I love how this turned out and that you modified the original plan. I don't see the plan in the description, though, or on their site, so maybe they don't have it anymore? I'll be now that you've done projects for years, you'd probably do more pocket-hole construction throughout. I think I would. With your great directions, I'm thinking of creating this for my deck! Thanks Megan from the past!
YES!!!! I ALWAYS stain all my pieces before I put them together, and this is the first time I've ever watched a video suggesting it.... SO much easier...
I'm just starting out wood working and I love seeing ppl create something out of a simple piece of wood. I've been picking up my tools a little at a time and one of the things I dont have is one of the things you said you didnt have, and that was the jig. I need to get one of those and then learn how to use it. I may try and build me a couch, however, I think I'll make a smaller version because I don't have the space. Thank you for making this video, it was very helpful!
I realized later that I used the kreg jig incorrectly in this video. It still got the job done, but there’s a better way to use it for sure! I love learning about wood working and sharing it with kind people like you who give such positive feedback.
OMG!! I have been wanting to do this for so long !! A tree just fell on our lower deck and crushed the couch which I felt was always small. And I said to myself, I would love to have a couch that is the whole leanth of the deck . But to buy one like you said, would cost an arm and a leg. My wife is currently looking for a replacement to match the rest of the set. Way more than yours. The only problem is we have opposite taste in almost everything. Not sure how it lasted 20 years!!😂😂. Anyway, wish me luck!!!
Hi Megan, many thanks for posting this video. A friend asked if I could make her a bench to match a photo she'd found on the net. I found your video which was an almost identical design and built it today for her in 12 hours. The bench I made was a bit shorter than yours. Thanks so much for the inspiration.
Thank you for the instruction video while you show your work. I am building my first ever outdoor furniture...well first build of anything of that size. I truly appreciate seeing the steps actual being done not just small diagrams on a screen or paper. It has given me better idea wtf I need to do. Puts a 3d plan in my head instead of a 2d paper concept. High 5 and wish me luck 🤪
Great work! So far this is the best. I'm getting ready to have some build for my pergola and it's huge. The only different thing that I would do, is build them slanted at least one couch. I've been told that if I have the back and seat slanted it's lots more comfortable. We will see how it turns out. Thanks for your video.
Looks great! If I could offer one small suggestion to anyone who wants to build this though..use exterior wood glue (ie titebond III) and the exterior screws. The joints will never weaken.
@@MeganBell Hey sweetheart. Thanks for the awesome looking sofa. I tried to download your plans for the sofa, but their seems to be an issue with the link. Thanks in advance!!
Next time you use your Kreg Jig, you don’t need to have the board in its final place to drill the pocket hole. Also remove the jig to install the screw. For your first time it looks really good! I made a “U” shaped sectional using similar design. If I could post pics I would. Keep it up! 😁
OMG!!! That looks so good Megan!! I'd love a a love seat version for my back patio! I would get the fabric and sew all my own cushions though. But only because I'm on a sewing kick right now.
Very nice. One tip- when making things with dimensional lumber I like to cut the radius off the edges with a table saw. (If you have access to one) this helps makes them look less like 2 x 4’s.
Thank you for this video. I’m searching for furniture making videos that use regular power tools a home owner would likely have (as opposed to expensive professional tools).
This looks really good, just for next time using the pocket hole jig, always make your pocket holes on the face of the board into the end grain. Much stronger joint that way and much less chance of tear out. This is about a year old so you probably figured that out by now though. Very nice job!
Very nicely done. I've built many things with 2x4. Just a tip, use a counter sink with long drill bits on your cordless, to pre drill and set the screws, so much easier, doesn't wear out your cordless, also using quick set bits to change fast between screw tips and countersink. From experience, trying to drive a 2 1/4 screw into 2 2x4s is pretty tough.
majemeryn thank you so much! I love that I have inspired you! I highly recommend this project, I have used my balcony non stop since we built this. I’ve even taken a few naps!
Looks great. Perfect for the upcoming spring/summer in the Northeast. You might need a bigger coffee & end table with the couch though. I guess you’ll have to build matching coffee & end tables. Keep up the good work.
Step 1: GET a set of sawhorses to put your boards on. Step 2: Build a chop saw table or go buy a B & D Workmate. Ha ha ha! I just can't bend down like you to work I guess. 😁😁😁 All joking aside, I really like it. Looks nice enough to use inside as well. Just thinking about your sanding. Personally, I think that I would have hit it sanding grits of 80 to 150 to 220. But again, that's just me. Really like the finish color. Ya done well!
@@MeganBell ha ha ha ha ha! Go get the screw-on kind that you slip 2 X 4s into. They're inexpensive (not cheap), collapsible, versatile, and will last you for decades. I'm using some of my dad's and they have to be at least 60 years old and they were used to build a 4-H Camp with! 😁😁😁
Hi George I'm from the uk and iv done it.....order from fast builders the delivery is free on orders over £40 it cost me around £80 but I made another one at 6ft long I found there wood so much better quality than b&q and wicks!
Needs a high back. Out of all the outside furniture I have seen being built they always have the short backs to them. They never make them to where you can lean back up against it at least make it level with the top of the head and maybe no further. other than that what a great bill I love it.😀😀😀😀
I love this. Thanks so much for sharing. Now, I’m sharing with my husband. I’m no where near as brave as you...I’ll need help. And, by help I mean I’m going to ask my husband to make this. 😂😂😂
I always love when people say what they would have done differently. That is extremely helpful. Nice work
YES!
I have seen many videos of making these outdoor sofa but girl this was by far one of the best and easiest 👌🏼 thanks for sharing.
Yay! Thank you!
Yess so true
Just found your page, and love all your projects. Just bought a house, and will be doing this for the back patio. This turned out so beautiful.

