My favorite muscle car. It beat the Nissan GTR around the track, but it was using better tires and brakes but still I love the exhaust sound it's the best!!!!!
Uh that's shit motortrend did that test . Have you seen the nurburg times of the z28 and the gtr? You think your getting a gtr quick car? It's a joke 8th can't even touch a 2007
matthew clouser on top of what he said, its a Camaro. Its no fancy car, and give me a list of what they changed on the GTR since 2007 performance wise. They did jack shit. People like you dont get the fact that it is a heavy car and its a Camaro. Not enough respect in the world for a car costing 75k that can keep up with supercars
THANK YOU GM for NOT putting a turbo in the Z28. I could have lived with a supercharger but I am SICK of the turbo lovers. People fail to understand how amazing a naturally aspirated engine is. Turbos get hot and break down over time. Not to mention the bank draining you will experience if you were to blow a turbo. Give me a NA Engine any day. 500HP is plenty for me :)
The zeta platform is just too heavy. You can't fix a problem that's fundamental to the chassis. Next camaro will hopefully be based on alpha platform and be lighter.

The Z28 has every detail which I would have in a car for daily, for cruising with my lovely wife, to drive fast over mountain roads and to go for Germanys Nürburgring! I was driving my powerful EVO IX the last 9 years and I love my EVO really hardly but suddenly there comes a car which could change my 4x4 relationship. Brother if I had the money I would. I would take a Z28 over any foreign sports car every day of the week. They must play plenty ping pong because they sure like paddles hehehe. I used to think that too...until I got a car with a dual clutch/paddle shifters. It's actually a lot more fun than you think! It acts a lot like a manual transmission in many ways as well.
You can get a base 2014 Corvette for about $20,000 less than the Z28. Other than the status symbol of owning a Z28, would you recommend this purchase over the Corvette?
Okay so your telling me for 75k$ for 505hp one speaker and maybe air condition...for 60-65k you can get a 707hp hellcat with the luxury features you would find in a Cadillac you gotta be crazy to choose the camero z28 but don't get me wrong the camero sooo sexy but not 75k sexy

Naturally aspirated is better for throttle response, which is what most track drivers prefer. The short answer to your question is that they're not going to spend the money on R&D to build a completely new engine for a car that has a limited production run. They chose to expand on the LS7 because it has a proven race pedigree in the ALMS and is one of GM's best performance engines. It's relatively light as well, especially considering how powerful it is. If you want the long answer, here's the link where I got my information from: www.camarohomepage.com/ls7/ It's long, and I skimmed through a good amount, but hopefully I was able to answer your question. I wouldn't be surprised to see a smaller displacement, turbocharged engine as a replacement for the next generation.
anthony6151 Thanks for your answer, I always look at performance cars from European stand point where ramming the most power in smallest engine is usually the way manufacturers go.
While a 7.0L V8 sounds big and heavy, the LS7 ( like all ls engines ) is actually very light and compact. Some people consider pushrod engines to be low tech, and GM receives some criticism for continuing to make pushrod engines; but it is not well deserved. A pushrod V8 has a lower center of gravity than a DOHC V8 due to having a single camshaft in the block vs. 4 camshafts on top of the cylinder heads. This also means the cylinder heads are much smaller, which again saves weight and make the physical size of the engine smaller, which makes it more versatile for multiple applications. For example: Compared to Gm's 3.6L V6, the LS engine is actually a little skinnier, but also a little longer, there really isn't much of a size difference. Also, pushrod engines also have as many as 150 less parts, which means less rotational mass, which equates to better efficiency, and makes it less expensive to produce.
wrexicate LS3 weighs 400lbs and is smaller than a 5.0L Ford weighing 444lbs You can swap in a LS3 Hotcam and make 525hp, but without heat soak like a boosted engine. Low end torque with a huge powerband is good too
chewbaccathedog Bro you just answered pretty much every car engine volume/power related question I could ever think of. I thought that point of smaller displacement engines was that they have less spinning and moving mass inside them, and that bigger bore but shorter stroke combined with higher RPM could replace engines with bigger displacements. Newer actually thought about their outer dimensions. Thanks for your reply, it was very informative.
