There is a reason why when I was young I wanted to get a good live action of a anime, but never got it, because it is hard to make, and studios don't like to take risks. This movie would have made sense if they should take the leap and really make a "grounded" movie based on the original, take the example of The trilogy of batman. But, sadly the "Christopher nolans" doesn't abound.
I like live action, I like animation, I just don't like cgi adaption of an already existing animated movie/series. It's just never really works. Just make a new story in the same universe. You have the same fanbase and financial success potential. Even better, you can get away with changing details with getting backlash. Basically, make movies because it's fun instead of for money.
The biggest shame about this is I probably would have been more ok with it if they actually went all the way and made the dragons realistic too but nope they had to take the cheaper route.
A live action spinoff or inspired movie would’ve been cool but a direct remake is horrible. I feel like my feelings connected to the animated series is soured
Why do they make money, well they are safe Family movie that are not bad, maybe not good but not bad. The average American family has 1.94 children so that would be about 4.94 movie ticket that are sold.
It's just like modern video game remakes. Best case: it's just like the old game, but a bit prettier. Worst case: it's uglier and plays worse than the original. Average case: It's not as soulful (more generic art direction) and has some elements that make the gameplay more standardized (less unique/good). They hardly ever seem to be worth it.

Live action Shrek?
Seriously. Have they learned nothing from the current dumpster fire that is Disney?

Almost like that Conker remake without the censorship, except it had a couple of good things
This is all due to late stage Capitalism.
