There's only one character to unlock in this game that exists. It's Gold Mario. To unlock Gold Mario, you have to get first place in every cup in 200cc. If you do so, he'll be yours. For the Gold Standard Kart, you have to get at least a single star ranking in all Mirror Cups. For the Gold Tires, you have to beat all the Nintendo staff ghost on all 48 courses. And Finally we have the Gold Glider. This gold kart part is the most time consuming part to unlock in this game, because you have to collect a whopping 5,000 coins. For the rest of the vehicle parts, you just need to collect a boatload of coins while racing or battling. But the vehicle part that you unlock is random, just like Mario Kart 7. Last but certainly not least, we have the last 2 unlockables: The new title screen, and the final credit sequence. And to unlock the new title screen + final credit sequence, you have to do the usual like in many other Mario Kart games, which is finish all engine classes with gold trophies and star rankings on all cups.
As cool as the character roster is in the game. The characters of Pink Gold Peach and the Animal Crossing cast here really really bother me and I wish they instead included Diddy Kong,Funky Kong,Birdo & either Paratroopa or Petey Piranha. The other inclusions such as Link,Tanooki Mario,Cat Peach,The Inklings,and even Dry Bones,Dry Bowser,King Boo & Bowser Jr. I appreciate and can go with.

As for the 5th row some people really like the koopalings like me and lemmy or me and ludwig are the perfect pair. As for the last one its a good idea to add different games in so other people can find entertainment in, like my friend only uses the inkling pair because that was the only game he got into.