Thank you so much for making this so easy to understand! I'm new to wood working and am very excited to start this project.

This was my intention, so it pleases me that it is well received. Thank you!
You did very well with your outdoor couch. Very similar to what I would like in the backyard - thank you for making it look easy.
You are so welcome!

This came out Amazing, the carpet and the colour stain the colour of cushions everything blended so well. 👌🏻
This video is the holy grail for me right now. I can’t wait to try it!!!!! THANK YOU 🙏🏾
Iv started this project today! It's almost finished just need to screw the back rest and stain it! Thank you! Ck from the uk!
Awesome!! I’m so glad to hear about it!
I just saw this video now but I'm glad I haven't purchased anything cause this is exactly what I've been looking for !!
Great tip on staining before assembly. Thanks.
This is a great build and your modifications from the Ryobi nation were great.

Well done summer is ending here in Canada but my sunrom is open all year long! thank you for sharing
Thank-you so much because I needed to know how to modify the length for a longer outdoor sofa. Great video 👍👍

Pattymac Knits thank you patty! I wonder what you would use to fill the cushions if they’re for outdoor use? Is there a special foam?
One thing I can do is sew would love to learn lol.

Hi what did the whole thing cost to make

Love the contemporary rustic look exactly what I was looking for! You did a great job.
Thank you. I’m going to make it. The patio furniture cost in the store is ridiculous!
Looks Really good Megan Bell...! I am going to make one...! Thanks Al
It’s going down, I’m trying it. Thanks for the video.
Love the additional length of this couch. Totally doing this! Thanks!

I have seen the Anna white project as well, but love yours! Thank you for the tip on staining the wood first!
Really a simple and good sofa my lady,
Vikram thank you!
Aha This gives me a great idea. Thank you so very much. I love it. Just absolutely love it.
I am surely going to build this for my patio..
Looks great! Gotta love porch sittin
What a great project! I know this would be a favorite spot on the patio. You are inspiring me!
majemeryn thank you so much! I love that I have inspired you! I highly recommend this project, I have used my balcony non stop since we built this. I’ve even taken a few naps!
OMG this is dope! I may try this and make 2. Will def save some major cash! Thx
Really helpful that you mentioned the measures...
Thank you for the very informative details of this project. I am now inspired to go out and do the same.
We are currently working on this for our front porch! So excited. Excellent measurements and directions 👍
Very nice, I built this sofa but it came out at 27" deep. 24" plus the 2 lengths at 3".
Super duper! I can't wait to try this DIY project.
Beautiful and classy piece!!
The couch is awesome! I would love a lazy afternoon nap on that!
Deb Parks and I’ve already had a few!! Lol!
I love it!!! Really looks like something I would love to try. Thanks
So glad! Please do!
I’m about to start on this project I got all the wood sitting on my garage. Wish me luck lol
Woo! Good luck Lin! We love ours.
How did it go?