30spooln It´s not a straight line car. For that matter you can get a 35k old camaro and try doing all of this upgrades, and you´ll be up this price range, even more. It´s not for daily drivers, it´s for track use, simple as that. The average person cant afford a track car.
30spooln Maybe it is, but have in mind you dont have a lot Off The Shelf track cars at this level and price. I WOULD NOT BUY THIS. lol, give me any S chassis and I would transform that car in a dream, or a skyline, or an old school Mustang or camaro, even a mx-5. I agree with you, it´s to much money, but it´s a nice option for those who dont know about cars, but are really good driving them (if you dont believe that, Travis Pastrana, great rally driver, and extremely talented at other sports, doesent know a lot about cars, still he is an awesome driver). Still i would prefer to build my own car, just imagine what you could do with 75k!!!
Nice to see muscle cars moving somewhere. Sure it might be still heavy but what did you expect using such engine, if they would use turbocharged smaller engine the car would be so much lighter.
The challenger srt8 weighes around 4100 lbs and it isn't even trying to be light. The 13' gt500 even weighs 3800lbs...so no it isn't light even for a muscle car and especially for a proclaimed track car.
Ethanmeister um, not according to ralph gilles, he said that they used extensive "state of the art" weight saving techniques to keep the challenger from pushing 4500 LBS.
I'm sure it's a blast to drive if they fixed the blind spots from the SS. For a track day car I wish they'd give you a deduction for non-carbon (aftermarket) brakes. If you did track that car replacing the carbon discs will really add up quick. It would also most likely be cheaper to replace the stock tires with dedicated track slicks. Sure you'd add a little more of the dreaded unsprung weight but you'd have a more affordable track day car.
If you can afford $75K for a track car there are much better options with cheaper wear items which equals more track time. Most people have no idea how expensive carbon brakes are especially if you track the car. My point is GM is marketing it as a track car but its really going to be a collector car.
Stig Msr Seems to me like cheaper wear items equals wear items that wear faster, which definitely doesn't mean more track time unless you're gonna run out to the local pep boys for parts for your serious track car. Sounds like an awful idea to me, but what do I know. They're marketing it as a track car because it *_is_* a track car. GM can't control what owners do with the cars they spend their money on, and not using something for its intended purpose doesn't change that purpose.
There's a reason only the top tier race disciplines use carbon brakes. Depending on the track they still wear out like any other brake disc. They dissipate heat better so they are less likely to fade. If they went with AP Racing or Brembo racing brakes not that weak stuff most car manufactures put on for the name Brembo. Most track days seasons last about 20+/- min. its cool to say you have carbon brakes until you have to replace carbon brakes. Even the brake package from the standard C6 Z06 would be good for the car.
What would make me want to buy this over a 2008 ZO6 which I can buy used for about 35k instead of dropping 75k on this Z28. They both share the same engine and HP I don't think Carbon Ceramic Brakes are worth paying an extra 40k sorry.
Nafir Alvarez That's your opinion and I do respect it but some people actually like Camaro more than Corvette and if they have the money to spend, let them do it. I personally am not too fond of muscle cars in general and only one I ever really liked since beginning of time was the Camaro. I think this is a step in the right direction for the newer generation of muscle cars, I hope to see them improve.
Pixie Much I was mostly talking from a budget stand point. But well said I agree, the new Z28 dose look like a mean machine and is definitely a step in the right direction.
Awesome car but those tail lights look like something Nissan would do not chevy. If they gonna make a fast car that pull away from anything on the track, they could make the rear end look nice.
Lololololololololololololololololololol a 3800lb track car? I didn't know they raced bus around tracks. Shows you how cheap the chassy is when a track car still weighs more then the moon.
