I’d like to say a big thank you for this video!! I have just completed this job but without out this video would have taken years to do! So thank you so much! Just a note for those who are planning to do this: i haven’t drop the coolant as suggested, i only lost about 200ml when disconnected and i blanked the 3 pipe ending keeping the coolant in the heater core. This will save you one job out of the many. I worked on my f10 523i N53 engine
Great video. But I still managed to screw it up. Went to turn on ac and all I’m getting is a loud sound from the blower motor working but no air through vents. Any ideas on where to start?
What were the symptoms that you felt you needed to replace the evaporator? My car is high pressure on the low side and low pressure on the high side… heater and blower works just no a/c working …
I did this job about 10 years ago on a E60 diesel and it is as much pain as it looks…. Now I have an AC issue on my F10 M5 - I’m praying it is not the evaporator! 😢
Great video, man. Love it. I kinda wish your camera hadn't struggled to focus but yea. Also, how long did the entire process take?? I have to get my vehicle's evaporator replaced next week and shudder at the prospect of the vehicle being dirtied in the process.
@@YEVSBUILDShi. My F10 has no cold air inside, a/c is not working, compressor working very well with good pressure, the pipes are warm from compressor in engine room do you have any idea what issue ?
What year was the 535i you replacing the evaporator on? I’m replacing mine on the 2012 535I . The new evaporator part number you purchased will it fit my car?
Any squeaks or rattles from the dash or console after everything was put back together? MY 540 will be gutted soon to perform the same evaporator repair, and I'm nervous it wont be the same afterwards.
I had my 530i done and put back better than factory without a single tell tale sign. However it was done at the dealer. It’s a big job and not for the casual “Shade tree” mechanic
I am thinking about to do this, but it's too hard..:( my AC also leaks, I can hear the hizzle sounds when AC is gone. but after a refill ,it only works for a year or so.. also I can still smell chemical smells.. Did you experience the same ? thanks a lot!!
I have 2017 530 I. I went to the dealer and estimated my cost of $4800 but they offered to pay 75 percent of it. Just makes no sense to me how it goes out because my car only has 50 k miles on it and it's a very tough process.
Mine went at 45K on a pampered 2017 530i. Covered under BMW Platinum extended warranty. Got rid of the car earlier this year. Between this and cooling system problems with melting plastics and leaking water pumps made the decision to get BMW out of my system and not consider their vehicles ever again. I lost all respect for BMW for selling expensive cars with garbage parts made to fail after the 4 year new car warranty expires.
Or another option…a/c delete😂😂. But really, looks like a daunting task. Only worth it if you had another car to dd and would be good to just start it one day and do a little every day in phases until its done.
Man honestly probably a good full 20 hours or so. I mean granted, we would do a little bit of work every day after our full time jobs and it was a total of about a week or so but if we were to brake it down into hours, then probably 15-20.

Doing this right now to my 535i Using your video as a guide ...great job thanks !
Happy to help brotha!
OMG! Didn’t know this was such a massive job.
Yeah definitely will take some time haha

16:25 you can take a 5mm Allen wrench and turn the arrow. That turns the tab sideways. 😅pops right off.
yeah i wish this video was out before i got my f10 lol! max props for going through all that to get baby on the road well acclimated.
Man I take my hat off to you for this job.. Question... For just an expansion valve replacement, is the dash still required to be removed like this?
Great video please tell me where is the evaporator sensor located I didn’t see it in the video

Es la primera vez que bajo un tablero de bmw y tu video me ayudo mucho, muchas gracias! Saludos desde México
Great tutorial !
So if the bmw is not loosing freon but the ac does not work ( blows hot air) could it be the expansion valve the issue?
We just wanted to check for any leaks possibly
Thanks for the instructions.. This is unfortunately on the cards for my f10. How long did the whole job take? I think I'd rather do an engine swap!
The evaporator is not located in the engine it's in the dash as you can see.
@@zlord1199 he knows, but he said that he rather do an engine swap. So he prefers do a engine swap over this job.
Do you know what causes the evaporator to go bad? Bad design, overheating?
Good job guys.. i was wondering if this can be done without removing the center console what do you think?
No I tried. Because the center console is like a scoop

It's hard to say how long it took because we'd work on it after work for about 5ish hours a day or so for about a week
How did you diagnose the evaporator? Thankyou
What are your symptoms? Im getting a hissing sound from the front vents and losing ac.
Great video by the way
That's very well a symptom

Can you do a 2nd Gen Lexus IS350!! Expansion valve and or evaporator. What was the down time on this 535i job?
What year was the 535i you replacing the evaporator on? I’m replacing mine on the 2012 535I . The new evaporator part number you purchased will it fit my car?
This was done on a 2013. I believe it should fit

Tip for yall stuck on the heater core. Once you get the tabs off the hoses, use needle nose angled pliers to rotate them and break the seal

dude same here. i have a 2018 530i and same freaking issue. $5000 to get it fixed…

unfortunately I have to change the evaporator so I was wondering how many hours you did the whole operation.

what made you think it was evap?
If you just wanna change out the evaporator sensor do you have to do all this?
Depends where that sensor is located I guess.
Hello, is it same for BMW F10 LCI 525d???
I have no clue. The diesel engines have different set ups, so i"m not sure
Have you ever had to replace an AC Discharge Hose on a BMW?
Nope, not yet
Is it really a common issue though? If so, how often does it need to be replaced?
Apparently it's becoming a common issue because of maybe the design of the part? Who knows but BMW needs to make these a recall haha
Fuck that, I'm selling my f10 lol
Too bad these guys arent replying to everyone's questions! They put a video up and forget about it. I had a question but not worth asking now
Sorry there are so many comments here and not every single one gets notified. Whats your question?
There should be a class action suit against BMW for putting crappy evaporator cores in these cars, none of which last more than 4-5 years
Wait: HOW COMMON IS THIS?
Hahah fear not, it's common but not THAT common
Extremely common. It’s an epidemic on BMWs but they don’t care. Reason why I will no longer buy BMWs in the future
Just throw the car away atp
We were thinking about it...
👍👍👍👍👍
Iam not gonna go through this 👈😂🤣
This is very hard to do
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuu
Jesus Christ. I think I’m about to do this now 🥲
Good luck captain!
