It's all so doable but the tax is scary. I imported a Datsun 620 from the US and it was great because its over 40 years old so historic vat prices. Thanks for the video, very well laid out 👍

Great video. Ordered a Toyota Celsior in the same price bracket and mileage as your Cresta and it's due to arrive in December. I thought it was this simple from reading HMRC's website. But then I contacted them, and they put the fear of God into me. 1st they told me I can't release the car from the docks myself, I have to get a shipping agent to do it - if I wanted to do it myself I need to go on a course and get a software delveoper to write me software that allows me to complete the paperwork.🤪 I'm not bullshitting - I could send you the emails. Then they said (after the agent clears it from customs and I paid the duty & VAT) I still need to do the NOVA myself with a C384 form. Then they said that form was discontinued on the 1st of October and I now need to send them all the paperwork from Japan, the shipping/customs clearance documents, and a valuation from either a UK dealer, or a car club, or the invoice from Japan as long as it's not out of date by 3 months. But my invoice will be out of date by 10 days when the car arrives and the Toyota club don't do valuations (HMRC also said it can't be an online source as well🤪) so I'm hoping I can get a valuation from a UK importer. They should know it takes 3 months for the shipping and the invoice was made/dated weeks before the car was loaded in Japan. Meanwhile the shipping agent I spoke to said I shouldn't have to do any of this. But others I contacted for a quote said I did have to deal with the NOVA side of it. I'm just hoping that if it all goes sideways it will be in a good way, and I don't have to contact HMRC at all, because they're plonkers.

Yes the C384 Form is no longer required which is 1 less form to fill out before the car arrives 😅 Its really as simple as the video says, I have never had to get a vehicle “value’d” thats unheard of 😅 you only need to provide the forms highlighted in my video. The port authority will handle the NOVA for you, just pay them extra to do the clearance for you, trust me - its worth the money Dont stress buddy! Youll be driving your V8 Toyota Limo soon 😎
@@videos4u805 No, from Royal Trading under JCT cars (Japanese Car Trade). The car seems ok except the temp gauge is going up quickly over operating temperature. Head gasket is ok, but I need to go through all the parts connected to that. For all I know it is the head gasket, but it passed the test. But if it's just the temp gauge, the sender, thermostat, radiator, or gauge cluster then I've got no complaints from Royal Trading. It's HMRC and the shipping agents you've got to worry about - I used Yes2Ship and they conned me out of hundreds. I'll use Armacup if I do this again. Good question. You can drive it to the MOT station to a pre booked MOT test no problem, the only problem with doing that is driving without insurance. you would need to find an insurance company that will insure a vehicle on the VIN number only untill a permanent number plate is assigned to the vehicle. A much easier method is to trailer the vehicle to the MOT station.
Thank you very much for this very useful video, My question is, how did u send the document to Port Authority of Newcastle via email or by post, R thy efficient for reply?
Your video is fantastic, very concise, well organized. By the way, do you think it is feasible to pre-install rear fog light in Japan and ship to UK aim to pass MOT test easier?
Let's say your car arrives at the port in the UK. If you get a flatbed to pick it up from the port do you go home or to the not yet centre? If you go home you can't drive it to the test centre can you, as it's got plates?
its bit of a grey area... I'm sure if you got stopped with valid insurance (insured on the VIN number only) and a pre booked MOT test, the police would understand, but its alot less hassle to just get it recovered to the MOT station to save any hassle
You have spent a lot of money on a car that doesnt look too good, you also havent seen the car before shipping it. Is it worth the money, why would you get it from Japan?
To pass an MOT all it needs it will need to have added is a rear fog light, thats the only thing missing from a JDM vehicle If the vehicle is UNDER ten years old then its a slightly different story… it needs to pass type approval which means getting a super MOT, I have no personal experience of this though
Thanks mate! Hmmm insurance isnt my strong point. Adrian Flux will insure anything but are quite expensive, thats pretty much all the advice i could give you on that. Hope it helps! Best website for buying a vehicle: there are several in the video description which i would recommend, SBT take payment in GBP so its usually the easiest for your first time!
hi, mate. just a question, after making some research about duty and tax. i found that the first one is 10% (cost+shipping) and 20% is tax (cost+shipping+duty) why your ones are differ, I will appreciate your answer.
@@ilishmaach all depends on the size of vehicle and destination to be honest. Prices have increased slightly over the past 6 months or so... but still, ask the sales agent for the final CIF price, they can usually do a deal with you
Good video, thanks. Few questions I have, who deals with things like Speedo changes from Km to miles? I’m looking at say a 2011-15 car, that have say digital odo meter, gauges in KM. Does someone have to get into the gauges and change? Are things like the rear fog light just a 3rd party item bolted to your bumper, or do they wire up the rear lights for fog?
I have never used them personally, but they look like an auction agent... ...in my video I explain how auction agents charge a high fee for their service (27:20) so I usually avoid that buying format and buy vehicles from dealers who already have the car in stock
Hey mate, awesome video! I am trying to ship a 2014 Toyota Landcruiser 76 wagon, are there any restrictions that I need to be aware of? Can I even import something like this to the UK? Thanks a lot!

