The difference between the Gen3 and the Gen3S is the density and stiffness of the edge foam. No wonder Chris couldn't see anything different. The foam used to attach the honeycomb core to the frame provides dampening (like car shock absorbers) to mute the trampoline effect. The Gen3 used soft, spring-like foam the let the core float which allowed a large trampoline effect. The Gen3S uses stiffer edge foam and that's reflected in the lower power in relationship to the Gen3. Remember how Chris's high speed photography showing the opposite face bending outward. That's the core "floating" allowing a large trampoline effect on the Gen3 paddles. My guess is that what core Chris calls core crushing is really the edge foam completely breaking away from the frame allowing the core to float freely providing no dampening and extreme power.
Could you guys give a layman’s breakdown of restrictions one would have if they bought the Joola MOD paddle vs the 3s? You mentioned the 3s is only allowed in certain events. Are the MODs legal in all events? Thanks!
Chris you were spot on with your comment on your follow through on your backhand dink. Much like tennis, your follow through will give you your control -- and a cut off follow through (thinking you're exerting less power), contrary to what it seems, comes with much less control than following all the way through
Glad I waited to get the Reload. With your code it’s like getting 5 paddles for $200… gave in and got the Grey CRBN Pro Team Tour Bag 2.0 for $98 👍 Super sick bag! Thanks guys!
Thank you to all the brands. I really enjoyed this podcast. I had to rewind the part in your podcast when you said that Joola told you that they intentionally core crushed their paddles (Gen 3, Mods and etc.) coming from their factories. Also, Joola tested and knew that core crushed paddles (depending how much they were core crushed) would pass the deflection test. This is the first time that any company making thermoformed paddles (Gen 2 or Gen 3) have admitted to this. I made it to the kitchen. I also need to work on slowing my arm swing and completing my follow through too. Work in progress. Thank you Chris and Aizec.
Hi! I tried using the code for paddletek, are the cover and hat supposed to be automatically added to cart or will they just ship with them when I checkout with the code? Thank you!

This is one of the reasons I love pickleball! I always feel like the brands, like the people that you meet playing, are some of the best around and always willing to give back
I found them assuming Collin would lose the fight funny. I did boxing as a kid, then started wrestling and Jiu Jitsu during high school. I have learned that you can’t tell a person’s fighting skills just by looking at them.
Na I like collin but the reach and size advantage alshon has plus the overall athleticism is probably too big a gap for collin to cross. Also alshon seems like the type to not know how to fight but also gave been in a few
Chris, I find it crazy that your Perseus 3S 16 measured at a 119 SW. Mine measured at 125 on my Briffidi. That seems like a huge variance from paddle to paddle.
Any idea what Joola would replace a Gen 3 with if it were core crushed? They supposedly extended the warranty for those that kept them. I have a Hyperion and Perseus.
Wait so… are the Mods core crushed out of the box? I somehow still don’t understand exactly where the mod stands… it has more power than the 3S but maybe less than the ripple?
Thanks for your podcasts and congratulations on episode 100. I grabbed a j2k with this code and am so excited - thanks to all the brands for sponsoring and giving codes!
Thanks for organizing this giveaway. While I didn't win I was able to take advantage of the flash sale and pick up a 11Six24 Monarch All Court paddle and some Luqi overgrips. 👍🏽
Aizec’s hat… Love you guys and my buddies and I have worn Melin for a while now, but I can’t find anything nice to say about that hat. We’ll see if it grows on me in these next 45 min
So is this what a gen 3 is now (maybe except for the Gearbox) - an intentionally crushed paddle from the factory without being crackly yet? It makes sense if that is why most of them get more and more powerful quickly with break-in. Seems like the fix for the paddle requirements for usap or upaa is to require that cores not be crushed, and have random destructive testing on new paddles.
I hope that was a preproduction sample of the ripple you played with and not something that’s gonna be typical cause it would certainly be a shame that such a good paddle would degrade like that
I’m honestly surprised there’s not a lawsuit against joola on this intentional core crushing. Selling a paddle they designed with an intentionally shortened lifespan without informing their customers, and then charging them $300 for it? Sounds very misleading imo
Can someone recommend the best advanced beginner paddle in regards to the brands available on this flash sale? My initial thoughts are a 11six24 Monarch Jellybean, Vatic Prism Flash or the Neonic Flare (if still in stock). Maybe a Ronbus? Looking for something with a lot of forgiveness for a beginner and is light for quick hands at the kitchen. I can usually generate my own power. I have a couple elongated paddles, but have found them to be too slow for me at the kitchen until I get better, then I may use them more.
I'm an advanced beginner player. I recently bought the new Paddletek ALW-C 14.3 mm paddle, and I love it. Paddletek has a demo program if you're interested. They are located in Michigan.
The Vatic Prism Flash 16mm will be the softest most control orientated paddle while the 11Six24 Monarch Jellybean 16mm will has just a touch more pop & power due to the fiberglass layer in the face sheet. I've played both paddles and either would be an excellent choice for under $100! I know nothing about the Neonic, but would highly recommend the PIKKL Hurricane Pro 16 as one of the softest playing Gen 2 type paddles on the market. It is a reset machine with ample power but it works great for softer shots.
The Joola "issue"... Agree completely playing against them isn't that big of deal any more, but why would anyone want to play with them these days. With their admittedly bad quality control, poor customer service history, regulatory issues, high price point, etc etc etc. I find myself just unhappy with Joola, what they are doing to pickleball. I fully admit to silently judging everyone who plays with a "gen anything above a MOD-TA". Reputation is broken and you don't get it back by marrying the mistress (Joola/UPA-A).
Kinda feels like Joola purposely made the MOD to not last long so we just keep purchasing new ones, I am a 5.3 rated player and fully crushed my MOD in exactly 30 days from purchase, I was able to fully squeeze the face of the paddle, kinda sucks that these things don't last
So why are they charging unreasonable amounts of money if there’s such a large chance it’s already crushed or going to crush in the near future? Crazy to charge that much money for a paddle that’s just gonna lose grit in months time or break
Hey Chris! Thanks for the episode. I know this is personal preference, but I’m super big on trying to avoid spoilers. I like watching the games without knowing how it’s going to end. In the past you’ve been pretty good about letting us know when you’re about to talk about game results. Which you technically did this time as well but when I tried to skip that section the TITLE of the next segment was a SPOILER! Haha. If it’s not too much work and you think about it, I would really appreciate not having spoilers in the segment titles.
haha sorry!! Normally I'm better about that...with all the giveaway emails I've been going through today I rushed through getting the pod up. Noted for next time.

Chris, I hope this doesn't come off as someone giving pickleball advice to another when playing. lolol. If you can move your key light on the opposite side of your faces (if you have 2), your brothers key light would be your hair light, and vice versa. This way, you would be shooting into the shadow side of your face, creating more depth, and a more pleasing image, and one light does 2 jobs. You will still want to add a frontal light to lift the shadow side (now the side directly facing the camera), but it wouldn't need to be a powerful light by any means. I've been creating podcasts for John Deere and many others, and that lighting setup is our go to. Depending on what your ceiling looks like in the studio, you can either get scissor clips for a drop ceiling, or a varipole to rig it overhead if not.
Haha no worries Robert! Thats actually how we want to light it (exactly how you described). But unfortunately we are severeellllyyyy limited by low ceilings in the studio. There’s not a super feasible way to have the key light coming from the opposite end. Maybe if we used some flex panels right on the ceiling, but then we’d have some fun cable management to deal with.