Awesome! I'm gonna ask my husband to try and do this 😉
I'm making one right now for my porch!!! I loved it ❤️ I wish I could send you a picture of my outcome OMG, I had to make this it's the perfect size.
Making this tomorrow! Love your video and easy to follow instructions!!! ❤️
Hi Bell! Well thought out. I like your idea.
This turned out great, I wish you would include your specific cuts in the description
Next time I will, thank you for the suggestion

That looks fantastic - good job. I can't belive how little you pay for your timber - wish it was like that in the UK.
Had no idea there was a difference from country to country but I suppose everything is priced differently!

That's good to know, but who are fast builders? Just googled them and can't find a company selling wood.
That’s the downside of living on an island compared to a huge country with lots of forests!
I have to do this. Today is the day.. beautiful ❤️
You need to make up a unique hashtag so when people make your designs we can all see them on IG or FB
I love that idea thank you for suggesting that! I’m on it
I've just made one of your sofas it came out great thank you
That’s awesome, Albert! Glad it worked out
Love it! I’m going to use the same stain 😊
We just made our from your video and we are so excited!!!
That is SO awesome! Enjoy 💛
Lovely job explained very well
Thank you!
Came out fantastic.
Very detailed and easy to follow. Thank you!
I am tall... this couch would work for me if I wanted to lie down! Thanks for the idea!
Wow great job and it looks great too. !
pretty good work / im looking for a way to implement this inside since i hate buying furniture ,
Sooo good! Love it! I want to make this! Inspired!
Please do!
Well I know what I'm doing this weekend 👍🏼👍🏼 love this
Omg this is exactly what I wanted to do
Thanks a billion!!! 😊
So glad it’s helpful! 💛
That’s awesome I love it I can build 2 of these one long one like you did and the other a little shorter thanks for sharing 😀👍👍
ocean374 I don’t remember the dimensions for Ana whites original plans for this couch but you could probably just use hers for the shorter one!
Thank you I found ana whites plans now I have both dimensions
Kesinlikle çok iyi oldu.bende balkonuma yapmayı planlıyordum umarım yapabilirim.😊
that is awesome ,,, looks nice save money and last long time
Turned out awesome!
Thank you!!
Have watched many videos this one is easier and looks simple.
Looks great! What support other than the screws into the arms does the seat have, if 3 people sit on it are they just held up be 4 screws?
Gostei muito parabéns pela sua criatividade.
I would be happy with this with no cushions. Well done.
Oh wow thanks for sharing ❤ I’m going to try this

Thank you it looks amazing something I'm going to attempt, wish me luck .
Excelente video gracias... por favor sus
Medidas del sofa para realizar en casa ..
Que sigan los exitos
Wow this is awesome beautiful outside couch!
Thank you! We are still enjoying it!
Love this!!!! do you think I could put a extra piece in arms to keep pillows from falling out onto ground?
Absolutely!!
The dog really likes it. :)
I must do this! Thanks for the IKEA cushions too :)
Would you consider adding an extra central leg to add extra support? Never made anything before but considering this as a first project 💪🏻
Possibly! It hasn't been an issue for us, but if you're unsure it won't hurt to add it.
Totally going to do this! Thanks for the inspiration
Thanks for your video will don regards from saudi Arabia ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I love this. Thanks so much for sharing. Now, I’m sharing with my husband. I’m no where near as brave as you...I’ll need help. And, by help I mean I’m going to ask my husband to make this. 😂😂😂
Haha! Love that
Amazing project, already saved to try it someday
It looks so nice. One question - is it a comfortable couch?
We spend quite a bit of time on it. It’s an outdoor couch so not nearly as comfortable as our indoor couch, but comfortable enough
I can't wait to try! Thank you!
This is really good. We're definitely gonna try this! Thanks a lot!!
Wonderful! Thanks Miyon!
Incredible how cheap things used to be just 5 years ago! Those prices sounds almost unbelievable
Well done and well explained. Will definitely try this.thanks
Thank you!
Very nice work!
I Appreciate it!
