I watched this video hanging upside down from an inversion board. I feel an inch taller! Only one away from 500 subs. The Seinfeld bit had me cracking up. I've never played Final Fantasy Tactics. Just didn't seem like my kinda game. But a similar game with Onimusha characters? Now I'm intrigued. Is it an expensive game? I wanted to comment on something else, but now I forgot what it was.
No, you can find this game for pretty cheap. I found it in box for 30 and that was with barely looking. Feel free to ask again if it pops back up. I never thought to ask if strategy games were your cup of tea! It's pretty good and way easier entry level than most of them!
Oh! I didn't know that! maybe I just never had it happen. though I guess if it's just the main character it kinda makes sense. Same thing happened with FFTA
The game does technically punish you for dying. Keeping your level and exp will give you a lower rank when you do finally finish the stage as exp earned is one of the factors for determining your score, and the lower your ranks the less recipes you can find. The hilarious thing though is that you can actually grind rank by losing over and over if you don't allow your characters to level up in the process because you can kill almost all of the enemies on a map, earn a lot of exp, use lower level characters and fewer characters and then just fail the objective to get a high failure rank and then quickly get all of your characters killed to erase your earned exp(dying will deplete the "next level" bar to 0 from up to 99)to do it all over again. However, my favorite thing about Onimusha Tactics is the fact that you can infinitely acquire permanent stat up items by stealing from and/or killing enemies and then running or dying. Not many SRPGs allow you to get infinite stat up items(especially not in an easy way) and I find those to be my favorite because it means I can customize anyone to be a monster(my Oboro is a tank LOL).
Wow, I certainly didn't know the extent of just how broken some of that could be. This is another reason I love making reviews and such, because I might just learn something too! That's a pretty great exploit, and I'm all here for it!
@@PragmatikReviews On my current file I am grinding my rank to max early so I can unlock all of the recipes and then focus more on stats and souls. I started that playthrough futilely trying to get max rank(complete victory) on the first few stages(it is basically impossible)to get the stealing weapon(shadow blade +3) by chapter 12(when you can first steal stat boosters) by having Onimaru kill the first tutorial genma soldiers with 2 issen attacks(not allowing him to reach level 2 in the prologue and allowing him to be reset to 0 exp on level 1 after he dies in stage 1) , but after I did that and beat stage 1 with only 3 characters at level 2 each I only had the tactics(exp) and margin(level and player character to enemy differential) to barely get a Crushing Victory so I decided to try one more time but with getting all of the herbs(to tank hits while Hanpieta takes pot shots)and using more issens as the finishing blow(guaranteed 48 exp to even high level characters), and that is when I discovered I could simply take the herbs to fill up the characters' inventory and then die and still have those herbs, so after I beat stage 1 with a shitload of herbs I decided to do the same thing with the Musaid's evade secrets(10% drop, which is actually very high for a stat booster(and the 50% herb drop happens at the same time) and that will jump to 20% in later stages) in stage 2 and then I discovered I could get the evade secrets AND get a bad defeat(+1 to your rank when you only need 5 to get the next recipe as I learned from the strategy guide)to make up for the missing rank points I lost after stage 1 and 2, and then I decided that I wanted to grind for power orbs and power secrets(to jack up Hanpieta's attack for sniping in that level) in stage 3 and I found out I could get "defeat"(+2 to your rank)instead of bad defeat, and then in stage 4 I knew I could get "narrow defeat"(+3 rank and the best defeat condition) by getting Magoichi killed instead of Onimaru(the higher the number of allies that survived the more points you get)with one enemy remaining(less enemies left means more points as long as the NPC didn't kill the enemies that are dead) because I knew stage 5 had low level enemies and I wouldn't get a good victory or defeat condition and I decided that I might as well grind stat boosters(2 power orbs and 1 evade secret) while acquiring all of the recipes I had earned at that point(which is not static if you keep getting "bad defeat", "defeat" or "narrow defeat"), and that when I just decided that I would either grind recipes until I get the perfect medicine or at least until I get the shadow blade and no longer worry about being too strong or too high leveled to get good victory conditions. My guess is that the developers did not intend for you to be able to infinitely grind rank and only allow you to gain rank from being defeated to give you something for a hard fought battle and not allow you to be screwed over completely if you grind too much. I actually prefer Onimusha Tactics slightly to Final Fantasy Tactics Advance because of the stat boosters and the art, the only other gba SRPG nearly as broken as Onimusha Tactics is Tactics Ogre The Knight of Lodis(where you can also get infinite stat boosters and they are not that hard to get).
@@PragmatikReviews Glad you have at least tried it. Its surprising to me that many ignore it or treat it like a FFT ripoff. Now I'm just hoping that Octopath Ogre.. i mean Triangle Strategy gets a Steam release in the future. ;)
I used to have this. It was definitely an interesting take on the genre, and I remember replaying the phantom realm a lot to level up my characters.
Yeah definitely a lot of unique ideas, but probably my least favorite of the mainline series. Still not a bad game to play!
And now I see that this says Tactics. whoops. disregard, this game is much higher on my list lol
Oh shit! I just wrote a script for this game! What are the odds this would show up in my recommendations.
We do collectively post a lot of Onimusha content! Looking forward to what you think about this game!
I just bought this for the GBA for £7.50, not a bad price!
Wow that is pretty good! I feel like it's been increasing lately!
Fresh hoodie my friend! I always wondered about Onimusha tactics and it’s good to see a review on it ;)
Thanks friend! Yeah it's definitely a fun one to dive into if you're craving something easy to grind through!
Lol I remember playing onimusha tactics before ff tactics advanced and always wondered why ff tactics copied onimusha hahaha. Great vid! Btw
Haha must of been a revalation when you pieced it together! Thanks for watching! Happy to see more people that played this game!
Nice review I just have 1 question what's Blade Warriors???
Blad Warriors was another spin off that played like a smash clone fighting game. I've got it in my onimonth Playlist if you want to check that out!
@@PragmatikReviews thanks I will! Can't promise I'll like the game though.

@Weston Meyer Haha it can be addictive!
Thanks I am thinking about buying this for wii u.
I didn't even know the Wii U had it. If it's a cheap enough price, I say go for it!
Yay! Glad I could help out again!
Sad that everyone always refers to FFT instead of Tactics Ogre(the superior game).
Ah I played both and I liked them, but I'll always give FFT my vote. But Ogre defintiely needs more love!

@@AndruComedy I still need to play that. I barely got the chance to play a sega when i grew up.
I played Onimusha tactics in the GBA, didn't like but well, I love tactical games, it isn't and bad was a solid game
I feel like that was how I felt too. Definitely not bad, but lacking for what those games usually feature.
has anyone ever told you that you look kinda like shaggy?
Every day of my life lol