Bought a 2014 Camaro SS 1LE 35K miles, under 25K, feels like I stole it Lol I bet the bone stock LS3 will give Z28 a run for it's money difference. What 50 grand? It's been a while since I've driven such a powerful car and I've only had it a few days. I'm not sure I'll ever have the guts to open it all the way up, mine goes 110 in third too Lol or fear the ticket with this thing. Thanks for the info...
You see G.M. when the engineering folks get a goal, it can be accomplished. A 427CID ohv LS-7 V-8, NATURALLY ASPIRATED, should be in the VETTE GRAND SPORT, instead of a base engine. Of course UPDATED. GET ALL THE BUGS OUT. See how fast it will go & sell. Go for it CHEVROLET. $$$$$$
Too bad no one here was talking about the GTR, looks like another keyboard warrior showed up. Good thing the GTR with all its luxury and AWD system still only weights 100 pounds more.
The z28 is already upgraded to the point where any cash you spent on it would achieve minimum performance improvements. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely respect Chevy for taking a 4000lb boat and making it this fast on a race track, even if it only beat the GTR in the hands of a pro driver. Still for the overwhelming majority of Z28 owners, beating the GTR on track will be hard to do. And with regards to the GT3 - there is more to a car than specs and lap times. The Porsche is much more expensive, and honestly, I think you get what you pay for. The Z28 is a great track car and…that’s it. You’ll HATE driving this thing every day on the road. The GT3 on the other hand has equal (or better, in the hands of most drivers) track performance and it’s a great road car as well. For me, the Porsche refinement can’t be beaten.
why do you compare a 130k car to a 75k car? if you have money then by all means buy the GT3. This is for us poor, money conscious folks. Can I compare a Pagani hyuara to the GT3? doesnt seem fair does it?
85 grand for a Camaro? (75 + dealer markup) This car's performance is entirely predicated on the use of the Trofeo tires which wear out after 20 miles. They are 305 width all around. Each tire costs about 500. This car only exists because of the tires....what a joke
Robert you have no understanding or appreciation for good American muscle. The car was designed to beat any GTR or Mustang on a road track, which it does easily. I own one along with a 2011 ZR1 and a 2014 Stingray and I can tell you it is worth every penny. Don't put the vehicle down because you can not appreciate it. It was made for the track and that is where it shines. I believe in America and buy American maybe you should try and be patriotic, or maybe your not American and can not truly understand the engineering required to get a rear wheel drive car to beat the lap times of a 4 wheeled car, maybe you don't care. Either way your missing the big picture. American ingenuity once again wins out.
Ok, so you are playing the Joe McCarthy card that a person is "un-merican" because he does not like rear-wheel drive mercian sports cars. The Z28 does not exist without the trofeos, period.
Robert Wolfe We both know the Pirelli's are a significant reason why this car is so good. No argument there. And no I'm no Joe McCarthy, your entitled to your opinion same as all the other beings on this planet and that doesn't make you un-American. The un-American attitude you bring comes from your lack of support for what we as a country bring to the table. Where else in the world can you buy a track ready car for the measly sum of $75K? Nowhere. We as a nation bring our energies to bear in the fact that we don't take no as an answer or the possibility of defeat dissuade us in any way. We keep plugging away until we fix the problem, find a solution, or build an inexpensive track ready vehicle that people will buy. I'm no Camaro guy, I'm a Corvette guy, but I'll throw my lot in with all the hard working engineers, designers, assembly plant workers and aficionados of track racing that Chevy accomplished a great task and I'm hopeful there is much more to come. Just because you don't agree doesn't change my view of you as a person with his own perception and God given right of personal freedom to voice his opinion. But give credit where credit is due.
"The un-American attitude you bring comes from your lack of support for what we as a country bring to the table." > So, once again you call me un-American because I don't like the Z28.
