Ally gets higher fps at 15w then Claw does at 40w 💀
Intel is not power efficient that's why. That's not something that will really change with updates either.
The claw is such a disappointment
An $800 disappointment lmao
Hopefully the core 5 ultra drops in price to 300 dollars, that's the only price im willing to pay for that crap.
A fat disappointment, I kind of had my doubts when there was zero coverage from major outlets closer to launch.
The fact that it has an Intel GPU made me very nervous since the Intel Arc gpus are still way behind software development and working well in all games. I was expecting similar issues with this intel gpu on the claw, and here we are. The fact that it has a bigger battery doesn't make much difference when you have to use much more power to get lesser performance
@@mclovinthewalrus2375Even if its $300 its full of stutters because Intel chips eat plenty of ram and 16gb is a bottleneck. Intel chips only suitable for 32gb ram system.
Great video you are one of the first RUclipsrs to do some benchmarks versus the Rog Ally and put some charts up so many props to you!
True. I don’t know why other RUclipsrs keep wasting times.
I wait for this compare.. Thx for this video..
Thanks for showing us some benchmarks!
One of the reasons the 1% lows are so bad is the ram usage is using more than the handheld has. Idle ram usage is nearly double the ally. We need a way to manually set vram and also msi needs to debloat the os and combine and or remove some services. I did all this manually and brought the numbers up. There’s no update though that will fix the really bad feeling buttons. It’s still the msi flaw 😂
msi claw? more like msi flaw hehehe
That's interesting, do you mind posting some tips or pointers for how you went about debloating and what non-essentials you removed?
я не розуміюся в цьому що мені краще купити
Thanks for the comparison
Great video thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
Ohh well guess im waiting for the Ally 2.. really wanted the claw to be good to ..
Very patient on MSI getting updates to improve perfomance, but the bumpers and D pad needs a rework. Hopefully a 3rd party can release a mod for it. Think I'll return it to bestbuy.
My experience with the ally has almost made me back out at times but handhelds just aren't there yet. Lately my r8 model ally has been working great tho and is the best experience I am getting in my hand for now. Very glad I got one but glad I didn't sell my Xbox or my shield TV when I got it.
great video Hubwood.
Hi, for the ally what’s your vram setting? Auto or 6gb? Thank you
5gb
The other chip to look forward to is Qualcomm laptop series chip. They may actually perform very efficient too because of the experience with snapdragon chip.
The qualcom chip runs worse than the 7840u looking at the results from boredatwork.
On a very different topic, have you by any chance tried to use the Claw in "desktop mode" for some more demanding applications like video editing and see how it compares to the Ally for that job?
Not yet!
@@Hubwood ok thanks.
Msi what are you doing?
We're trying to make money that's what we're doing!!!!We're trying to cash in on this handheld craze.
What do you expect from Intel Gpu, miracles? the intel gpu game compatibility is really bad compared to amd gpu, but im not surprised because amd has a leadership and have way more experience compared to intel in terms of gpu, and games are way more compatible compared to intel gpu
Question: is FSR or XeSS enabled on the Claw during these tests where it says FSR enabled? Or is it then only enabled on the ROG Ally and not on the Claw?
2:27 both FSR and XeSS enabled.
It's as you predicted and some of those 1% lows are kinda disappointing. I guess it's good MSI put a larger battery, because your gonna need to all the performance you can get to avoid stuttering.
Also does the Core Ultra 7 variant have the same 'issue' from the MSI Claw review you did? Thanks for all those benchmarks!
10:10 Also, do you mean FSR turned on?
No I meant that because I was testing it with FSR off using lower resolutions (Or 1080p and FSR turned ON) could help.
Also, yes, it does have the same button issue indeed.
@@Hubwood Ah, gotcha!
You should redo this now that Intel is updating its drivers. This is Intels 1st gen apu vs 4th gen for AMD, so it makes sense it might take a little time for the drivers to get better. The intel hardware is objectively more powerful than the AMD though so it’s a matter of time until it matches/surpasses in performance
Probably the worst handheld launch ever
The Ally's launch was pretty terrible too. Remember the card readers burning micro SD cards to death? Lots of other stuff, too.
Lenovo was pretty bad as well. They still have things broken that the Ally never had broken.
Also noted the Steam Deck launch was probably one of the worst. Combined with proton not being as mature as it is now, Steam OS being super buggy it wasn’t the best launch. Also the silicon shortage made it so that most people couldn’t get it within the first 6 months to year
@LawlessNate yeah but the performance was decent
@crestofhonor2349 Yeah but no where near as bad as the ally. I see stuff about the allys broken squeaky triggers, burning micro sd cards and crappy joysticks failing. You don't really hear any of those issues with legion go. The only issues the legion has is some people had wobbly controllers which not that many people had issues with.
