The Quality Award in Japan is called the Deming prize. It was named after Dr W. Edwards Deming who taught the Japanese Statistical Process Control (SPC) in the 1950’s. These quality techniques were pioneered at Bell Labs in the 1940’s. This allowed Japan after the devastation of WW2 to move from low cost producers of cheap products to one of the most technically proficient manufacturing countries is the world. The award was so popular in Japan that it was broadcast on live TV.

    The Three Musicalteers
I doubt that I would be watching the three of you on RUclips had I not inherited my fathers Marantz 2238B and the whole global thing hadn't happened, my attention would have remained focused elsewhere if not for those two events. All that being said, I am really enjoying my mostly vintage budget stereo system. I have two sets of excellent ADS speakers, L570/2 and L780/2. I also have a Technics SL-1500 turntable that doesn't get used much because I mostly listen to CDs played on my SL-PD8 carousel changer with a Schiit MODI+ remote DAC. I'm satisfied with what I have and not chasing 'new & improved', but I do enjoy hearing what the three of you have to say about new and old gear.
Keep it going, and have fun.

for sure when in 76 i told most of my family in the christmas dinner ,"i´m going to buy a sansui complete system , a cousin i have 5 years older than me was almost close to my chair at the table , i said very loud i just bought a pioneer system, just kidding as except my father all were Pioneer Freaks which today i´m happy as i have most of the high-end systems produced by pioneer and either than some chap electric parts they needed nothing else but i notice that on speakers first, and direct sound if the amplifier is good the sound is also very good doesn´t need to be a tube amplifier , when i started to buy more cds i for the first time started to use equalizers i had them in the 70´s and never put them on and were several times better than 80´s or 90´s equalizers my better ones are the technics with several frequencies two lines of them frequencies and a phase linear series two that is a parametric one , other thing i noticed is the tendencie to increase high´s the reason why after noticing that i was using the treble at max position was the sound bellow is very poor in expensive integrated amplifiers after 1980 , when cds apeared i was liking them but i was using a pioneer SX-1980 with some HPM-1100 and i had the first sony cd player and it sounded good with new Lp´s that were released but old ones ,one would notice the non heard guitars mainly but when in 89 i bought a entire new system that i had a 82 Esprit series system with big boxy speakers it started to fail so in 84 the pioneer receiver again, ofered to me by my crazy cousin. In 88 ,i think i bought my first standart cd player a PD-7300 from pioneer it looked nice but when going to buy a cd i was already with it choosen in my mind but i arrived to the musixc store and another new Lp´s were there so instead of buying a cd i used to buy two records as they sounded perfect so till 93 i had only 7 cds but a friend of mine just met was very rich and he would buy every record after cds from every band that was fashion at the time and when he entered my home and asked me what music is now good , do you have anything good and i would tell him ,one time REM, after a couple of days he had all Lp´s from REM including the first E.P. the last was when they changed from IRS to warner records , GREEN ,i had renocking only and i was happy with is buying which i recorded to reels or cassette depending in what i had blank, also i had a cassette recorded maybe in 83 with songs a friend from a litle village had , Dream Syndicate i had "a bullet got my name on it" and "medicine show" ,so either than REM records he bought all till then from Dream syndicate that after listening ,it had songs i liked but not all, and cds i had anythjing i could think of having but in reality bought 7 till 93, so instead of buying a DACV buy a old 70´s amplifier or receiver it will sound a lot better with some nice modern speakers, but anything , don´t have to be peaky

Electronic repair is becoming very scarce ... I'm a hobbiest and I have good friend s who repair electronics however they are two hrs away from me ...most vintage is well made and usually easy to fix however it can become complicated and then you are left spending a ton on repair , travelling, I just had my Nak receiver tuner alignment and my repair bill was $379. Arrrrgg. However the receiver is ideling perfect and sounds awesome

@ Steve and Andrew Robinson (Austin Dude) are very good at reviewing products and I am subscribed to both. However, how many people can actually afford 90% of the products that Steve reviews? Very few and that’s okay- just a different audience. Andrew reviews products that go from beginner to very advanced hifi and does an awesome job of explaining all of the nuances of the products. On the other hand- Randy, Kevin, and Old Guy generally do content on lower cost, hidden gems, and widely available products. I think it would be hilarious to have them all on a show sometime. Randy talking about his newest cheap amplifier for under $300, Steve explaining how his new favorite setup for just shy of $100K will blow away Randy’s setup, Andrew chiming in with his analysis of the sound quality’s of the 2 systems, Old Guy letting everyone know that Harmon Kardon actually invented and owns the Patents to the circuitry that makes the incredible sound, and Kevin asking if we could all just get along and agree that cost doesn’t mean something sounds good. Andrew could close with, The only person who has to like your sound is you- while Randy and Steve are talking in the background about what the definition of “Cheap” is 🤣

He liked me has i used to take there all european brands systems i bought from them when living to germany ,so, dutch ,hum...good ,deutsch ,hum...good ,he became my friend as i also had portable radio cassette player from philips, one day i took there a portable but not movable crown giant boombox and he looked at me with his eyes down but said nothing, he´s sick now not able to work anymore

Replying to the guy about high noise floor...listen to the new stuff if you only listen to 1kHz. Vintage equipment was rated from 20-20kHz, both channels driven at rated output. Now it's just rated at 1kHz. That doesn't tell you anything!

Randy is right about the Fluance RT-82. I bought one a couple weeks ago and it can't be beat for the price. U-Turn and Music Hall might be the only competitors. I'd also add, that if you don't plan to upgrade and go high-end in the future, the RT-81 is a perfectly respectable turntable. There is NO competition for entry level tables versus the RT-81.

the guy from my generation will teach you a thing or two like in the year 1980 all brands decreased their quality and it was like...that thing we expel from our body when sitting in a toilet, so 70´s equipment that i have a entire room filled with it is the best ever made and evolution means cut expensies and increase profit, so....buy old but check if it works, not use sunscreen as the other guy said, but follow is advice ,i only when 47 caught my first sunburn, in a beach i used to go camping since i was 16 ,heaven on earth, i use to think when there, this a lot of years before Linda carlisle sing it ,she wanted to be a punk rocker but the others thought , a barbie in our band? was better for her

warranty , what about sound quality ,i only use old because it sound better even macintosh from the 70´s was several times better not just a litle, turntables they were so much evolved that aren´t comparable with this new ...vinyl readers, in the past we had records and turntables, starting in 72 direct drive after a few years quartz engines, remenber watches , cartridges too, MM almost non heardable more low volume than MC cartridges that sounded perfect the something black S from Ortofon was very expensuive and is there ,maybe one day i have nothing else and i´ll use it even stylus were several times better not just a few hours of use, but one didn´t had to think about it

I grew up buying and selling old hifi gear, and frankly, I feel sorry for the absolute mental cases buying and selling old junk for frankly deranged lunatic mental case lost your medication prices these days.
Even funnier is simply how much of the vintage equipment completely sucks ass yet is waxxed lyrical about by RUclips reviewers who clearly live in some virtual Minecraft world.
As such I have walked away, I will never again own old classics because the costs are an absolute rip off, I want another Rotel RA1412, but those things cost £120 in my day, I will never own a pair of LS3/5a or IMF Proffesional monitors, never own any of the classic oldies I used to pick up for beer money in my day.

I couldn't agree more. I had an SX1980 in the 90's and I couldn't give it away. I got £100 for it in the end. It was considered old junk, and was easily outperfomed by a NAD c370. I cannot believe the prices people are paying for this old gear. I used to pay £20 for Garrard 401's as most people thought they were obsolete, rumbly old crap.
