Thank you for your video! super informative. I'm assuming that for laser printer paper there's no need for fixing the ink to the paper, so the whole point with the various sprays can be completely ignored?
Cool....I've never attempted to make my own decals, but would like to in the future, especially for dioramas, and, I have one to build to put my Arado into! So, this will be a useful instructional reference to guide me! Cheers....the cat herder! : )
Hey this came up in my feed and I am looking forward to part two. There was a bottle of Liquid Decal Film you held up and said you were not sure what it was for. This video is from so long ago that I don't imagine it is still the case, but I thought I might write what my understanding of it's purpose is. Older kit decals will often shatter if used ( yes Airfix we mean you ). Applying Liquid Decal Film is supposed to hold it all together so that they do not shatter after being put in water. It can work, but my experience is that more than one coat is needed. It does work over laser printed decals. Apologies if I am writing what you already know.
Many people have commented about your excess talking, this is simply constructive criticism. They are trying to help you... nothing more. Stated in your video yourself, "this is all about learning." If you ever want to be valuable resource or be successful RUclips channel, learning to take constructive criticism is a must. I agree with the comments... there is some good information in the video, but you would have more positive feed back and more views if the video wasn't filled with your life story. We came here to learn how to print scale decals, not to hear long and meaningless back stories. Perhaps use a script.... you can share a lot of the information but do it quicker.... of course you will be offended by this comment and probably lash out like a child... in honesty we are doing you a favor....
thanks for the video....do you possibly have another suggestion for a fixative? I checked the Papilio website and they're charging $16.00 to ship the can to Southern CA. Thanks
Hello Will, great video. I appreciate the content and am referencing it for my work. In the video you mentioned “Chris and Alex” that they had a video on this as well. Could you please provide a link or the name of the video plz? I can’t seem to find it. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Hi Will. Just come across your Channel. Enjoying your Tuts. I live in the UK. Just checked out the Papilio Decal Fixer on Amazon UK. Apparently it isn't sold outside of mainland U.S. Can you recommend an alternative that I will be able to obtain ? Cheers. Keep up the good work.
Thank you, Will, for a very comprehensive series of decal videos! I have reviewed parts 1 and 2 three times now, making sure I did not miss anything, taking notes as you spoke. I do have a few very detailed questions perhaps you can assist me with...can I email you with those questions rather than taking up a lot of space here? Thanks again.
it's not a sealer it's to restore them back to the way they were . When they get dry up wrinkled & peeling off the card of the Decals so you airbrush it or brush it on it depends on how big they are to be usable again.
No offense but so far I've gone 4 minutes into this video and you haven't said anything. I'm sure you have very valuable information but I would love to hear it sooner than later
Exactly. Fucking leave newb. I hope he never stops making these brilliant videos loaded with golden nuggets and you miss every bit of it and it keeps pissing you off. Keep rolling Will. You have a loyal base who loves your info
I have to agree. Good information in your video, and thank you for making it, but there is waaay too much talking about failures, philosophy, etc. just get to what works, and how to do it. That’s my advice for future videos. Which you can take or leave, of course.
Hi Will, can you give me any guidance on applying waterslide decals to clear plastic such as model canopies an windows? Does the plastic need to have some form of clear coat on it first?
hey Will you know that MICRO LIQUID DECAL FILM Ml-12 1oz. it's use for the You know the older model kits that have been sitting around like the classic ones or collectible ones so the Decals that come with them are all wrinkled & dry up & peeling off will that's to restore them back to the way they were makes them usable again, I should know because I buy these old classic model kits and a lot of those model kits come with the Decals all wrinkled dry up and peeling off the decals card so I spray some of the MICRO LIQUID DECAL FILM Ml-12 with my airbrush or just brush it on it depends on how big they are it restores them back to the way the way they were. It took 7 years on how to use it now you know hey what type of printer do you use to make your decals please Printers name & model number please so I can buy one for making decals for my WWI & WWII aircraft ,tanks and ships 1/72 scale please not too expensive $100 to $150 dollar printer let me know the one you have or if you know a good printed i can buy for decals. thanks !
Is it possible to print decals into a clear paper that sticks? Like Stickers? I found one from ebay DIY Ink Jet Stickers Vinyl GLOSS For Inkjet, 5 Sheets, 8.5"x11" Waterproof Decal Can I use that instead of going through cans to dry up etc?
All that explaining and you were not clear on what is "decal water". Is it just tap water with an additive? Does one have distilled water? Is it water at all?
Awesome. You might have said it and I missed it but all I remembered was you may or may not be able to get by with vinegar added to the decal water.. so I thought decal water was already some special mixture. Good to know.
and you must be in love with your own asinine comments. if you don't like my delivery, which last i checked, you didn't pay a dime for, then fuck off to some other channel where you get 5 minutes of nothing.
as a newbie making decals are too technical-ish for me, is there any method if i can scan my decal and just resize it then print? is that even possible?
I'm sorry Will that I offended you but I only meant to give some feedback. I admit it IS offensive, but if you want to give a clear message on RUclips please be shorter in your talking. People are known to only have a few minutes to concentrate themselves on a speaker but 18:05min is over the top. No I'm not a Cocker on a convention but as I'm surfing for a knowledge it takes more than watching only 1 video! Not everbody says the same and knowledge can be very conflictive on the internet. So yeah I should have gone to sleep when tiredness attacked me. I think it was the wrong video on the wrong moment for me ;-).
well, i can at least respect your response even if i disagree. one of the reasons i started doing these is because in my own infosearch i found lots of short - and useless - videos. no detail. so i decided to be thorough regardless of the time it took. as a result, i get about 10 "awesome thanks for being thorough" for every one rude son of a bitch who tries to tell me how i need to do MY videos that i put up here for FREE. so, yeah, those comments make me a little testy. and i do appreciate the response. if you'd been that nice to start with my rejoinder would've been different. i just have no patience for rudeness nor see why i should. so we cool.
says the guy who responds thus "4 minutes? give me a fucking break. it's not my fault you have the attention span of a cocker spaniel at a squirrel convention" If you expunged all the irrelevant discourses and focused on the topic will be great video. As you say yourself, you're long winded
Yeah, I suppose the Papilio stuff works great, only problem is when I googled them, almost EVERY item needed that you recommend is "O U T O F S T O C K" at their site!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That gets a "big WHOOP!!"
Please people, a how to video does not need to include the entire process of why I want to make a video! If you have something to say, just say it. Sorry but you are a waste of time and I quit watching long before you ever actually imparted any wisdom.
and your comment is a waste of time. if you don't like my style, fine, but nobody gives a fuck about your unqualified internet opinion. also, go fuck yourself.
well that really showed us how to design, size and print the decals out, and then showed them being applied great job .....wait did I miss that !!!
Will Thank you for all your effort for yourself and all us that regularly
watch your channel . Keep going and don't quit! thanks again ! Eric Garrison
Thanks for the comprehensive discussion on printing decals. You saved us a lot of experimentation!
Great video - love your channel -your attention to detail without becoming anal is rare in the modeling world.