BRO's effort 👍👍
Bro can you test battlefield2042 on msi claw but go to multiplayer
Sizce hangisini almalıyım asus rog ally z1 extreme. Msi claw türkiyede fiyat olarak rog ally 32 bin msi 42 bin tl
Defenitely the ally
Finally someone did this! But to be fair claw needs another year of software updates to the comparison to be fair
A year of updates is too much time. The ally and legion go got to where they both are in under 6 months and they're still getting updated every month so it pretty much seems the claw will never match the ally or legion go
I agree, either release a good product, or be prepared no one will buy it. But then steamdeck would not be here =) With rog ally you are right saying it took 6 months rather then a year, but from time to time they still keep ruining things with a new faulty bios or late video driver update... But with the claw let's see what happens with it within the next 6 months, I bet it would get much more appealing and smooth experience. Not that it would in any way persuade me to buy it though@@kdubspencer3390
@@kdubspencer3390they’re using 4th gen AMD hardware. The Intel chips MSI is using are 1st gen
Do native no FSR for these kinds of test.
I had planned it, msi should not have chosen Intel and on top of that another one that falls on 16 GB of ram. These machines should have either 24 or 34 GB of ram.
You should compared it with same Wattage, LOW WATT : 20watt on MSI Claw equals to 20watt on ROG Ally, 30watt on MSI Claw equal to 30 watt ROG Ally..that should be more fair
Yeah the thing is, the 20w is the Claws Super battery mode equivalent. And the 40 watt its performance setting. According to its performance modes.
Most people will use these. Especially for saving battery when using the handheld unplugged. Which is the same for the 15W mode in the Ally.
When we compare laptop or desktop GPUs we don't put them to the same wattage as well... That's not necessarily their natural behaviour....
The 16GB of system ram is most likely one of the main cause of the poor 1% lows. I believe Intel ARC's memory compression is not as good as Nvidia and AMD.
Intel needs to seriously improve its low wattage performance. It doesn’t really matter if they have the biggest battery if performance is only acceptable at 25w+. This is why I love the steam deck as it performs so well at lower wattages. ROG Ally is also great because while it doesn’t do as well as the deck at 11w and under it does outperform it at 13w+ meaning that it still has some advantages
They've stucked on 10mm . This prevents power efficiency developments probably.
@@Dr.Mmmmmm The Intel Core Ultra chips aren't on 10nm. They're on 7nm, which is still behind AMD
@@crestofhonor2349 ah still worse :/
Whose idea it was releasing this machine which is behind in most aspects and for higher $$??
The Z1 extreme is still the best handheld gaming chip to this day
It's the fastest at higher wattages for sure. However, I still think the steam decks custom cpu is the best overall, especially on a battery limited device, due to its efficiency.
Asus ROG is the KING of the Gaming World!!!❤
senior enough to memory CLAW is just the reborn of UMPC ASUS & Samsung used to build up based on Core M maybe 10 years ago, I still have the ASUS sku in somewhere of my warehouse, which why I choose Steam Deck this time without any hesitate.
but is it valid to compare a laptop when we know how the Ally started? The Ally started very low and thanks to the updates it improved a lot. I am confident that the Claw will stop talking about has a lot of potential.
A laptop? What do you mean?
The ally had issues and was improved, but not that much. It was better from the start.
Let alone the legion go which was already very fast on release (while having other issues to be fair)
@@Hubwood sorry bro Msi Claw*
I'm with you on one point. but nothing I would wait a little
Ally is very mature vs msi claw..... Let's just wait and see how this looks in 3-6 months.
Xess deep learning upscaling has the potential to be a game changer in handhelds if the software that is holding the claw back is sorted out.
The Ally had lower performance at launch, but even then, it was still outperforming what the claw is offering.
Excactly.
They chose intel for an igpu based gaming console. What were they thinking lol
i wanna buy the MSI Claw so baddd, hopefully it gets better on a near future with a shit ton of updates just like the ROG Ally did
And a heavy price drop....
Unlikely. Even little things like their premium gaming controller has serious annoying software bug is not fixed after many years. They sort of just ignore because with their big brand, people will just buy like this claw
@@weeyenseng so ROG ally and steam deck are still better options?
@@victorcasas8104 rog ally is better. It is a window os which mean it is a computer. You can install cracked games for offline play. Rog has VRR screen which do low frame insertion for smoother game at low fps. Amd has Rsr or rsi that work for all games not like dlss/fsr work for specified games. Battery issue can easily overcome using 65w output power bank. The wrist still get pain after long hours gaming but imagine u are holding legion go.
All software can do isn’t gonna help that much. The Intel Chips available in the Claw are on the market since a few months and you can find various Laptops and mini pc with em and as such really clean benchmarks.
While Intel can and does improve the performance of the ARC GPU‘s the real problem here is the high amount of cpu cores and threads and the frequency they can clock at. If you add that the current Intel cores need more power than a current amd core you see that the claw can’t improve much since the cpu part consumes so much power.
Speaking of that the i5 version should perform better.
Oof, the gap is a bit bigger than I though. I commented that Intel may have had hope for next generation on your last video, but maybe we are still 2 or 3 generations away from a gap closer 🤣
The gap will shrink with updates. But I guess in most cases it won't beat the RX780m in the Z1 Extreme
There price is unbelievably high
No wonder msi blocks everyone to do a early fps comparison test
Intel is pathetic. They've been in the graphics game for almost 30 years and they still suck at making good drivers.
