, but either you were measuring the fundamental, not the lug pitch, or you overshot and the Tunebot was reading a lower harmonic (which can happen when you over crank and the drum starts to choke out). Use the stair stepping method from a lower tuning range - 350 or so, and then bring it up using the filter method and you’ll get it there.
      I also agree that smaller snares can come up from 400. I’ve had great success with 416, 420, 435 and 450

      @@EliGreenDrums thanks for your reply master and can you please mention about the 10, 12 and 13 which is the best parameter should I get and set for them each on bottom side please thanks 🙏🏼?

    Use a mallet and hold the Tunebot with your hand... makes it a lot more accurate than clipping it to the rim.

    • @EliGreenDrums
      @EliGreenDrums  6 месяцев назад

      I do that when I tune bass drums a lot of the time. I like to be able to mute the head when I tune though, so I find clipping and freeing up the hand works better for me.

      @@EliGreenDrums Well obviously it’s working for you so don’t change anything haha! But when I teach people how to use it, I’ve noticed that holding it forces them to really concentrate on how hard they hit the head, and when the Tunebot gives a weird reading, they very quickly start to HEAR that something went wrong, and they try again.. it’s pretty cool!… Now I have NEVER been able to get the Tunebot to work reliably on a kick drum. Whats the secret?

    Okay but how do you switch to tune bot to the bottom head

    • @EliGreenDrums
      @EliGreenDrums  6 месяцев назад

      You turn the drum over. You don’t need to switch any modes on the tunebot. I literally never use those settings. Just leave it on the standard tuning screen and go for gold!

      @EliGreenDrums that's what I do but I can't figure out how to switch it on the tune bot and it drives me crazy haha

      The TuneBot has a "Head" selector button, but all that does is cycle through the saved values for the Top Lug, Bottom Lug, Fundamental tuning targets for the selected Drum Set and Drum. You don't have to use this, and the TuneBot works without changing these.

    08:02 This is not an one full turn but a half one of the key, 180°

    • @EliGreenDrums
      @EliGreenDrums  4 месяца назад

      You’re not wrong but I call it a full turn because that’s the full rotation of my wrist. It’s a repeatable movement that a lot of drummers refer to that as a full turn, even though it’s obviously 180°

  • @Dr.Sharahy
    @Dr.Sharahy 6 месяцев назад +1

    It's a half turn on the drum key. Not a full turn.

    • @EliGreenDrums
      @EliGreenDrums  6 месяцев назад

      I could so do a video on this exact topic, I’m sure there’s a huge divide in drummers as to full vs half turn terminology haha. I say full turn because it’s a full turn of my hand before having to alter my grip.

      @@EliGreenDrums But then you turn around and do quarter turns that really are quarter turns. To be consistent those would be half turns.😁
