I also worked at a place (Internet Service Provider) where employees communicated much like this. 5 of us in a room 20 feet long and if you spoke out loud they glared at you. Lights were off and a big screen was illuminated with monitoring stats while they blasted death metal so loud it gave me headaches while I was programming and doing phone support. I should have quit the first day, but I wasted nearly 2 years there.
The scarry thing is, a lot of people in large corporate america use email just like this, to show an illusion of service, of work output, and of political gamesmanship...instead of actually doing some useful work. I had an executive that kept threatening to set strict email usage policies to limit the use of email....He got slain by the vicious email politicos first.
"Dead Like Me", series from 2003. Sadly got cancelled after 29 episodes. But they are currently making a movie, with the same name, that's in post-production. Or perhaps it's finished by now...

This co-worker was one of those cold fish who sat maybe two desks away, but the only way he could be communicated with was through e-mail. Something wrong with people like that. This was also the way a supervisor at GTE directory order warehouse in Irving, TX (forerunner to Verizon), could be communicated with. What a waste of time!

So even though Dead Like Me had decently good ratings, they weren't as high as The Sopranos. So Showtime decided they were going to keep developing and killing shows until they found one they thought was successful enough. I dropped Showtime so I have no idea how popular their shows were after DLM.

Abdulai Bah Yes that is so true. Such people dont deserve to be in authority. Because of my bad experience, I am so reluctant to apply elsewhere, thinking that most supervisors are like this.
