Oh yeah, thanks for the compliment. It was one of the cooler things I've seen while flying. The two planes stayed together like that for about half an hour. The one above was perhaps a 767 on its way to Alaska, though I could be very wrong about that. It stayed on the left for a long time, then went over top of us, was out of sight for a while, and then came back to the left side. Really cool to see. I think it's 2000feet of separation.
This was taken May 2004. Yes, that's a 747-200, and some airlines are indeed still using them. This video was taken onboard a Japan Airlines flight from Vancouver to Narita.
