If that is a 1x8 why is the center less than 3". Looks like it's a 1x6!

Dumb question - do the circles serve a purpose? Or are they more decorative? It looks like the slots are what's actually holding the hats.

It’s a 1x6 🥴 And need backer board to avoid blow out on the forstner cuts. Better on drill press if you have one.

Just built it and confirmed its not a 1x8, its a 1x6. A 1x8 wont work