Yeah, a lot of people like to say "Oh, but they have only been doing graphics for a few years, they are catching up so fast!" But no, they've been doing APUs and graphics drivers since the dawn of time, they just have always sucked at it.
@@TruziTE Yep exactly, one thing they don't suck in is transcoding, the quicksync is unmatched for some reason. But that's about the only thing they're good at, not really important for a handheld.
How can MSI get away with this? Don’t they QA the device before release?
They won't sell alot of claws I guess
The Rog Ally was a disappointment when it first came out also. I have an ally, so I know for sure that updates can make a huge difference. I think the claw could have a similar story.
Xes, true. BUT Intels isn't famous for fixing their mobile GPU Drivers... we'll see. Let's hope for the best ;)
I was really hoping the initial benchmarks of meteor lake that with laptops that have lighting fast ram meant that every one of these CPUs would ship with lighting fast ram but with the claw, its clear Intel just wanted the initial reviews to be better than reality to fool us. AMD is missing their performance targets with RDNA 3 and Intel still can't match them :/. Can you imagine the state of this CPU had AMD didn't miss their performance targets? I really wished this was good enough to put pressure on AMD. Then we would have seen them put 3D cache on these APUs to give us a big leap in APU performance with next gen chips but, now its gonna 20% again because its good enough to beat Intel and they don't need to try any harder as Nvidia doesn't make integrated GPUs. If intel doesn't turn things around with Battlemage, then AMD is just gonna take the handheld gaming market.
They already took it.
If intel isnt quick enough with the driver updates to improve performance..the next MSI will be powered by AMD instead.
Arc igpus will be dead in the water as far as demand goes
Nah they'll be in a lot of mobile chips and office laptops...
@@Hubwood Thats true.Should have been more specific. My bad.The windows handheld markets,i mean. There wont be demand if AMD is clearly better.
How is the claw so bad?
Because the hardware is very bad. They should have took the same z1 extreme chip like the ally but with an oled screen.
So much hate over this wonderful device that just needs the correct setting to be set after you update the system, in this video I see the example of the benchmark for the AMD Rog Ally but I dont see any images showing that bad performance and the setting for the XeSS enabled.
Nah. "Correct" settings aren't the issue here. I tried all games with Chess when available. Doesnt help. Same as with FSR.
can't wait for Ally2
If you look at synthetic scores the intel chip is quite a bit more powerful than the z1 which means we are seeing driver issues and one it’s ironed out we should see the intel chip beating the z1 in most games I don’t know why anyone is surprised it’s like this they staggered the launch for a reason and this is exactly what happened when the z1 launched the steam deck was beating it which is definitely not the case anymore
Yeap, ok, just 2x fps with driver updates. Sounds like a doable thing. Maybe after one year it will be at least compatible with ally1. But there already will be ally2
Asus win performance. Battery msi win. Performance important gaming 👍
I love AMD iGPU!! ⭐⭐⭐
MSI is a fool to choose intel.
Hey intel gave us a discount!!!
Pretty much " i ll give u 200 dollars by unit sell if u put it for free in our copy of rog Ally bro!" Fair enought !
More like the MSI Paw or Flaw
Rog ally is still a flagship ❤
super expensive, Intel frying everything and you can't easily upgrade... MSI what a fail.. I really hope the other companies don't follow this
Thats MSI FLAW 💀
MSI Claw costs 800 euros and the Rog Ally Z1 extreme 650 euros. For price by performance we have already a winner.
from CLAW to CLOWN
You guys need to wait for the updates for the MSI Claw before jumping to conclusions .
i preorder msi claw even i hv rog ally already, what i like about Intel is ,they always improve their chips software times to times, plus this is their 1st handheld machine,so we expect more bug fix and performance update soon
Amd is leader in apu
Less perfomance and more expensive. Nice marketing team there at MSI, should have been fired for the one to set the price. This performs worse than a steam deck.
Because the Intel processor must support the graphics card, otherwise the performance will be very lowets 😅
The difference with Amd without a graphics card they can excel in terms of performance
with that price just buy ally, legion go msi is suck battery on claw is suck.despite huge battery
And the Intel Graphics stills shit near amd, as aways
Claw is the definition of dead on arrival. Rog ally 1% lows are close or even higher than the average fps of the claw in cyberpunk 2077
Yeah... It's especially devastating in CP2077. Pretty sure THAT is a real driver issue.
Quite ingenious to release a gaming device relying on an Intel iGPU.
No wait, not ingenious, the word I meant was LOL.
Well, at least Intel is known to improve their GPU drivers and support with optimization and updates for years to comhahahahahahahahahahaha
Bless you MSI for trying.
nice try, intel/pat
This thing will probably get blown away by the Nintendo Switch. 😂
fail like nintendo virtual boy! LOL
MSI already folded the Bag, how are they gonna release this, they are deifntely gonna have terrible sales
Intel 😂😂😂
Claw is such a clown 🤡
claw is really shit
What a piece of junk the MSI claw is, they aren't even many review videos
Steam deck is better