You must be in love with your own voice !

Unfortunately I don't know an alternative that's exactly like it. But you can use clear gloss lacquer.
Thank you, Will, for a very comprehensive series of decal videos! I have reviewed parts 1 and 2 three times now, making sure I did not miss anything, taking notes as you spoke. it's not a sealer it's to restore them back to the way they were . When they get dry up wrinkled & peeling off the card of the Decals so you airbrush it or brush it on it depends on how big they are to be usable again.
thanks for the tip - i'm getting the microscale paper! (since i'm doing very fine black text and need a laser for the purpose)
No offense but so far I've gone 4 minutes into this video and you haven't said anything. I'm sure you have very valuable information but I would love to hear it sooner than later

Sorry I thought I did explain that. It's just tapwater with either microset or white vinegar added to it
Awesome. You might have said it and I missed it but all I remembered was you may or may not be able to get by with vinegar added to the decal water.. so I thought decal water was already some special mixture. Good to know.
Try 90% water and 10% white vinegar.
Why the vinegar?
Great video But try less talking & show more doing of the work please way to much talking.
and you must be in love with your own asinine comments. if you don't like my delivery, which last i checked, you didn't pay a dime for, then fuck off to some other channel where you get 5 minutes of nothing.
as a newbie making decals are too technical-ish for me, is there any method if i can scan my decal and just resize it then print? is that even possible?
sure. scanning them is totally valid. how you get to the jpg isn't important as long as the resolution is good.
Thanks I Made My Own Decals For Wrestling Figures
Show more of the work & way way way less talking please I beg you , your killing me by talking me to death. sorry
then watch another channel or get a better attention span.
Papillo paper works great
Hej såg en annan video där använder man oljan i den lilla flaskan till vaxljus stryker på ett lager innan o efter dekalen appliceras
Talking...Talking...Talking...I'm falling asleep!

i was wondering could you make me a decals
Great info in the end but you take way to long to present it. Skip all the stuff that didn't work and tell us what works for you and why. JM2¢
Buy a Alps printer and use BelDecal paper.
where would you even find one?
good luck with that venture
Yeah, I suppose the Papilio stuff works great, only problem is when I googled them, almost EVERY item needed that you recommend is "O U T O F S T O C K" at their site!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That gets a "big WHOOP!!"

Sorry I hit your "FU" button so hard. I was just trying to impart some constructive criticism. Hope you keep encouraging others to view your stuff.
then let me impart some actual constructive criticism. learn some tact. read how to win friends and influence people by dale carnegie.
Says the guy who just told me to "go ____ myself" I'm done with you.....BYE!
lol entitled much? what exactly do you expect when you open with "you're a waste of time"? dumb shit.
6 minutes in before you even began to tell us how to start. Unbelievable, but actually not that unusual for american vids.
well, then fuck off back to wherever you're from that it's normal to be so tactless. lol