Why take such a heavy car in the first place and try to make it to a track car? Even after all tries to make it light it's still heavy. And to make such a heavy car act like a sports car it needs those massively wide tires all around. 305 is worlds widest front tires on a production car. And they are only one notch above slicks and need some heat to start working. Hence no cold or wet tracks. It also needs the extreme aero package. You have to remove that front splitter if you want to drive outside tracks. Sorry but it feel like the original car was a pig that needs these extreme measures to work and then only as a track car. Why not start with a light car in the beginning? Why start with a muscle car that works fine as such and change it so much? And this car has now NOTHING in common with a muscle car. Don't even try calling it one.
brian betha Not realy. It's like those deisel truck with massive turbos that gets 1500 hp and 2000 lbs. They destroy a twin turbo Viper on the 1/4 mile. But that is it. In the end it's still a heavily made up pig. It's not a usable sports car. Teh same goes for this made up muscle car. Despite all the changes it works only as a track car. If you want to use it as a daily driver you have to remove the front splitter and change the tires. Then it will be a Lt1 Camaro.
brian betha My point was this car was not even close to being a sports car from start. Not like other sports cars that manufacturers make a lighter, special sportier version of. Despite all the changes this thing needs worlds widest front tires, and semi slicks at that, to be able to turn and stop good. That is what happens when the thing was designed for something else from start. Cars with half the rubber will be better than this. This is a meaningless product. At least Corvete Z06 had a point.
Ryan Reminga Ya, and I told them why it was wrong. If the car needs race spec underpinnings and world's widest front tires to be able to turn and stop fast, then you know it was a pig to start with. But some demographics don't get it.
brian betha My opinion is the wider opinion about some US cars. If US automakers want to sell their cars around the world then they cant keep on using the same old formula. Throw in a big engine and some monster tires to make it handle. None of these cars sell anywhere but in US. The old corvette did only sell in north America, muscle cars the same. And then people accusse others for hating on US cars. Well, look at this cartoonish car and then try telling the world it's a modern sports car.
Its a blassfomy that Chevy takes a nice looking camaro and every year makes it more ugly and stupid. That idiotic chin spoiler makes it look like one of the ricer teens got a hold of it. And yeah I agree a smaller turbo V8 would probably be better but I can't be sure. The best camaro was the 1969 model, since then its been down the hill for this car.
I rather you spend more time to tell us more about your personal driving experience instead of all the aerodymatic bulshit, we can find it online with pages and pages of info...

If you did track that car replacing the carbon discs will really add up quick. It would also most likely be cheaper to replace the stock tires with dedicated track slicks. Sure you'd add a little more of the dreaded unsprung weight but you'd have a more affordable track day car.
Then again, if you can afford a 75k car then replacing the brakes and tires won't be that big of a deal.
If you can afford $75K for a track car there are much better options with cheaper wear items which equals more track time. Most people have no idea how expensive carbon brakes are especially if you track the car. My point is GM is marketing it as a track car but its really going to be a collector car.
You forget those who already occasionally track and for 75k it's not a bad bargain compared to super cars.
The Beast!!!
Bumblebee will be happy
7.0l engine that only puts out 505hp? 5.0l put out 429 give or take. It look amazing but its interior is pathetic STILL! These are my gripes
Torque
SICK
Can’t get into it considering the issues with the engine 😢
I prefer the Zl1
Cant compare a 5 yr old corvette lefty , with a new z28 at the time
Ford always has a trick up its sleeves they mite give you a couple tricks till this camaro drop
Those tires makes the car too expensive for most of us.
Awesome car but those tail lights look like something Nissan would do not chevy. If they gonna make a fast car that pull away from anything on the track, they could make the rear end look nice.
The tail lights are suppose to be reminiscent of the 1969 camaro. So yea, chevy would not make those tail lights. Sarcasm.
this thing looks pissed off.
Lololololololololololololololololololol a 3800lb track car? I didn't know they raced bus around tracks. Shows you how cheap the chassy is when a track car still weighs more then the moon.
