- I was invited on a farm in Otago New Zealand for a quick demonstration of how some Farmers are now using drones to herd sheep! Is it game over for the faithful sheep dog?
Drones have several other great benefits for farmers too such as: Checking water tank levels, checking fencing for any damage, crop drops, food drops amongst various other perks.

Nice drone video!! But the drone still needs to be operated by the farmer. The sheep dog could be left alone to herd the sheeps while the farmer does other tasks. Now farmer is busy with his drone.
Thanks..On most NZ farms the sheep dogs need letting out of kennels and transporting to fields, this was all filmed from the owners massive house balcony.. so quick and easy just a bit of fun. ;)

Nice video! How much stabilization was done? Or the Inspire 2 is that stable?
Few stablizations, i2 is so smooth. I tend to add warp stabilize 10% to a few clips here and there just to iron-out one or two bumps.

what FPS do you use in rendering your videos 24 fps or 30 fps? just curious
I shoot all in 30fps some of my videos are in 24fps for example. Canada video and the summit one. If I'm honest I don't like 24fps for drone footage as it becomes very 'stuttery' in places. 30fps way smoother.

It was custom made
Beautiful footage but fear not, the humble sheepdog is still and will remain the best, most efficient and preferred method of working sheep especially over huge areas like NZ.
Many have tried to match it and designed / tested equipment like drones, robotic equipment, super pimped up hybrid hover quads and bikes and to date, nothing comes close to doing even half the job of a good trained working dog.
There's a saying it would take three pro athletes to do the same work as one dog. Not just three humans they would need to be pro-athletes and long distance / cross county / endurance and triathlon daft fitness levels.
Dogs are cheap if not free to run and don't need anything other than food, water, odd bit of attention and affection and a warm spot to sleep at night.
I doubt sheepdogs will become a thing of the past any time soon.

The dogs will have to unionize and strike over unacceptable working conditions. It could get ugly and violent when the dogs take to bringing the "scab" drones down.
