I’m so glad my Mom didn’t allow me to use social media until I was 16 after she saw that I was mature enough to know internet safety. I still wasn’t allowed to do anything I wanted on there. At the time I hated it but now I appreciate it.

I have 16 year old twins and I do random phone checks. They are on Snapchat and we talk about this a lot. I work with young people and will use this story to continue to stress how dangerous this is. If she has her phone hopefully they can track it.

I will say this as a parent to a child under 10 and who has 20 plus years in the IT field it is a very difficult task to safeguard and lock down technology this day and age. Not impossible but difficult and it takes like others have mentioned an invasive mindset to maintain a safe online presence for your child. From parental controls for apps, video games, school issued smart books and tablets, hell even your smart tv. A person needs all hands on deck to navigate access, and just like they say abstinence is the best contraception no access is sometimes the best protection from online predators.

I have 16 year old twins and I do random phone checks. They are on Snapchat and we talk about this a lot. I work with young people and will use this story to continue to stress how dangerous this is. If she has her phone hopefully they can track it.

I will say this as a parent to a child under 10 and who has 20 plus years in the IT field it is a very difficult task to safeguard and lock down technology this day and age. Not impossible but difficult and it takes like others have mentioned an invasive mindset to maintain a safe online presence for your child. From parental controls for apps, video games, school issued smart books and tablets, hell even your smart tv. A person needs all hands on deck to navigate access, and just like they say abstinence is the best contraception no access is sometimes the best protection from online predators.

Stop blaming the parents!!! 12 year olds and ages around that know how to get past your online restrictions. Kids , teens and tweens do these kinds of things, always have . BUT nowadays acting out could very likely cost you your life. I hope she is found alive and well. Can’t imagine the fear and heart ache the parents are going thru. If something happens to her it won’t be anyone’s fault but the predator who lured her out in the first place. Jocelyn Nungaray was the exact same age and a good kid who did what kids do.. this baby is no different.
They’ve got to remove all social media from their children phones and threaten that they won’t have a phone if it’s placed back on. There is no such thing as privacy with my 12 year old. I have her phone password and she is not able to change it. She knows if I ever randomly go through her phone and I’m not able to access it she want have a phone. She knows if randomly go through her phone and social media is on there she won’t have a phone. My daughter knows I don’t play when it comes to that type of stuff so she doesn’t even try it. My daughter is not allowed to have any social media on her phone. No RUclips, no Facebook, No instragram, No TikTok NOTHING. She even went to her grown older sisters about it and they told her “Mom knows what’s best for you. She did us the same way to protect us like she’s trying to protect you trust mom”. Parents have to stop allowing their kids to tell them what other kids have they need to have NO YOU DONT.

In another news story I heard that the man that she was found with was a neighbor not someone she met online.
Isn’t this the second girl within days that met someone online. They just had a vigil for the other young lady. This is heartbreaking but I blame the parents.