Buy it now before they're sold out!!!!
The taillights are disgusting.
agree that Chevy left a few hundred lbs. in this car...
this car is worth 60k even not 75
local taxes not on list price lefty
Bought a 2014 Camaro SS 1LE 35K miles, under 25K, feels like I stole it Lol I bet the bone stock LS3 will give Z28 a run for it's money difference. What 50 grand? It's been a while since I've driven such a powerful car and I've only had it a few days. I'm not sure I'll ever have the guts to open it all the way up, mine goes 110 in third too Lol or fear the ticket with this thing. Thanks for the info...
Isn't it Z/28?
75k would be worth it, if it was a daily driver.
Go for it
CHEVROLET. $$$$$$
I take the ZL1 all day
3800 pounds is saving weight? lol heavy as hell!
It's light for muscle car
The GTR is 100lbs more so looks like you didn't know that either. Bah aha judge something and you might look like a complete dumbass
Too bad no one here was talking about the GTR, looks like another keyboard warrior showed up.
Good thing the GTR with all its luxury and AWD system still only weights 100 pounds more.
Аппаратный аппарат.
My fav car is the camero but damn this thing sounds pretty bad. But I still love the design.
75.000 $ and simple electric bulb lights ? Seriously ? No Xenons or smth ? Fucking GM needs to stop bad quality shit...
Did you compare this to the GT3? LOL the Z28 is admirable, but let's not get carried away here
It has been already tested against the GT3. Results were not surprising but the Pro driver preferred Z28 that is all I will say.
Your talking about the 911 GT3, Porsche just recalled after 2 cars already caught fire?
why do you compare a 130k car to a 75k car? if you have money then by all means buy the GT3. This is for us poor, money conscious folks.
Can I compare a Pagani hyuara to the GT3? doesnt seem fair does it?
I would drive this thing everyday...well on nice sunny days. This thing would be even deadlier with a heads and cam upgrade!
0-60?
3.8 sec
No fucking way I will pay 75,000 for this car chevy is really tripping smh...
💪
buy what? ...the GT-3?...now?
85 grand for a Camaro? (75 + dealer markup)
This car's performance is entirely predicated on the
use of the Trofeo tires which wear out after 20 miles.
Here's American ingenuity: Ford LMP Ecoboost race car forums.themustangsource.com/f772/daytona-prototypes-le-mans-517336/
Video is too technical
Too bad the LS7 motors are defective
In the end it's still a heavily
made up pig.
At least Corvete Z06 had a point.
bezor Ta the z28 is motortrends's best driver's car so go and cry in your 1970 minivan....
GTFO....I will get a GT3 for that much, a used one. At the end of the day this is a Chevy, camaro....
This car has 1 speaker? Lol my mom had a 72 pinto with one front speaker. Cheap.
And the Pinto was one hell of a track car... sure do miss ‘em.
Taillights are horrible
Bobby Croghan I know I'm 2 years late. I used to think that 2 years ago but tbh they actually grew on me.
Bobby Croghan I think they still look amazing in 2017
@@salvadorlopez-ol4ul they grew on me too
A
I rather you spend more time to tell us more about your personal driving experience instead of all the aerodymatic bulshit, we can find it online with pages and pages of info...
the FR-S will beat this car any day of the week in a freaken straight line!
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha...
davie crocket hint track car

I'll take the Dodge Challenger Hellcat

Nothing wrong with the land whale
Over priced. Car
Hahah still halogen light bulps, americans...
Can't get past the ugliness...
gtr is pretty ugly too
not that ugly though *****
it looks better than a gtr, but still pretty ugly
***** so the GTR must be very ugly dont you think
***** i would rather say ,the camaro looks like a camaro
The zeta platform is just too heavy. You can't fix a problem that's fundamental to the chassis. Next camaro will hopefully be based on alpha platform and be lighter.