@@BENJY-JP thanks for the advice
You have spent a lot of money on a car that doesnt look too good, you also havent seen the car before shipping it. Is it worth the money, why would you get it from Japan?
Hi, want to import a Honda acty to the UK, what's the tax you pay on your one? Nice video, keep up the good work
Do you have to make any mods to the vehicle, to make it compliant with UK regs?
To pass an MOT all it needs it will need to have added is a rear fog light, thats the only thing missing from a JDM vehicle
If the vehicle is UNDER ten years old then its a slightly different story… it needs to pass type approval which means getting a super MOT, I have no personal experience of this though
Hi Benny. Great video mate. How difficult is it to insure an import? Do you recommend any websites for buying a vehicle?
Thanks mate! Hmmm insurance isnt my strong point. Adrian Flux will insure anything but are quite expensive, thats pretty much all the advice i could give you on that. Hope it helps! Best website for buying a vehicle: there are several in the video description which i would recommend, SBT take payment in GBP so its usually the easiest for your first time!
@@BENJY-JP thanks buddy!
hi, mate.
just a question, after making some research about duty and tax. i found that the first one is 10% (cost+shipping) and 20% is tax (cost+shipping+duty)
why your ones are differ, I will appreciate your answer.
what if you use an exporter and buy the car from an auction, what exporter you recommend
Thank you
Awesome video.
thank you so much! ☺
@@BENJY-JP can I ask how much shipping is these days? Someone said it was around 2500 which seems insane
Are things like the rear fog light just a 3rd party item bolted to your bumper, or do they wire up the rear lights for fog?
thanks!
Unless you can do those modifications yourself, you would need to take it to a garage who can
hi my name kan if car price is 5000$ how much total cast to drive in uk can u tell me total cast including ship cast is will plz
Cool!
The tax is outrageous.
Thank you very much bro for this video. I have one question please , am confused in shipping cost when u pay that payment and to whom?
Can you please guide me about shipping from japan to uk port . How much it will charge. Many thanks
Thank you for your kind words, The person selling the vehicle in Japan will include shipping as part of the CIF Price
Sir what if the cost of car is japan is 1200£ what will be the total of car in uk with everything
What are NSA ? Is this company providing service of custom clearance and telling HMRC I means dealing with HMRC ?
Thoughts on Japan Car Direct? In the process of purchasing an MR2 through them right now.
I have never used them personally, but they look like an auction agent...
...in my video I explain how auction agents charge a high fee for their service (27:20) so I usually avoid that buying format and buy vehicles from dealers who already have the car in stock
@@BENJY-JP got my car a couple weeks ago, went well :)
Hey mate, awesome video! I am trying to ship a 2014 Toyota Landcruiser 76 wagon, are there any restrictions that I need to be aware of? Can I even import something like this to the UK? Thanks a lot!
Not that I’m aware of, its under 10 years old though so it will need type approval and an IVA test, best waiting until its over 10 years old to make it easier
@@BENJY-JP Ah I see, I was not aware of the 10 year portion, thats definitely good to know! thanks mate
Are there any other japan sites you recommend, which are traders you've maybe used in the past?
Sorry seen it in the description 😊
@@sajaadshaukat3855 if I use any more in the future, I will add them to the description too! ☺
