Thanks for the video. I just ordered mine a few minutes after watching your video. One question - Is it possibly to get the loop diameter smaller? Or does the smaller diameter loop have to be pre-made before doing the twists? I am asking because i want to make micro lures as well. Thanks in advance
the first fish i ever caught was a 3 pound large mouth when i was 4 years old and caught it on a yellow with black spots rooster tail with yellow and black feather type hook back in 1975, and now after all these years i haven`t touched one of these spinner baits since then, i tried to find some like the one i had back then and i cant find one, i still have the original one from when i was 4 yrs old and i take it with me to bass pro or other stores, , maybe it`s time i start making my own, also it seems to me i caught more fish with these lures than anything else (other than minnows when i was lazy), thanks for the video sir
Good job with your video and explanation. I recently purchased a Twistech and a Hagen's wire bender, both of which are much more expensive tools that perform the same function, but with larger wire up to .051 wire. I had forgotten about this very cool low-cost tool. It is a very good deal and and excellent starter tool for those wishing to make spinners without spending much money. (most fisherman) I also bought the booklet, which I agree is invaluable for beginners. My Twistech tackle maker (Magnum version) cost about $150. My Hagen's wire bender cost about $200. At about $30, Jan's Tack-l-tool is a no-brainer. I wish I had one about 60 years ago when I was a youngster. :-)
I bought this watching your videos. I did not get the book you say it makes quite a bit of different lures can you make more videos of different lures that he can make?
Oh, wow! I didn't know they had a kit. This might be just what I need. I've been using jewelry pliers. They work well, but something like this would open up all new possibilities.
Shouldn't the hook end be barrel wrapped too. I know it might take a big fish, but a straight wire can be pulled in a straight line. I envision fish pulling that end out while swimming away with hook in mouth and beads floating to bottom.
Never seen one yet that has been pulled loose by a fish. Remember the hook is supported by the wire going to the loop at the other end, and held by the wire fed through the lure body. I seriously doubt two strong adults (you & a friend), several hundred pounds, could pull that hook loose. Hell, the hook would probably break first.
Not yet. they sell the Hagens Professional Heavy Duty Wire Former but it's $170. and will only go up to .041. You have to buy the Heavy Wire Adapter Adapter Kit for $40.75 to go to .051.
I guess it would help make the loops on the ends. I'm not really sure. I've never made an Alabama rig. Where I live you can only have one hook on the rig, so I don't bother.
The tool will only go up to .031" Depending on the size of fish your going after, I use a .029 to .031 most of the time. I wouldn't go any smaller unless you are making ultra light tackle.
Probably .024" in the video. I use .024 to .031 depending on the size fish I will be going after. The tool will only handle up to .031". I do go higher for large fish and use pliers.
Perhaps this tool could be more useful if the diameter of the hooked rod was a lesser diameter. Then on could make smaller loops for smaller inline spinners. I like smaller loops for all of my inline spinners...also shorter inline spinners in general so long as the blades spin completely freely.

I use the Worth Tackle Wire Forming Tool to make smaller lures. It's capable of making even very small (Panther-Martin size) in-line spinners for trout and similar. By the way, I also use the Jann's Netcraft (jannsnetcraft.com) book "Tackle Tricks with Wire," which works with this Worth tool as well.

Can I use this tool to make wire snelled hooks we use for anchovies/herring in salmon trolling. Thanks
Do you know the lead weight they use on mepps flying c for the 7/8 ounce lure trying to get my lure to same weight or as close to the flying c weight
And where can I buy them thanks
Sorry, I don't know. You can go to www.mepps.com/products/
and at the bottom of the page you can contact them.
I still have my dads one that he got back in the mid 70’s.
It’s still working good .
Thanks for the video.
Shouldn't the hook end be barrel wrapped too. I know it might take a big fish, but a straight wire can be pulled in a straight line. I envision fish pulling that end out while swimming away with hook in mouth and beads floating to bottom.
I put a dab of super glue on the front of the body. that's enough to keep a fish from pulling it out.

Just bought one can’t wait to try it…
Hope you enjoy it!

It is now 2021; Do you know if they have made a new tool that will handle .051 or 062 wire for making Bucktails ?
Not yet. they sell the Hagens Professional Heavy Duty Wire Former but it's $170. and will only go up to .041. You have to buy the Heavy Wire Adapter Adapter Kit for $40.75 to go to .051.
Would this work on .035 diameter wire?
The tool is only rated to .031
I live in Australia we can not buy a tackle tool can you hook me up where you got yours thank you

Is this unit good for making Alabama rig / Umbrella Rigs?
I guess it would help make the loops on the ends.
I'm not really sure. I've never made an Alabama rig. Where I live you can only have one hook on the rig, so I don't bother.
How much you're tools
Can I order that'...
You can only buy this tool at. www.jannsnetcraft.com/wire-forming-tools/041571000006.aspx
Poor skipping over making the loop.
What wire diameter do you recommend for that type of lure?
The tool will only go up to .031" Depending on the size of fish your going after, I use a .029 to .031 most of the time.
I wouldn't go any smaller unless you are making ultra light tackle.
anything in the book about forming spinnerbait wire?
no it does not. "The Little Blue Bender" is a great tool for that.
I use my right hand for things like that also, but I'm right handed.. I'm definitely going to buy one of those kits... Cool video.!
I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

a wire diameter of .031 is enough for Tuna?
No. I only fish fresh water fish so I don't know what you would need. But .031 is definitely not large enough for tuna.

What size wire did you use in the video
